Hello, neighbor, Steven here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at the Dutton-Lainson Covered Hand Winch with an automatic brake and a TUFFPLATE finish rated at 1500 pounds. So folks, if you've never seen one of these, it's basically a standard duty winch that is designed for vertical and horizontal pulling or lifting, and it just has a nice plastic case over it to make everything nice and neat and clean looking. Now it'll be perfect for grain augers, boat lifts, and other industrial kind of applications. Again, it has an automatic brake mechanism, so if you had something pulling on it, and you stopped, it would hold it in place and everything. Obviously there's no cable or strap on here, so it's not gonna do anything as far as the automatic brake at this point, but you can kind of see everything spinning here when I crank it, either forward or reverse.
And the handle simply spins on much like a threaded bolt and spins back off. And then there's a retainer nut right here that goes on on the outside of that to finish the install. So I hope you can kind of see those threads in there. There we go. And the handle itself from end to end, I was getting 10-1/2" long.
Again, nice hard plastic case. As far as mounting it, you've got 1, 2, 3 slots. You will need bolts to hold them in place that's sold separately. 3/8" bolts. I recommend stainless steel if you're putting it on a boat trailer just because of the water.
You're also gonna get everything you need to install a cable and it has a gear ratio of 5:4:1, and the maximum drum capacity on the cable would be 1/4" thick cable at 60' or a 31' strap. And I'll get, you can see it here, but you got this top bolt here that's for installing the strap and the cable and everything. Just follow the instructions and you should be good. Now again, everything here has a zinc TUFFPLATE finish and the hardware and everything underneath the plastic, so the gear and everything in here has got that TUFFPLATE finish. So that's gonna resist corrosion, rust, all those kind of things as well.
Now it does have a freewheel mode as well, so you can manually control the strap or a cable payout alongside that automatic brake mechanism. It is made here in the US. And that's gonna wrap it up for our quick look at this Dutton-Lainson Covered Hand Winch with automatic brake rated at 1500 pounds. I'm Steven, thanks so much for watching. Folks, have fun out there when you're traveling.
