I had to grind a little bit off the gussets on the mounting plate on my Tracker trailer to mount the winch but the bolt pattern was perfect. The electric cable that was provided with the winch wasn't quite long enough for my 4 door F150 so I used my wife's Explorer with the cable provided and got a longer cable and fuse for my pickup and then put a plug at the rear of both vehicles and a plug to the winch so I can use either vehicle. The winch pulled our 16'Tracker boat up on the trailer easily and I discovered you had tighten the gear locking mechanism quite snug or it would slip. I noticed the pulling belt on the winch is not quite as heavy as the one on my hand winch and I plan on swapping it out. Other than that, I am happy with my purchase.

Review from a similar StrongArm in Trailer Winch

I purchased this winch to replace a Fulton K2550 manual winch on my ham radio tower. My tower is 54 ft tall when extended and 21 ft when retracted. It takes about 170 turns of the winch to raise/lower the tower. I removed the hand winch and placed the D-L SA9010AC winch in the existing mounting holes. I like this winch since it comes with a stainless hub since it will be used outside. This winch has a 2700 lb load rating. I am lifting around 700 lbs. This winch comes with no cable or freewheeling clutch. I reused the 1/4" stainless cable on the winch. I raised the tower and it took 2 minutes and 10 seconds. Lowering took 2 minutes. Well within the maximun run time of 3 minutes. The cable length winched was 17 ft. I have raised and lowered the tower several times to work on the antenna's and it worked properly every time. Attached are several pictures of the installation. I already recommended this winch to another ham operator.

Comments
I too am considering this winch. I have a US towers 455, about the same height you reference, that came with a Fulton 1550 and I have upgraded to a 2550 and then a 3000. But still takes too much effort. So my question is: are you still happy with this winch? How long have you had it? Any issues at all? Thanks,
-- comment by: Fred S - 07/30/2014
Hi Fred,Yes, I am still happy with the winch. It has been on a couple months so far. Only comment I forgot was, the optional cover for the winch is very snug when you have to keep the remote and gfi plug covered. I think I will be making a separate waterproof cover for those two parts so the winch cover will fit better
-- comment by: Joer S - 08/01/2014
Actually, I have become dissatisfied with the Fulton 3000. I tried attaching a Hawg drill like so many have suggested. It worked the first summer, but after a winter exposure, the drill tore it up this spring. I have spent the last few weeks investigating motorized winches and finally ordered the Stong Arm Dutton-Liason. It looks very much like a 2550 with a cover and ac motor and is stainless mostly. It hasnt come yet so I will let you know next year how it is doing.

Review from a similar StrongArm in Trailer Winch

Put this winch on my Ranger 620 boat trailer a year ago and love it! Haven't had a single problem and it helps trailering when I fish alone. I ran power and ground from my truck battery to a back bumper plug, and have a separate removable cable (shown in pic) to connect truck plug to the winch plug. Grounding to the truck didn't work for me. I have another spare cable and plug rolled up and attached to my trolling motor battery for when my buddies drive. Winch prevents power loading and drawing sand into the motor. DL24055 adapter plate was needed and I put a coupler lock up through the middle of the winch to prevent theft and I bought a cover (shown in pic) to keep the rain out. etrailer sales and support are absolutely fabulous! They helped me figure all this out.

Review from a similar StrongArm in Trailer Winch

I am a 77 year old man and having to hand winch my small sailboat up on a shore ramp that I have. It was getting to be a bit much, so I decided to look into a 12volt winch. The Dl25200 fit the bill, works great. I have a 12volt battery next to it and a 10 , watt solar charger to keep the battery up, I hope. Time will tell. The service at etrailer was great, good price and fast shipping. Thanks

Works great. I use it on a 19 foot Lund Impact and a roller trailer without a problem. I recommend this product.

Great on a boat trailer. Makes loading a breeze. A wireless remote would make this winch even better. Currently in use with a 19 foot Lund boat on a Shorelander roller trailer.

Review from a similar StrongArm in Trailer Winch

I installed this winch as a replacement for the standard winch on my Magic Tilt trailer for my 21ft. SeaFox. I replaced the winch so that my wife would not have to hand crank when helping me load the boat. I only wish I'd done it sooner! It works like a charm, the install was simple and it has held up well. I keep the winch covered with a tarp to keep the rain off of it and I'm sure that has helped. The SeaFox weighs about 3000# plus the weight of the motor, fuel and whatever other junk we've got onboard. If you are looking for a good electric winch to make your life easier, I recommend this one.

After a year of use, we are still very pleased with our purchase and would still recommend this winch.

Performs well. Cable does fray easily if there is any slack. Would be better with a strap.

Good quality, works fine although it grunts a bit on the last couple of feet. I appreciate the use of a pretty universal power connector. Changes of or additional vehicles made so much easier. Like the strap rather than wire rope.

To whom it may concern,

The power
cable that came with the winch is 4' short. It was mounted on the front of a boat trailer and I have a full size pick up.

It pulls my boat onto the trailer with ease and it always worked. The big thing for me is how long will it last. If it works as well in 5 or 10 years I'll give it five stars.

I installed this on my Bavaria sailboat to lift the aft bathing platform up and down. A little bit slower and louder than the original system but this has the manual override which is invaluable if/when there is an electrical problem. Their customer service was outstanding.

Review from a similar StrongArm in Trailer Winch

Beware! Read the specs carefully. We have a 3,900lb boat and a 32 roller trailer. On an average incline boat ramp the winch can barely pull the boat up. The last 3 ft or so the winch cuts out.
Their rating are based on something like a 6 ft pull.
1,500 lbs pull.

Previously we had a Powerwinch brand 4 k winch that pulled our boat out fine. Tree fell on it so we needed a replacement .

The next size up in DL is a 9,000lb winch
We thought that was overkill. Turns out that was probably what we needed. It has a 3,000 lb pull rating. If you take your boats to different launches you know they can vary a lot on the incline. Wouldn’t be fun being at a busy ramp and your whimpy winch couldn’t pull your boat on the trailer. Very disappointed in this winch.
Another $300 boat anchor.

Review from a similar StrongArm in Trailer Winch

Giving this 4 stars, as we have only used it once...waiting to see how it holds up. We need to winch a 21' jet boat onto and off a floating dock and this is replacing our hand winch. So much easier! We swapped out the wire cable for the nylon one that is compatible with this winch - better for marine use. We needed to drill one extra hole for our mounting, but install was relatively straight forward. This does stay mounted to our dock, exposed to the elements. We are covering the unit and wires with plastic to help prolong its life.

Customer service at etrailer was fantastic. They helped me choose the correct items for our needs and followed up with the order. I would use them again and recommend them to others.

This has been a great purchase. As I get older it is becoming more difficult to load my boa. This has made using my boat much easier.

You can use the Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Trailer Winch # TW4015 to get the bow eye close enough for the trailer's strap to attach to it, but you would not want to route this through the eye or use this as a way to hold the boat to the trailer when on the road.

  • Best Electric Boat Trailer Winch and How to Determine Capacity
I would be happy to help you! When it comes to choosing an electric winch or any winch for a boat trailer, there are a few general rules we can use. The boat-size-to-winch capacity is generally 2 to 1. With good rollers and short winching distances, the ration can increase to 3 to 1 and with wooden bunks and long winching distances, you will want to reduce the capacity to 1 to 1. Since you have plastic sides instead of carpet you will probably be in the 2 to 1 range. I recommend the Dutton-Lainson...
