Video Transcript for Let’s Check Out the Trailer Coupler Lock

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 63228. This is the Tow Ready Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Lock for 2-inch couplers. This is designed to fit most 2-inch couplers. It's going to feature an easy, single action key that's going to be this portion here. All you have to do is place that in, push it a little bit and then give it a turn. That's going to disengage the pin, allowing this portion here to fit around the socket of the coupler.

This needs to go around the lip that surrounds the base of the socket. Once you get that on there, you don't even have to have the key installed in order to lock it back in place. All you have to do is push this up. This is going to go around the inside lip of that socket where your hitch ball goes. In between this portion here is going to be the down portion of the front of the socket. Again, that's where your hitch balls are going to go.

That's going to prevent this from being able to back off of the coupler. This is designed to protect unattended trailers. It's going to come with 2 keys that use a pick-resistant design. Down here you can see the support system. This design shields the lock from tampering devices.

It's going to be made from a steel construction with a nice protective finish to stand up well against rust and corrosion. The lock an the pin assembly are steel as well and appear to have a nice zinc coating on them. Again, this is designed to fit most 2-inch couplers. A few measurements to go over real quick with you to see if this is going to fit your coupler. The coupler width, including the lip, must not exceed the inside measurement here, which is going to be 3-13/16 of an inch. It also cannot exceed the height that this portion gives us right here of the lip, which is going to be 5/16 of an inch.

Now replacement keys are available. You can find those right here at etrailer.com. I'm going to go ahead and show you how this would install. I have a 2-inch coupler here today. The measurements fit within the measurements that I listed. All we have to do is place this around the lip, push up on the pin. Even though the swivel's a little bit around that socket portion, around the lip, it's still engaged with that pin here on the underside. It's going to prevent the lock from being able to come off and it's going to prevent anybody from being able to hook up to our trailer. That's going to do it for our review of part number 63228. This is the Tow Ready Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Lock for 2-inch couplers. .

  • Replacement Key for Fulton Outboard Motor Lock OML0127
There are replacement keys available for your Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Lock # 63228 but you would need to know the key number to get the replacement at part CKEY-BS. If you know the key number just enter it where it says "Key Number" for a replacement. If you do not know your key number you would need a new Gorilla Guard Lock # 63228.

  • How To Find Replacement Keys for The Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Lock
The 350.054 is the patent number for the Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Locks 2" # 63228 and 2-5/16" # 63227 and not the key number. You will need to have the key number off of the key to get a replacement from the manufacturer. If you do not have a key you will need to contact a lock smith to remove the lock and order a new lock for your coupler.

  • Replacement Key Needed for Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Lock
It sounds like you are looking for the replacement key from Reese. Reese is a sister company of Fulton and Tow Ready who is now carrying the Gorilla Guard Coupler Locks # 63228 and # 63227. Replacement keys are no longer available so replacing the lock is the best option we can offer now.

  • Coupler Lock Comparison for Securing a Travel Trailer
Any type of lock you put on your trailer will be a theft deterrent. I recommend using the Fastway Universal Coupler Lock, part # FA86-0015-316, because it can mount on 1-7/8, 2 and 2-5/16 inch couplers and it fits on a wide variety of coupler types. The Diversi-Tech lock will be harder and noisier to break off than the Master Lock coupler lock which is a better deterrent for thieves. Wheel locks are also a secure option, but can be tedious to apply and still gives thieves a chance to...

  • Are You Able To Get Replacement Keys For Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Lock # 63228?
We do not carry any replacement keys for the Gorilla Guard Trailer Coupler Lock # 63228 as the manufacturer does not provide these. I recommend replacing your lock with the Trimax Dual Purpose Coupler Lock # TMX77FR. This will allow you to order replacement keys directly from Trimax by simply ordering the key based on the number stamped on the key. This way you could still get a replacement key if you lost both your keys.

  • Coupler Lock Recommendations for a Titan Multi-Fit Coupler
You will need to take a couple measurements on your Titan coupler to be sure it will fit, but I would recommend you get a Tow Ready Gorilla Guard # 63228. This lock will slip on the front of your coupler and should work well as a theft deterrent. The width of your coupler (including the lip) should not exceed 3-13/16 inches and the lip should not be thicker than 5/16 of an inch. Another option you have would be the Master Lock Universal Trailer Coupler Lock # 379DAT, this will work similar...

It sounds like you are looking for a replacement barrel key from Reese. Reese is a sister company of Fulton and Tow Ready who carries the Gorilla Guard Coupler Locks # 63228 (2"). Replacement keys are no longer available, replacing the lock is unfortunately the best option we can offer.

  • Is There A Replacement Barrel And Key For A 2 Inch Gorilla Coupler Lock?
We don't have any replacement parts available for the Gorilla Guard Coupler locks. You would need to replace the entire coupler lock with # 63228 to get the new barrel and key. I've attached a video of this product for you.

