The yellow wire coating is cracking and flaking off.

In short. Terrible. I ordered a different harness previously and the wiring internally gave out and my trailer lights wouldn’t work. I called etrailer to return. It was a week or two over a year since purchased and they wouldn’t return it. I told him it seems like poor quality. He suggested this one and said the wiring and internally are high quality. Second outing I was hooking up my lights and the yellow coating is cracked and falling off.

by:

Still works great. The light up feature is great for knowing if a lighting problem is the vehicle or trailer.

by:

The adapter works great. Actually, this was the exact replacement my trailer originally had. I tried one other adapter, not same brand and it didn't connect securely, not allowing a good connection.

by:

Just bought a longer ball mount to pull my boat, and needed a longer trailer wire
This should do the job.

by:

I used this for both a boat trailer and my garden trailer. Each trailer has different length cords for lights and this works great to not only reach, but also keep the longer cord from dragging low. Connects to my VW Touareg's output adapter without issue. Stores easily and the glow feature is a plus when hooking things up at night.

by:

Great item, I first had the four pin model which is also great. Had to get 5 pin model for boat trailer that has surge brakes.

This item is extremely well constructed you will not have any issues with it. It is nice that it lights up at night to let you know that is connected correctly.

by:

Outstanding service with numerous updates on status. Excellent company, superior customer service.

by:

Apparently the trailer coiled wire adapters for marine use have a 3 year life span. It is good to know that even with the covid bologna I did receive my coil just before memorial day weekend

by:

With lighted connectors you know you have electricity to the trailer.

by:

Heavy duty, easy to use, unconditionally recommend it. Looks like it will outlast me!

Works as well today after a year as it did out of the box.

by:

Works great. I already had an adapter that did the same thing but needed a bit more cord. Lights up like advertised, super heavy duty. I haven’t used it much but it looks like it will hold up for a long time. Nice to have 5 pins vs most that are 4.

by:

Received the new connector and appears to be HD and good quality. This connector should last ... The coiled conductors should eliminate the excess wire from dragging on the roadway.

by:

super heavy duty this is my second one, the first lasted 9 years on my boat trailer and other flat trailers the ground on the 4 prong end broke so I ordered another.

by:

I use this for my boat trailer and it is nice to know everything is working properly.

by:

Seems to be a nice quality connector...hope it works well for a few years.

by:

A quality product and delivered fast. I would recommend etrailer for all your needs.

by:

Just replaced one that survived 13 years, love the lights at night.

by:

On time, repeat customer... Products exactly what I wanted. Thanks for delivering what you promised.

by:

I like the red indicator that there is a connection after plugging it into the receptacle.

by:

Exactly what I needed, makes it much easier to see that the connection is working. Very fast shipping too!!

by:

Failed 200 miles into first trip, started melting.

You mentioned that it started melting and I wanted to ask you a few follow questions. Do you have still have the harness? Would you be able to send a picture? Would you also be able to send a picture of the back of your motorhome.

Still works great. Stays on my trailer. Never have to worry about trailer light connection from boat trailer to truck.

by:

Exactly what I ordered and came three days early

by:

This adapter is a higher quality unit than I anticipated, it works as stated, and was delivered promptly. I would purchase this again.

by:

Performs as advertised, the elimination is a bonus

  • Is There a Different Sized Plug Version of the Hopkins HM47025?
The simple answer to this is going to be no, because trailer connections adhere to an industry standard in order to ensure compatibility between different manufacturers and for end user convenience. Trailer connector adapters like the current # HM47025 will be the same size as something like the Hopkins # HM47065 -they are all going to have the same dimensions assuming they're the same type of connections (7 flat, 4 or 5 blade, etc.). For these reasons, the 7 way end on the any adapter...

  • Recommended 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch Extension and Wiring for Boat Trailer Behind In-Bed Camper
It sounds like you need about a fairly long extender and there unfortunately is not an extender that isn't also a reducer for your 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver. My recommendation is to use the Curt Hitch Extension and Reducer for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches - 24" to 34" Long # C45048 which has the same capacities as the similar Reese # RP45292 and then use a more cost effective option for your ball mount like the Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ball Mount # C45900. This will give you an adjustable...

  • Connecting a Boat Trailer with a 5-Way and EOH Brakes to 2015 Ram 3500 with 7-Way Trailer Connector
Tthe Hopkins connector, part # HM47025, will connect your 2015 Ram 3500's 7-way to your boat trailer's 5-way but it won't power the EOH brakes. Your truck's brake output pin is the in 5 O'clock position which is standard and the center pin is the reverse light circuit. The Hopkins connector uses that reverse light circuit for the 5th pin that's normally on a boat trailer for its electric reverse lockout. Instead I'd cut the trailer's 5-way off and replace it with a 7-way. Part # HS381-9000...

  • What Is The Difference Between These Flex-Coiled Wire Adapters by Hopkins - # HM47025 And # HM47075
These Hopkins wire adapters, Item # HM47025 and Item # HM47075, have similar functions. Both are heavy-duty, coiled cable with weatherproof jacketing. Both have easy-grip connectors and light up when connected. Both are 3 foot when stretched. Both adapt a 7-Way connector to work with a 4-Way or 5-Way flat connector on a trailer. One difference is that the The Hopkins Endurance Adapter, Item # HM47075, has a 3-year limited warranty. I have attached videos for you to check out.

I do have a solution for you, however you won't be able to run a charge line from the 5th pin on the Hopkins Heavy-Duty Trailer Coiled Wire Adapter # HM47025 that you referenced. The 5-Way on this adapter will plug in just fine to the 4-Way on your toad but the open 5th pin carries the reverse light function and not the 12V power circuit from the 7-Way on your RV. In order to add a charge line to your setup the best solution will be to use the Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit...

We do offer some longer coiled cables that would work for you. Wesbar offers a 7-way to 5-pole coiled adapter, that will also work fine for a 4-pole. For a 3 foot length, use part # HM47025. For an 8 foot length, use part # 787196.

The Hopkins Nite-Glow 7-way to 5-way flat coiled adapter, part # HM47025 will work with either a 4-pole or a 5-pole trailer connector. When looking at the 5-Way end of the Hopkins Coiled Adapter # HM47025 like you described, with the male pin being number 5, the pin functions are as follows: 1. Backup Light Circuit 2. Right Turn/Brake 3. Left Turn/Brake 4. Running/Tail 5. Ground With this in mind it definitely looks like something might be miswired on your setup. The Hopkins Heavy-Duty Trailer Coiled Wire Adapter 7-Way to 5-Way Flat with Nite-Glow # HM47025 actually has 5 wires. This adapter takes a trailer-side 7-way plug and mates it to a 5-pole flat connector. All 5 pins on the 5-pole are connected at the 7-way side but a 12V power feed and trailer brake circuit are NOT supported. Two pins on the 7-way are inactive. • Recommended Way to Re-Wire a Boat Trailer with a 7-Way Plug
The adapter will work but it's more of a short-term solution because of the potential corrosion issues in the future not to mention when you introduce additional connection points problems can arise. I would test the reverse lockout (purple or blue wire) with a circuit tester with the 7-Way center pin. If that works you are good.
