Video Transcript for All About the 5-Flat Trailer End 48" Harness

The 5 pole flat pincher 00:00:02 that we're using here to ease our installation for the trail wiring is part number 20017. All right, so we're going to convert our trailer with a 5 pole signal here, 5 flat. This is for Victor boat trailers because inaudible 00:00:15 the blue wire, here, which is the signal for reverse for your trailer brake lock out solenoid, so we'll strip off a quarter inch of the blue wire, here, and we'll install it into our buck connector here, that goes to our solenoid for hydraulic brake actuators. It is part number DM11993. We'll crimp it into place. We can hook up the rest of our wires to where they go, based upon our connection, here, and take our old connection, here, and cut off these zip ties to separate our wires so we can access them a little bit easier.

Now, we're going to start with what's our green wire, strip back to about 1/4". We're measuring off where we need to trim back our green wire. Get right about there. We'll cut the excess off of our green wire, strip back about 1/4", install our butt connectors. Now, we'll take the brown wire for our right side and we'll do that one, next. Then, we'll do the same for the other wires.

With all of our electrical connections made now, we can use our heat source, seal our heat shrink butt connectors up. To help tidy up our wires, I'm going to take some electrical tape, here, and wrap around our wires, just so we don't have a lot hanging down in this'll make a nice, clean install. Now that we've done that, we can actually go hook it up to our truck, and go down the lake and enjoy our boat. That completes the installation of the 5 pole flat pinch, part number 20017.

Purchased wiring adapters ,LED lights delivery shipment was very prompt and accurate GREAT SERVICE,,,,,picts of end product

by:

Still working great

by:

Decent 5 way plug. I did not use the blue wire taps, instead I soldered the connections as always solder wire splices that are exposed to the weather as my trailer stays outside. I did add corrugated wire wrap to it to make a cleaner installation.

just fine

Excellent service! Could not find 5-Flat 6 wire harness anywhere local. Ordered it late in the evening and got email when it was sent out that night. Arrived the next day.

by:

Seems to be of good quality. Since this harness has six wires, I'd like to see six of the wire splice taps included, instead of just the four.

  • Converting 4-Way of 2001 Toyota Tundra to 5-Way to Tow Boat Trailer with Surge Brakes
We have a solution to convert your 4-way to a 5-way so that your reverse lockout solenoid can activate but we don't have a plug and play style of adapter. Instead your best option is a 4-way to 5-way adapter part # 20036 which plugs into your current 4-way and then gives you an additional wire you'd run to the reverse light circuit of your truck. You can use a quick splice connector part # SWC501746-1 to tap into the circuit easily.

  • Replacing Trailer 5-Way Connector with 6 Wires
While the wire colors that are used on your trailer are a bit different, it appears that you simply have what is called a wishbone wiring harness. You can replace the 5-Way with a harness like the Draw-Tite Wishbone Style 5-Way # 20017. This style basically means that there is a separate running lights circuit wire that runs down each side of the trailer (instead of a traditional setup that would just run a single wire back and then use a jumper wire at the rear to go from one tail light...

  • T-Connector Trailer Wiring Harness for a 1998 Ford Windstar
Many vehicles like your 1998 Ford Windstar have a 3 wire system with separate turn signals and brake lights. These vehicles require a converter which takes that separate signal and combines down to a 2-wire system used on most trailers. For your van you would use harness # C55346. It plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.

  • Wiring Trailer Lights for 2009 Pontiac Vibe Without Using Converter
Probably the easiest way to handle this situation would be to use a 5-way connector, part # 20017 for the trailer and part # HM37908 for the vehicle end. Use the extra wire for the brake light lead. If the trailer needs to be towed by another vehicle, simply use the 4 to 5 Way Adapter, part # 47515.

  • Replacement 5-Flat Trailer Harness
Thank you for the photo; from that and your description it sounds like all you need is a replacement 5-Flat for your trailer and I recommend the 5-Flat Trailer End 48" Harness # 20017. What you can do is simply cut off the 5-flat that is on your boat trailer and use the quick splices that come with the # 20017 to splice into those wires. I have added a link to a video which shows an install of a 5-flat on a boat trailer, as well as a link to a help article on trailer wiring which I strongly...

  • Installation of a Brake Controller and Trailer Connector On a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country
Your Chrysler Town and Country will need to be hardwired to install a brake controller. I would recommend the Electronic Trailer Brake Controller Kit, item # ETBC7, which has all of the wiring, circuit breakers and connectors needed to install a 7-Way and 4-Way connector at the rear of your vehicle. I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, item # 90885, which is a proportional controller that is easy to use and works great. You do not have to install a 7-Way connector...

I'm assuming you're wanting to convert your trailer with what looks like it could be a 5 flat wiring connection to a standard 7 way round. If that's what you're wanting to do, you're going to need to first find out what each wire does and connect them to the 5-Flat Trailer End 48" Harness # 20017. For the # 20017 harness, the white wire is going to be the ground, the green wire is right turn/brake, the yellow wire is left turn/brake, the brown with green tracer is right side tail lights,...

When paired with the Kodiak Trailer Hub # KH84545S that is also stainless steel you will not have to deal with the corrosion you are likely having to deal with. • Do I Need a 5-Pole to 4-Pole Adaptor to Tow a Small Utility Trailer With My 2000 GMC Sierra
Since you have a 5-Pole flat connector on your truck you should not have to make any modifications to plug the 4-Pole connector on the smaller trailer into the 5 pole connector on the truck. Basically a 5-Pole is set up exactly like a 4-Pole connector with the addition of the brake lockout connection on the far end so the yellow, green, brown and white wires should all line up. If leaving the blue brake wire connection open when towing the smaller trailer is a concern. you could wire the...

  • Recommended 5-way Trailer Connector Harness To Connect to 5-way Flat Connector On Motorcycle
I would be happy to help! To replace your current 4-way flat connector I recommend the 5-Flat Trailer End 48" Harness # 20017 which will plug into the 5-way flat connector on your motorcycle. The reason I recommend replacing is it will be a quick install, and the 5-way to 4-way adapters offered have the wrong ends for what you are looking to do. I included a video of the # 20017 for you to take a look at.

  • What is the Function of the 5th Pin on a Trailer Connector 5-Way Flat Connector
The 5th wire on a 5-Way flat connector is intended to connect to the vehicle's reverse light circuit. This is for the exact situation you described, so the 5th wire can signal a surge coupler's electric reverse lockout. If you need a 5-Way flat trailer-side connector, you can use the Draw-Tite 5-Flat Trailer End 48 Inch Harness # 20017. This connector is designed for the 5th wire to carry the reverse light signal from the vehicle to the brake actuator. The # 20017 connector will work...

  • Wiring 2005 VW to Tow Trailer with Amber Turn Signals Using 5-Way Connectors, Part # HM37908, 20017
This is an unusual situation. Typically, trailers carry the brake and turn indicators on the same circuit, one for the passenger side, and one for the drivers side. The easiest way to wire this would be to cut off your existing 4- way connector and use a 5-way connector. Then wire the fifth lead on the vehicle side into the brake light circuit. You would need the 5-Flat Vehicle End, part # HM37908, and the 5-Flat Trailer End, part # 20017. This would be the simplest way to wire your trailer.
