Video Transcript for Feature Review 7-Way Molded Connector w/ 10' Cable

Speaker 1: Today we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Bargman seven way molded trailer connector with a 15 foot cable. Also available in a 10, 18, and 22 feet length. Here's what our cable looks like installed. Now the main reason your going to need a new cable like this one is because if you didn't adequately have the slack tied up when your towing your trailer, it can drag on the ground, causing abrasion, causing a short and it won't work properly anymore.Hooking up to our tow vehicle is as simple as lifting our door, making sure the notch on our cable faces up to push it in. And then the latch on the door will grab the tab and hold it in place. So you don't have to worry about it getting pulled out.

Well, one thing that's nice about this connector, compared to others on the market, is that when we need to unplug from our truck, we have these nice finger tabs here to get an easy grip on it, as we pull out.Now one thing that sets this cable apart from others in the market, is where the end of our cable meets our seven way connector, right here. It's molded together. And this will prevent moisture from getting inside, offering a superior weather resistance, and we don't have to worry about corrosion happening where the wires are connected to our terminals inside the connector. This will cause better electrical performance over the course of time. This thick insulation will provide protection from the elements, and also will help protect it from abrasion if it we're to rub against something. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed.

We need to locate the junction box where our wiring connections are made. In our particular case, this is our junction box in our trailer. You'll typically find this near the front. Remove the lid. We'll now remove the nuts on all of our terminals, that hold our wires in place.

Now in our particular case, our factory seven way wire comes into the top here, and all the connections are these top connectors right here. So, we'll one at a time remove the terminals that cover up those wires, then remove those wires themselves and place back on the ones on the bottom that cover them up. This way, we can easily make our connection without becoming confused.Okay, now that we have all seven of our wires disconnected from the terminals on our junction box, we can pull those away, remove our grommet from those wires, you'll keep the grommet, then we'll remove the cable from the trailer. We've gone ahead and routed our new cable through the cable retainer on our frame, and we'll install the ends into our grommet. Okay, we installed our grommet back into our junction box, like the way it was originally.

Now we'll cut off the excess of our wires. Strip out the installation. And we'll crimp on new rain terminals which we have available on our website to each one of the wires. And we'll place them on to the corresponding stud where they belong. This blue wire here, that's for our electric trailer break output. So I'll put that one to the terminal that's label for our electric brakes. Next one's our green wire, and that one is for our tail lights. We'll do our brown wire next. That one's for our right turn signal. Your yellow wire next. That's for a reverse white output, or reverse yellow one for hydraulic trailer brakes, if your trailer had hydraulic brakes. Now we'll do a red wire. That one's for our left turn signal. Now we'll do our black wire. That's for our constant 12 volt power. That leaves us with the white wire. That's our ground wire. Now we'll reinstall all of our nuts. So, with all of our connections now made, we'll reinstall our cover. Now we'll test our our wiring by taking our plug and going into a tester. You can also plug it into the back of your truck. And we'll test out all of our functions. Now we'll start by turning our tail lights on. Okay, those are working good. Now we'll try our brake lights. Brake lights are working good. Do a right turn signal now. That's working good. Try out a left turn signal. That's working great. And that completes our look at and installation of the Bargman seven way molded trailer connector with a 15 foot cable, part number 50-67-103.

I converted a truck box camper wiring to plug in at bumper instead of behind cab. The” pigtail” and wiring diagrams made it an easy repair and therefore safer as well as consistent. Very happy a year later.

This is a Quality product . I needed a longer cable as mine was damaged when it got pinched in my hitch . Fast shipping as always top shelf parts from etrailer.

Working great very high quality

by:

This was exactly what I needed to fit my snowmobile trailer. I have one of your connector boxes up high on the wall and this was a great length to go from the truck to the box without splicing the wires. It is a great quality electrical connector as well.

by:

Exactly as stated. Haven't wired the trailer yet. Wire color doesn't match the receptical but other than that looks well put together.

After figuring out wire colors testing each circuit all is well and works great

by:

What’s with the wire colors?? I mean really ring out this cable before you use it. All the wire colors are not the standard trailer colors. Almost found out the hard way. Other than that great cable.

Thanks for the follow up Matthew. I am very glad that you tested and confirmed functions, which is what we recommend. I have confirmed with my contacts at Bargman and this wiring harness has the traditional RV wiring configuration. For this the colors and functions are as follows: Black is 12V power, Green is Tail and Running lights, Red is Left turn and Stop, White is Ground, Blue is Brake controller output, Brown is right turn and Stop. I have included a link below for your reference to one of our help articles.

I ordered several items to fix a trailer that had a previous shade tree mechanic fix. Items came quickly and were affordable. Website is very easy to navigate. I like to do things one time. Etrailer allows me to do just that with their expansive inventory. I have ordered several times and will continue to do so.

This plug connection was extremely well made. I prefer the removable head style to be able to fix wire issues but this seems to be very well made and stout. Wires were heavier than factory and the casing was much thicker.

by:

my plug adapter is to short so how can I return it and get a longer one

by:

Nice plug but just would not push on to any of the four plugs I have cord is pretty stiff and is going to be worse in the winter, only one they had with fifteen feet of cable should have just sent it back

by:

Nice product except that the wire color positions are incorrect.

by:

One year old and everything has held up well

Just what I needed, great quality in material and workman ship and. Super fast shipping........I will be back to order more, Thank you!

