Video Transcript for Hopkins Endurance 7 Way RV and 4 Way Flat Trailer Connector Review

Today we're going to review the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Twist-Mount 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector. Part Number HM40920. This is what it looks like when it's installed. Let's go ahead and cover some of the features. First up we'll go ahead and open it, take a look inside our seven pole connector. This is a very common 7-way RV style connector with the flat blades. This will accommodate seven circuits. If we look on top of the lid here, it has a seal that helps protect the contacts when it's not being used. One neat thing also about the look compared to the OEM one, you notice I can run this all the way up and almost 180 degrees.

Comparing that to a factory one. Doesn't go quite as far. With this one it makes it a lot easier to take our 7 pole connector from our trailer and plug it into place. You'll also notice that this tab right here fits over this part. Let's go ahead and take a look at the 4 pole connector underneath. It has its own protective lid. Rotate it out of the way and this will accommodate your 4 pole connector from your trailer.

Just line up the pins, push it into place. Of course, when you're not using it, the nice cap goes right back into place and covers the contacts. One thing to know about the construction, this is all created from a durable ABS construction and then the cap here is made of a softer, rubber like material. This is a great option compared to the original factory unit that you can replace it from the dealership. With our new endurance connector here you have the best of both worlds. That'll finish it for the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Twist-Mount 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector. Part Number HM40920..

My original equipment had reached its life. This allowed me to get rid of a 4-way to 7-way connector.

by:

It was exactly what it said it was. Perfect replacement.

by:

Easy installation. It took less than five minutes to install and it works great. I installed it on my 2004 Chevy 2500 HD.

by:

Nice upgrade for a 2002 Escalade. It’s just so bulky I cannot fit a locking hitch pin anymore.

by:

Item was a perfect replacement for the one I broke.

by:

Very pleased with etrailer, but product not as sturdy as original equipment.

by:

I bought this to replace the OEM part. Fit in the original bracket no problem. Works great. Especially like the 7 way/4 way connectors. No need for an adapter.

One year later and still works fine!

by:

Nice product. Kind of a sloppy fit for my factory 2005 Avalanche hitch though. The 7 pin connector doesn't pin out correct but the 4 pin does so I'll go with that.

Wasnt a perfect fit, somewhat loose but still hanging in there. I like the dual connectors, eliminates the use of an adapter.

by:

Product worked well. A slight modification to gap. A small amount on file work and connector locked correctly. I am well pleased with product. The plug worked as described and delivery was timely.

Grady

It was easy to install. Was exact fit for my 2006 Duramax. The 2 plug design is just what I needed, no more adapters required from hooking to any of my trailers. Item was delivered on time and without issue thanks to etrailer. Great job folks.

by:

Install was a breeze. I’ve used the 4 pin flat connector and it worked perfectly. No more adaptor for me.

Recently purchased a trailer with 7 pin round connector and trailer brakes. The connector worked perfectly with the truck and trailer without needing any re-wiring

by:

This was a perfect fit. I wish the website would have come up with this as the right one for my Suburban, and have notified them of this.
Went in easy and seems to be a perfect replacement for the broken one. As always, great customer serivice and a good product.

Glenha

9/3/2019

After a year, it still works great. Better than the OEM part, much sturdier and has the 4-flat connector built-in.

by:

Still functions as intended. The 4 way has been convenient because I don't need to carry an adapter anymore.

Mason

6/5/2019

I have used this 7 way and 4 way many times it is durable and will last many years.

by:

I routinely tow a couple of different trailers. One has a 7 way connector, and another has a 4 way connector. I kept misplacing my 7 to 4 converter, so I purchased this as a direct replacement for my Yukon's factory connector. While it's nice to have the 7 way and 4 way there all the time, the plug fits a little bit loose in the factory socket. It should work fine, I just wish it fit in there tighter.

by:

Easy plug and play, could be a little snugger fitting, but not a problem.
Recommend.

Harry

wiring time saver, good quality

by:

This is the wrong wiring conector. Sent 40920 which is a twist lock. The one I need got the lock clips on the side. You just push in and it snaps in. Need dual 7 blade and 4 flat. What do you want me to do?

You mentioned that you needed a dual 4 and 7 adapter that clicks in. I believe the connector that you are looking for is part # HM40975. Which is a replacement that would fit a 2021 GMC Sierra.

by:

This has been the easiest trailer receptacle to install & the best one I have used. It’s nice not having to use a 4 way adapter!

by:

Great product !Fit my 2009 trailblazer perfect. Installed under a minute

by:

This connector was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted an "all in one unit" for my 7-way and flat 4 connections because of the problems associated with using a connector converter. This has worked out great.

by:

Exactly what I need works perfectly for all types of trailer wiring. Perfect plug and play for my 2008 GMC Acadia.

