Well built winch BUT I find the design that requires you to wind in different directions for each speed to be irritating. THEN there is the bolt for installing a strap. Ever try and buy a 3 1/4" inch bolt. They may be out there somewhere but the places I checked only have 3" and 3 1/2"...DL should provide a bolt with the winch!!!(Maybe they couldn't find one!) I did some shimming to a 3 1/2" but don't feel very good about it.1370740

Replaced 1400lb-4.1/1 Shelby. 4.1/1 was a little too high. Even cranking in my little 16ft/1000lb Aquasport center console was a bit of a workout the last 1/3rd of the way on to the roller trailer. Haven't actually loaded the boat with this one yet but I have no doubt it has more than enough reduction to make the job easy.

Good quality, sturdy, good welds, nice wide gears, and the rust coating looks heavy. Installation was piece of cake, changing the ratchet direction was easy for under spool take up. Holds 20 ft. heavy duty nylon strap with room to spare.

The service I received from the good folks at etrailer.com was excellent as I was trying to replace an original winch on a 1988 Performance trailer. I wanted to upgrade to a heavier capacity winch than the 1,600 lb original equipment. My first two choices did not fit the mounting plate on my trailer and had to be returned. Etrailer sent me return labels and made the return process easy although I did have to pay the shipping charges for both returns.

The replacement winch I eventually installed, a Dutton-Lainson two-speed 1,800 lb model, works fine for both launching the boat and I also use the winch for raising the mast on my 21' Precision sailboat (which is why I wanted a larger capacity).

I do think that the description for this model (DL15502) in incorrect in stating that it has a "reversible ratchet". The ratchet is either ON or OFF and only ratchets when pulling the load in. It does not ratchet when letting the load out - it freewheels. If you're considering this model I would suggest getting the variation which has the hand brake (model DL15504).

Despite this unexpected issue with how the ratchet actually operates I would definitely recommend doing business with Etrailer.com due to the great customer service they provide and the wide selection of products. 200209

I could not figure out how to wire my existing power winch to my new tow vehicle so I bought this winch. I have a 17" Arima. The two speed winch did all that it was claimed to do. I like the fact that it is made in the USA78819

I have used this winch for about a year. I originally bought it to replace a Power Winch.I bought it because of the two speed option. It has worked very well. If I am on a steep boat ramp I use the low speed gear, otherwise the high speed gear. I put some lithium grease on the handle to switch gears easier.

This is almost a carbon copy of another review...I also replaced a1400lb, 4.1/1 Shelby winch (probably original to trailer) for my 17' Sea Hunt center console on a roller trailer. Whereas the old winch was killing my shoulder, this new winch on the "speed gear" (5.3:1) is a little easier being a taller gear and having a longer handle; on the "power gear" (10.3:1) it takes a little longer to winch up, but is nearly effortless. I'm just going to use the power gear all the time. I also found Installation and changing the ratchet direction (to under-spool) very easy. Neat that when in the 10.3:1 gear, and spooled to take in "under," the handle cranks in the same direction as the spool turns. Also cool that the handle clips off really easy for when you need to free-spool the strap out to your bow eye. Note: I used a 3-1/2" long 3/8" galvanized bolt (and a galvanized flat washer on each side and a top-lock galvanized nut--nut to the toothed side of the drum!) for the strap, and there was plenty of room for that. Very happy with this purchase, very sturdy and looks as if it will last a long, long time.511652

Winch arrived quickly and bolted on without problem. When the strap came tight the boat easily moved up the last couple of inches I could not get with the old winch. The low speed / high torque mode is great!

This is a large winch and I put it on a small bass boat because I needed the extra power. The handle was much longer than the old winch and it barely clears my trailer. On a boat with a taller bow you will have plenty of clearance but my trailer has a low rise pedestal as would most bass boats.644498

Easy to install. Fit the trailer with no problem. The 2 speed winch makes it easy to pull my boat the last few inches up onto the trailer.213713

I ordered 3 of these winches for my Ice Castle fish house. I had to move the handle on one of the winches and it was effortless 2 bolts and I had it switched over in less than 5 minutes. These winches work great and the gear ratio is phenomenal. I would strongly recommend!!!!!124920

Well good and bad. My old winches were single speed and the handle was held on with a nut. These are 2 speed and I have to remove the handle at every job, so I dont like that. Had I had more time I would have returned them. The other smaller ones worked out great and so far the cables are fine and I had enough to fit both winches for our application. I might just weld the handles onto the 2 speed ones.All that being said I would still recommend your company, and will do business again.

Product worked great I installed it on the front of my Fishhouse to raise and lower the front end, the one I had on there stripped out the gear this one works great only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because when I ordered it I also ordered 25 feet of cable.