  • Solution for Replacement Key for Fulton Coupler Lock
Depending on the style of key you may be able to have a copy made. Outside of that option, there are no replacement keys available for your Fulton lock with a 605 key. If you lose your other key the only option would be to replace the lock with one like the # 63228 or # AMP89FR you were looking at.

  • Recommended Coupler Lock For Adjustable Ball Coupler
The HITCH-LOCK Trailer Guard Coupler Lock by Dutton-Lainson # DL13980 is a great option for both keeping your trailer coupler locked in place and deterred from theft. You of course need an external padlock like the Master Lock Padlock # ML1KA for this application. If you are just looking for a lock when the trailer is not coupled, I recommend the Trailer Coupler Lock - Gorilla Guard for 2" Couplers # 63228 or # 63227 in 2-5/16 inch.

  • Recommended Coupler Lock for a Tie-Down Engineering TDE Model 660 Brake Actuator
I have two recommended options for you to lock the Tie-Down Engineering (TDE) Model 660 Brake Actuator, the Master Lock Trailer Coupler Lock part # ML389DAT or the Fastway Universal Trailer Coupler Lock part # FA86-0015-316. These are my two favorite trailer coupler locks and they will both work well with your brake actuator. The Master Lock is our most popular option but the Fastway is a bit beefier so this is actually what I recommend for you. The Fastway also has a cover for the lock...

  • Are Gorilla Guard Coupler Lock Replacement Keys Available
Gorilla Guard does not offer replacement keys for their Trailer Coupler Locks like part # 63228 unfortunately. The only option is to replace the whole coupler lock. You may consider the Blaylock EZ Lock Coupler Lock for 1-7/8" and 2" Lipped Couplers part # BLTL-38 because they offer replacement keys and keyed alike options. They also use the barrel keys which are more secure compared to the standard keys. If you have a 2-5/16" coupler you'll need part # BLTL-34.

  • Choosing the Correct Size Trailer Coupler Lock
The coupler size should match the ball size it is coupling to. If you have a ball with a 2 inch diameter then you would need a 2 inch coupler lock. If the ball is 2-5/16 inches in diameter you would need a 2-5/16 inch coupler lock. For 2 inch we have the Trailer Coupler Lock - Gorilla Guard # 63228 that is featured in the video you cited. For 2-5/16 inch we have the Trailer Coupler Lock - Gorilla Guard # 63227.

  • How To Get A Gorilla Grip Trailer Coupler Lock Off When The Keys Are Missing
To get the old Trailer Coupler Lock # 63228 off you're going to need to drill out the lock core to be able to get it to release from the trailer coupler. This won't be a super easy process, but is the only way. There are lubes available for drill bits to help prevent overheating and dulling of the drill bit, so I recommend picking some up from your local hardware store.

  • Selecting a Secure Coupler Lock
The purpose of any lock is to keep honest people honest. If the potential thief is determined, any lock can be eventually defeated. The key is to make defeating the lock as difficult, time consuming and noisy as possible. The design of Gorilla Guard Coupler Lock part # 63228 helps make defeating it more difficult than other locks because the actual locking pin is inaccessible when the lock is in place. The fact that this lock uses a barrel style key instead of a flat key also makes the...

I am sorry Larry we do not. Unfortunately Tow Ready, the company that makes Gorilla Guard locks, does not offer replacement keys. • Which Coupler Lock Would Best Fit my 2-5/16 Inch Coupler with a 3-3/4 Inch Wide Lip
The Gorilla Guard for 2 inch couplers, part # 63228, would be so snug it would not be easy to get on and off, not to mention the curved portion up front may not fit the larger 2-5/16 coupler nose. The Gorilla Guard for 2-5/16 inch couplers, part # 63227, would be a better fit, though it will accept couplers of a greater width than yours, it should not be loose enough that it would not be able to prevent theft. • Are There Replacement Keys for Tow Ready Trailer Coupler Locks
I do have an option for you but we no longer offer replacement keys for Tow Ready products like the Trailer Coupler Lock part # 63228. If you would like to replace the lock in favor of one with replacement keys, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Coupler Lock part # e98893 which you can order multiple of with the same key using the keyed alike option and you can obtain extra or replace the keys if needed. I have included a link for you to the ones that can be ordered keyed alike. A lock such as # e98895 is similar to the Gorilla Guard. You would just select the keyed alike option, near the add to cart button on the product page, select the quantity and they will all be keyed the same.

2-1/8 inch is not a standard hitch ball size. Because of that none of the locks we offer like the part # 63228 are going to fit. You might measure again to see if you happen to have a 2-5/16 inch ball which would mean you would need the # 63227 instead. If you do happen to have a 2 inch ball the part # 63228 would be a fit.