  • Adjusting Dexter Electric Brake Kit
If you can hear the magnet working then the issue is most likely in the brake adjustment/installation. Please verify that installation is correct then make adjustments. For self adjusting brakes such as Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit, # 23-468-469, this initial adjustment, see the linked installation video below, can sometimes be challenging. After you get that initial set-up accomplished, you can drive the trailer in an empty parking lot and apply the brake a number of...

The 7-Way Molded Connector w/ 15' Cable - Trailer End # 50-67-103 uses copper connectors. My contact said the molded connectors from Bargman don't have any aluminum and are not tinned. They are simply copper conductors not CCA or copper tinned.

  • Converting Hydraulic Disc Brakes to Electric Drum Brakes on 2007 Mastercraft Boat Trailer
Although we do not have a premade kit I can help you put the parts together. As long as you have slack in the wire it will allow you to still use the folding tongue. You also need to find your axle capacity and possibly bearing combination since you will need new brake assemblies along with new hub and drum assemblies. In addition to the hubs and brakes you're going to need wiring, a breakaway kit, and a brake controller. I recommend the following: -7-Way Molded Connector w/ 15' Cable...

A better solution is to upgrade your current axles with something like Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - Spindle w/Brake Flange - Regular Tires - 2,200 lbs # ASR1THDS01, or if you need lift spindles you can go with Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System -...

  • Recommended 7-Way Extension With Trailer End Connectors for Cab Over Camper on 2022 Silverado 2500
As far as I know that is not something that is normal for an older camper. More than likely the blue wire has taken the place of the yellow wire for some reason since you have no need for a brake controller. The 7-way connection in the bed of your 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is designed for 5th wheel/gooseneck towing so that is the reason why it is located there. In order to connect the 7-way on your vehicle to the camper you need wiring with two trailer end connectors on it like the...

  • Parts Need to Replace Hydraulic Brakes with Electric Brakes on a 10K Tandem Axle Trailer
First, check the drum to see if it says anything about only working with hydraulic brakes. If it does then you would also need to replace the hub and drum assemblies to ones that are compatible with electric brakes. If this is the case I would need to know the inner and outer bearing numbers and the bolt pattern of the wheels. If the drums can be used with electric brakes then just measure the inner diameter of the drum and the width where the brake shoes make contact with the drum. Based...

  • What Happens if Reverse Light Pin of 7-Way Doesn't Have Purple Wire
Hey Aaron, for trailer wiring the colors are only a guide and not always carefully followed. In your case if the reverse light pin of your 7-way happens to have a black wire then that's perfectly fine to use for the reverse lights. So what you'd want to do is run the reverse lights from the pin of the 7-way (should be center) and you'd be fine.

While there is a bit of variance between the color standards for how 7-way trailer connectors are wired the actual pin of the 7-way is the same regardless of what style you have. The two common ones are traditional and RV which I attached a picture of that shows the two color setups. You can see that the colors might be different but the pin outs of the two connectors are the same. Assuming that the axle that doesn't currently have brake assemblies has a brake mounting flange inboard from each spindle, you an easily install brakes on the second axle. A standard 3500 lb axle would use 10 inch hubs with a L68149 inner and a L44649 outer wheel bearing (you'll want to check your existing bearings to confirm). If that indeed is what you have, I'd recommend the # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K 3500 lb hub drum with a 5 on 4-1/2 wheel bolt pattern, which are sold individually. You'll...

  • Gauge Wire to Use for Trailer with Triple Axle Setup that is 43 Feet Long Overall
It does sound like you need heavier gauge wire for the brake output circuit on your trailer to activate them properly. For that many axles and that length of trailer 10 gauge for the circuit just isn't going to cut it. I'd go with 8 gauge wire like Dexter recommends.

  • Horse Trailer Electric Brakes Lock Up When Backing Up the Trailer
There could be a short in the truck or trailer side connector that occurs when the vehicle is put in reverse. The center pin is typically the reverse light circuit. You will want to make sure that the truck and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. Inspect the power wires to the magnets and look for pinched, frayed, or damaged wires and fix as needed. Make sure the ground wires are attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.

  • Installing 7-Way Wiring Connector to Trailer For Reverse Light Function
The center pin on your 7-way on the trailer side is the reverse light function. These can be different colors, which I get is confusing, but you will need to do some deductive reasoning or use a circuit tester to determine the function and color. For instance the yellow wire on the Hopkins # H20044 or the Bargman # 50-67-103 is the reverse wire which isn't the norm because the yellow wire is typically the left turn and left brake wire. I've attached a photo and an article to assist. You...

  • How Much Slack Is Needed In Trailer Wire Connection To The Tow Vehicle?
The length of wire desired depends on your vehicle connection and your personal preference. You want enough slack for turning, but not so much for dragging as you mentioned. A little extra slack isn't a problem and not enough could lead to stress and wire connection problems. In general, you will want between 16 inches and 24 inches of wire beyond the tongue depending on where your connection point is on your tow vehicle.
