To determine where to splice into your vehicle's tail light wiring, you will need to consult the included instructions. Use the quick-splice connectors to attach the input wires of the tail light converter to the corresponding wires from your vehicle. Once you've spliced in the converter, connect the included hot lead to the black wire and run it up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Then locate a flat surface inside your vehicle near the tail lights and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. Find a raw metal surface to use as a ground point and secure the white ground wire using the provided ring terminal and screw. Finally, secure the converter wires to your vehicle using the included cable ties.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on the 4-pole connector to help prevent corrosion.
Because most trailers run on a 2-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on 1 wire - the signals from your vehicle may have to be converted to be compatible with your trailer's wiring. If your vehicle operates on a 3-wire system, which means that it has separate brake and turn signals, then those signals will need to be combined so that they run on 1 wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. This converter will also ensure that your trailer's lights illuminate fully, even if your vehicle has pulse-width modulation (PWM) wiring. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

A small torx is required.
Per video my wiring on left side is correct Red to the Yellow/Black, Yellow to the Blue/Green. Test tool (as seen in video) shows nothing when brake pedal pushed; brake indicators on tester both light up when running lights are on, but the running lights indicator does not light up.
Blinker indicators on tester are correct.
Have done the training cycle 6 times, slowly.

Hi. Turns out the video for the 2013 x3 is correct, for my 2017. Brake and tail lights on separate wires.
The wiring harness doesn't quite work as advertised. I followed the provided instructions. Now when I turn on the left turn signal on my 2024 Kia Telluride, the left side trailer running lights also flash with the turn signal. The right side turn signal works correctly. Harness installation was a huge PITA. I blame Kia for not having a plug and play like my 2022 Santa Fe had. I had to remove both tail lights, splice into the factory wiring then run a power wire from the rear to the car's battery in the front. Again, a huge PITA but that's Kia's fault, not etrailer. Except for those things, I would've given more stars.

Yes, I would say powered hardwire harnesses are a tough install. I want to help do little trouble shooting with you. Can you check the area where you grounded the wire to make sure that it is to bare metal. If it is a clean, metal location already, disconnect the ground wire and attach it to a long piece of wire. Run this wire to the vehicle's negative battery terminal for testing purposes. If this solves the issue, the ground wire can be permanently run to the negative battery terminal or moved to a new location. I am hoping that this will stop the left turn signal from flashing on the trailer.
Once I understood I had a 2 wire system in my 2022 BMW X3 the installation went well. The green wire for the right tail light is too short and I had to splice on an additional 2' of wire.
2023 Hyundai Palisades are unique. Your website indicates that this item works for the 2023 Palisade, but according to a lady in your office, it only addresses the lights on the trailer, but does not disconnect the automatic braking system built into the Palisade in the event of a rear end collision that applies the brakes when it senses an obstacle (read boat trailer). Very frustrating!

