Lionshead Roadside Assistance Program

This tire-and-wheel assembly comes with complimentary roadside assistance for 2 years. If your RV or trailer has a flat tire, call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico.

1-Year No Excuses Guarantee

This tire has a 1-year No Excuses Guarantee. If within the first 12 months the tire is damaged in any way that's not covered by warranty, it will be replaced at no charge. You will also be compensated a flat labor rate for the cost of mounting the replacement tire.

The Nitrogen Advantage

Nitro Fill Logo

The NitroFill inflation process filters out oxygen to ensure that this tire-and-wheel assembly is filled with 95 to 99.9 percent pure nitrogen. Nitrogen-inflated tires maintain pressure better than tires inflated with standard air. This makes them ideal for RVs and trailers that are driven infrequently or sit in storage for long periods of time. Other benefits of consistent tire pressure are better fuel economy, improved braking and handling, decreased chance of tire failure, and longer tire life.

A tire inflated with standard air, which contains oxygen, is prone to fluctuations in pressure due to loss of air over time and ambient temperature changes. Nitrogen-inflated tires don't experience these fluctuations for a couple reasons. First, nitrogen molecules are larger than oxygen molecules, so they are less likely to permeate a rubber tire. Second, nitrogen is a dry gas, so it won't allow condensation to build inside the tire. A tire inflated with standard air may have moisture in it, which means it is more likely to be affected by ambient temperature.

In addition, the moisture that can collect in a tire inflated with standard air will contribute to corrosion of the wheel and deterioration of the rubber tire from the inside out. A nitrogen-inflated tire-and-wheel assembly is less likely to experience this type of decay. Less moisture in the tire also means reduced running temperatures.

If necessary, you can top off the tire with standard compressed air. But to maintain the benefits of nitrogen, the tire must be refilled with nitrogen.

Steel Lug Nut Inserts

Lionshead Aluminum Wheels with Steel Lug-Nut Inserts

This aluminum wheel comes with steel inserts in the lug nut wells. The inserts are pressed into the aluminum, and they help prevent the holes from wearing down over time. This ensures that the wheel stays secured to your trailer hub and that you won't have to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Westlake Radials

This radial ply tire from Westlake is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester cords for increased durability. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Westlake Standard Tread Close-Up

The standard tread on this tire has solid, continuous ribs, and there are very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. This tire is designed for use on trailers, so it doesn't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

The wheel and tire looked very nice, tell I tried to install them on a new Dexter drum LHAW330 which is a 15'' 6 on 5.5 with 4.25 pilot hole. The first thing that occurred was that the wheel just did not feel wright going on to the lug bolts. Well I thought that there was a little something holding the wheel away from the hub, took it off and did not find anything. Put the wheel back on the lug's and installed the lug nuts. I tried to tighten the lug nuts with an American made 4 point lug wrench. Big problem, there is not sufficient space between the wheel casting and the nut to allow for the lug wrench to turn without chewing off clearcoat and Aluminum. I tried to get the lug nuts tight with a then wall socket, but the nuts did not seat in the wheel the way that it is designed. Needless to say, I need to send the wheel and tire back. But I might add, the service is good with prompt delivery. I also bought the Dexter breaks and drum from Etrailer and they are working out quite well.

  • Will Standard Wheel Lug Wrench Fit Lionshead Trailer Tire and Wheel # LHAW330
You need to use a thinner walled socket if you are running into clearance issues fitting the socket all the way into the cutout for the wheel lugs. I've run into this problem before on a car and it was because I was using a socket with a really thick wall. Going with a more standard size socket/4-way like the # PTW1 would prevent this issue. The wheel part # LHAW330 also does not have a thin and deep cut out for the lugs either. For a standard 1/2" -20 lug nut we have the part # LHLR103...

  • Do Trailer Tires Need to be Balanced
Trailer tires do not need to be balanced for proper performance since their main responsibility is supporting the trailer, not providing a smooth ride. If you want to get them balanced you can, but it is not something that is required. If you do decide to get them balanced it is best to use a pin plate adapter since they are lug-centric. I have attached a helpful article on trailer tires which also includes this information for your reference.

  • How Often Should Trailer Tires Be Replaced?
Your friends are pretty close. We suggest replacing tires every 3-6 years or every 10K-12K miles, which ever comes first. Most trailer tires do not get replaced due to mileage and instead age. If you are using tire guards to protect the tires from UV rays while being stored or storing the tire in a garage it will take a bit longer for dry rot to affect the tire. As soon as you start seeing dry rot you should go ahead and plan on replacing the tire. On the other hand if you do not...

You are correct in your understanding. Some people interchange the word wheel with rim, but they are the same thing and then of course you have tires. Wheels are usually rated for weights as are tires, so combinations that are made on our site will have the lesser capacity of the two for the max capacity. As you stated, each wheel and tire is rated based on just that single side, so you will double that for your axle. You are correct if that surpasses your axle capacity, you will...

  • Aluminum Wheels/Tire Combo to Replace 205/75-15 Tires on Travel Trailer
I don't offer a load range E tire in the 205/75-15 size, but we do in the 225/75-15. A 225/75-15 tire would be one inch wider which would move the inner sidewall of the tire 1/2 inch closer to the trailer. The tire is 1 inch larger in diameter which would raise your travel trailer's ride height by 1/2 inch. If you need a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern wheel, you'll need to purchase the wheel and tires separate as we don't offer a tire in that size mounted to a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern...
