Video Transcript for All About the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter

Ellen : Hey everybody, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com where we're taking a quick look at the Curt Wiring Adapter. This is going to go from a seven pole, or an RV style connector, to a five way flat. So if that's what you have on the back of your vehicle, and you need to connect to your trailer, this is going to be the adaptor to get you there. It measures out about 96 inches when you fully stretch it out. But that coil design is going to help to keep the excess off the ground. So as you stretch it out, it's not going to just be dragging on the ground and getting marred up or scraped or anything like that.So we'll take a closer look and I'll show you those terminals, so you can make sure that this is the right fit for you. Now, our seven blade would normally have seven functions, but since it's only going to our five wires, that's all the functions that we're going to get from this. And those five functions are going to be your stop, or your brake signal, your turn, so left and right, running lights, reverse signal as well. And again, just corresponds with the terminals on the other side.

The ends are molded plastic construction, so that helps keep corrosion down. Although the terminals inside are metal, so it's a good idea to use some dielectric grease and get those down into the connectors to help create a water barrier. It just helps to cut down on any kind of corrosion on those terminals, helps keep it lasting longer and working better for many years to come. That's pretty much all there is to it for our quick look at the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right one for you. We do have a lot of other trailer and hitch accessories here at etrailer.com, lots of wiring stuff as well.

And it's always our goal to get you the best information possible so you can make the right choice the first time.So again, I hope this video is helpful in that regard. Thanks for watching..

  • What Parts are Needed to Add Charge Circuit to Towed Vehicle that Has 4-Way Setup
Hey Leo, if the tow bar lighting your setup has is a 4-way which only carries the lighting functions you'd have to change connector style to allow for charging as none of the 4-way functions would be able to carry a charge circuit. So what you would need is to swap to a 5-way like with the part # HM47910 at the front of your tow vehicle and then if needed change your coiled adapter to a 7-way to 5-way like the part # C84HR. The fifth circuit of the 5-way would get ran to the positive post...
