Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring - Trailer Connectors - PK11-729 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at a solid seven pin connector for the vehicle side. It simply adds or replaces a solid seven pin connector to the vehicle. It provides the connection point for connecting your trailer's wiring to your vehicle's electrical system. It's made from a durable metal construction, has nice protective finishing on it to keep it safe from rust and corrosion. When it comes to the mount hole design, it has one here at the top, and then it has one here on the side and another one on this side. So it's a three hole mount installation.

Mounting hardware not included. The mount holes side to side right here are separated on center by about three inches. And then from the center of this hole going down to the center of either one of these holes is two and 5/8 inches. The cap right here, the lid is spring loaded so that's fully open, and it closes as soon as you let go of it, so it's a spring loaded design.Does a great job of keeping unwanted items away from the connection points, like dirt, moisture, and grime. Here on the back side is where you have the connection points or the terminals for your wiring on the vehicle.

And so basically, each one is labeled by, so like right here on this terminal, it says BLK so that would be black. This one right here is white. You know what you need to do is correlate those with the chart in the instructions that are included, and make sure that you get your wires connected to the appropriate locations on this connector. But these back here, your terminals and all the screws needed to make the connections are included with this connector. That's going to do it for today's look at the solid seven pin connector for the vehicle side.

  • Pollak Solid 7-Pin Vehicle End Connector for Tailgate Mounted Trailer Connection
The Solid 7-Pin 3-Hole Connector - Vehicle Side # PK11-729 is a great option to mount in the side of your truck bed where there is more room or in the tailgate like you stated. It is a strong wiring harness casing that will hold up with your off-road driving. You don't need to add any additional grounding, wiring, etc. if you are replacing your previous trailer connector. If you have not already run the power wires, then I recommend using the # 5506 which comes with the circuit breakers...

  • Availability of Pollak 7-Pole Round Pin Trailer Connector for Vehicle End
For a vehicle end 7-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Connector, you can use the Pollak # PK11720. This connector has a 2-hole mount. For a 3-hole mount, you can use # PK11-729.

  • Difference Between Solid and Split Round Pin 7-Way Connectors
I spoke with my contact at Pollak regarding the difference between a solid pin 7-Way round connector like # PK11720 and a split pin round connector like the 11-721 that you mentioned (which we don't have available). He said that the difference really comes down to how the pins make contact with the vehicle side connector but in reality there isn't an advantage with the split pin style. He said that the "old school" way of thinking was that with a split pin design a user could potentially...

  • Does 7-Pin 3-Hole Connector Have Rear Cover
We do have a way to protect this connector, though there is not a rear cover for the Solid 7-Pin 3-Hole Connector - Vehicle Side # PK11-729. Instead, what I recommend doing for protection is simply applying some Liquid Electrical Tape # SWC50122. This will allow a good seal at the rear of the connector to protect it from damage and corrosion.

  • How To Run Large Gauge Wire Between Truck and Trailer
The only option we can offer to run a large gauge wire between the trailer and tow vehicle is with the Pollak Single-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Socket part # PK11851 and the Pollak Single-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector part # PK11852. The standard 7-way terminals will only accept wires up to 10 gauge on all but the ground circuit.

  • Replacement 7-Way Round Pin Connector for a STEELBRO Side Loader
We may have a 7-Way round pin connector for your Steelbro side loader unless it has the same functions as a semi-truck/trailer 7-Way. If that is the case we will not have a replacement. But for a 7-Way round pin vehicle side we have # PK11720 or # PK11-729. And for a trailer side we have # PK11700 or # PK11702. I have linked our help article on trailer wiring that shows how the various connector types are pinned out.