Once you receive the rest of your order, I would love to hear your updated feedback.

by:

It was easy to install and it has worked great!!! One plug for my boat trailer and one for my camper, all in one. Now if I could figure a way to haul both at the same time. :)
I always go with etrailer for any towing type stuff.

by:

I bought this for a base model 09 Silverado. Twists in place by the license plate for a clean look, ease of use, and no more dangling pig tail. I bought this for the 4-pin to use with my boat. I’d recommend this to any and everyone with an 09 Silverado

by:

Exactly what I wanted. Easy installation. Great service from etrailer! Would highly recommend this site!

Hopkins S.

We have to agree with you, Larry. etrailer is a great site with great customer service. Thanks for taking the time to write a review and rate the product.

by:

This is the product GM should have installed... I received this piece and had it installed in 30 seconds.
Twist out and unplug original 7 blade connector, plug in harness and twist in this one... never look for your 7 to 4 adapter again.
Good quality piece with gaskets and hinges that are far more robust than many of the competitors.

by:

A direct replacement for my truck. Only problem i encountered was the spring tang broke will i was test fitting the mount. I plan on purchasing another to put on my wife's Suburban. I'll be extra careful when I install that one.

  • Can Both The 7-Way And The 4-Way On The Hopkins HM40920 Be Used At The Same Time?
It is possible to use both the 7 way and the 4 way plug on the Hopkins Endurance Trailer Connector # HM40920 at the same time. Since both plugs use the same wiring, they will both be active at all times. That being said, using both at the same time could result in over drawing power which could lead to blown fuses, or other problems. We cannot recommend using both plugs at the same time.

  • Recommended Wiring Harness for 7 & 4-way Connector on a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado
It sounds like you are wanting the 7-way and 4-way in the bed of your 2011 Chevy Silverado and just the 7-way at the bumper. For this I recommend the 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Wiring Harness # 41157. To change the plug from just the 7-way to the 7- & 4-way I recommend # HM40920. Alternatively, if you were looking for the bumper 7-way to be a 7- & 4-way then you will want # 74682. I have linked the above mentioned products to this page for your viewing and purchasing convenience.

  • Are All Brands of 7-Ways Equal or Are There Better Options
I wouldn't say any of the 7-way trailer manufacturers that we sell offer a 7-way that is noticeably nicer than the other brands. I've heard people complain about Hopkins brake controllers and other more advanced electronics but I have a Hopkins 7-way/4-way on my Tahoe part # HM40920 and it's been perfectly reliable and works great. This is a twist lock for GM vehicle bumpers. We also have a more standard fit part # HM40950 which fits the standard brackets.

  • Recommended Wiring Harness for an In Bed 7-Way Connector on a 2000 Dodge Ram
To add a 7-Way connector to the bed of your 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 you will need the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness item # HM42137. This harness puts a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck and allows you to keep the one on your bumper. This makes hooking up to your 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer easier and more convenient. I have linked an installation video below. To replace the 7-way on your bumper you're going to want the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install...

  • High Capacity Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD to Replace Factory Hitch
For your 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD we have the Draw Tite part # 41944 which is a Class V confirmed as a fit for your truck once you remove the factory hitch. This will also work with your front Torklift tie down # TLC2205 but you'll need to go with a new rear tie down part # TLC3205. For a 4-way you can install inline with your 7-way we have the part # C55384 which will work great. This 4-way is 36 inches long so you would probably not need an extension.

  • Parts Needed to Add a Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness on a 2016 Buick Enclave
If you are wanting to add a trailer hitch and a wiring harness to your 2016 Buick Enclave I recommend installing the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75528 and then either the T-One # 118270 for a 4-Way or the T-One # 118271 for a 7-Way. If you would like to have both a 4-Way and a 7-Way then install the T-One # 118271 and swap out the connector with the Hopkins # HM40920. Both of these vehicle sockets will distribute light, power and brake signals on the socket pins in the RV standard format, as shown in the linked photo. The only real difference between these two parts is that the Hopkins socket also...

I would be happy to help! The Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Twist-Mount 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Vehicle End # HM40920 would only fit your 2010 Chevrolet Express Van 3500 if it has the factory towing package with a factory 7-way connector. With that said your Van does not use a twist style mount from the factory, and would instead need the # HM40975. In either case, these connectors are just a replacement for the factory 7-way. It plugs into a connector behind your rear bumper. There's also a converter included that needs to be plugged in behind some paneling in the rear cargo area on the driver's side. However, if you install a 7-way harness like part # 118266 and replace the final connector with part # HM40920 you'll have exactly what you're trying to accomplish.
