Hello neighbors, Steven here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at our Dutton Lainson hand winch with a worm gear set up and a loop drive split reel rated at 1500 pounds capacity. So folks, again, this is a worm gear design winch for standard duty vertical lifting applications. If you're not familiar, a worm gear is simply just a big screw in effect, but it's a worm gear driven, it's quieter than your traditional click, click, click gears and that kind of stuff. Very simple design. You just keep spinning the worm gear here and it just keeps on cranking.
The load automatically holds whenever you stop turning, so no matter if you're going forward or back, it's automatically held in position. So it's a lot safer in some cases than the ones with the quick release buttons and that kind of stuff. It is a loop drive, which is gonna let you use a shepherd hook or a power drill. So basically you put that hook in there and with the power drill, you could simply spin it and then that would spin this. Something kind of like to that nature, it is a laminated high carbon steel gear set up and it's got a nice finish on it.
The embossed steel is gonna not corrode, not rust and everything like that. It's got a nice heavy gauge steel bottom for extra strength. And it has been permanently lubricated bearings inside of this shaft here that you can't see. And that's gonna help on the drive shaft to make it maintenance free. You can also hand drive this so you can put a hook in there and hand crank it and everything if you want.
And again, it's been powder coated in a nice bronze copper-ish finish, made right here in the US. As far as some cable length options, it can hold a 81 foot cable that is 3/16" in diameter. You can hold a 61 foot long cable that's 7/30 seconds inch thick, and you can hold 43 feet of 1/4" diameter cable. It's got a nice five year warranty. And as far as some dimensions, you got 6-3/4" overall on the length on the side arms there or side plates, 5-1/2" tall overall and 5-3/4" wide.
And as far as mounting it, you got lots of different slot holes here. Those are gonna give you many options as far as being able to slide and match up some processed holes, maybe if you're replacing one or just put it in place where you want, put it, trace the holes, make your drill marks, drill it out, and then put your bolts in, you're ready to go. Well folks, I will wrap it up for our quick look at this Dutton Lainson hand winch with the worm gear loop drive split reel. I'm Steven, thanks for watching.

It showed a detachable loop drive and indicated that a drill could be used with it. However the loop is welded on and an additional connection will need to be made to use a drill to drive it. Otherwise seems like the perfect winch for lifting. Good service and shipping, quick answer to my question regarding shipping.

Awesome winch. Brought down a 65 foot hingedham radio tower. Tremendous load near the end of the tilt. That Which will hold a load without budging. Love me some made in American stuff.