I have a fix for you. All you need to do is turn off that feature in the vehicle while towing. I have a Hyundai and you will just need to play around in the vehicle menu system to find it and turn it off. I recommend reading up in your manual the section on towing. There may be other features you have that you will want to disable.
Excellent customer service. Had a few questions regarding correct trailer hitch and wiring harness to get and was quickly able to chat with a friendly and knowledgeable eTrailer associate. After my order within hours they had my order packed up and to the carrier for shipping. Very satisfied.
I installed this item on my 2023 Hyundai Palisade and it did not go very well. The blue wire connectors that came with it are terrible and should not be used. Taillight wires on vehicles with LED lights are extremely thin and the blue connectors do not pierce thru the insulation and into the wire. Over half of the lights didn’t work and I had to spend way too much time figuring out where the problem was and then making new connections. I cut and soldered the connections to get the lights working.
This part of the installation was the most challenging. I couldn't find a video specific to my Clarity, but the Honda Civic video was close enough. I did need to use smaller gauge wire splice connectors. The ones supplied didn't cut through the insulation of my cars small wires.
This is a very generic DIY converter. You will have a very very hard time figuring out how to connect it to the 2023 Palisade. It may interfere with the car's tail light diagnostic function. Hyundai says to buy their S8F67AC800. Not much more expensive. Requires the opening of quite a bit of plastic trim but its a full 7 way solution if you want, or 5 or 4. Even has brake controller input capability. This is the correct solution.
I installed Curt's 59236. It was the only connector available for my 2012 Kia Sorento SX. The down side for this install is that there is no documentation for splicing the harness in place. My tail lights are LED, and have 8 wires coming off the light. Phone calls for help to both ETrailer and Curt were marginally helpful and Curt even suggested I contact th National Traffic and Safety Board. Install was intimidating, but with the help of my meter I was able deduce the correct the wires for splicing. I would hope that ETrailer or Curt produce videos for this type of install. I would have made one, but I had no confidence it was going to work. Surprisingly everything worked great.
Was having a terrible time finding a vendor to get a work around for a new truck without OEM trailer packaging installed. After a few min with Ashley an order was placed and w days later the proper materials were at my doorstep with detailed instructions as well. Thanks etrailer for helping me out!
The quality of this product along with the easy to follow instructions made the installation a breeze. I can without hesitation recommend this product to anyone interested in a do it yourself wire harness.
The labeling on the site said this was a "Custom" fit for my vehicle. I guess you could say that it's a custom fit for all vehicles, since it has to be crimped into your wiring harness. I had to pay return shipping, this changed my opinion of etrailer. I didn't order the replacement from them. :(
This is my fourth trailer hitch I’ve ordered through etrailer over the years (Honda Odyssey, Toyota Corolla, Subaru Outback, and Kia Sportage), and each time has been easy cheesy. This includes a trailer axle and shocks i ordered for my 5x8, and a lighting kit. In fact, they’ve upped their game with customer service! (And I’m a regular ‘ol dad that just likes towing things - not doing it for a business or anything.) Next car, I’ll do it again! Thanks team.
Product is great, but was very difficult to install without help. Could not figure out the wiring from the instruction video. Would really have appreciated a diagram that tells me exactly which wires to splice into
Wire could have bin an above foot longer for the tail light hook up. The wire going to battery was plenty long. Worked great.
E trailer has found the perfect blend of new tech and old fashion customer service. This is the second wiring kit for older vehicles I’ve ordered and the second time they’ve come thru big. They ship right away and I get email updates along the way. Package arrived yesterday (in Cannada) only a week after ordering.
I installed this last night after work. It was installed on a 2019 Audi Q7. The only issue I had was the splice connectors are too large to go over the tail light wires on the vehicle. Random luck would have it that the left turn signal worked, and the other two connections failed. I had to remove the hatch panel again this morning and removed the splice connectors to reveal they had not penetrated the signal wires. I had to use a pair of wire strippers on the 20 gage tooth and manually remove a section of the insulation and then reconnect the slice fitting. After that, it appears to be working great!
Excellent fit! This was a tough car to find the wiring harness with the hitch. Looks sharp!! Thanks :)

perfectly
The customer service from etrailer is second to none! I had an issue with a delay on shipping on my wiring harness and Brooke found an option for me in record time. Brooke's communication and willingness to help was amazing!!
Watched whatever videos available on [online] before installing this it will help. Make sure you understand what type of wiring system you are working with, description of several different configurations in the install instructions, study and read them. Running power wire from trunk to battery under car with the car on jack stands is a royal PITA. I suggest you do everything else and pay your favorite repair shop to run this wire for you. When we completed the install everything worked perfectly.
Would not work for my vehicle. I had to repin the connector to get it to work properly. NON led lights.
This was not in the description anywhere that this part would not work with non led lights.

Sorry for the confusion but it does say under the confirmed fit without LED taillights
Installed this myself. The instructions were complete and the install was easy. Everything needed was included in the package. Etrailer Was very efficient in its order processing, shipping and communications via email. Arrived when they said it would. Very satisfied with etrailer.
Great Product, although I had to lengthen a few of the wires for My application.
Arrived quickly, just as described. Hitch bar was of great quality & easy to install. Wiring was in good order with easy to use instructions.

You will need to double check and make sure that your ground wire is attached to a clean metal surface. If you are grounded properly, and still have no lights, then you will want to test the converter box itself. If you are receiving power to the box and nothing out of the box, then it is possible that you have a defective box.
