Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

All 4 taskmaster trailer tires (2 from etrailer .com, and 2 replacements directly from the manufacturer) all have cracking on the sidewalls of the tires and cracking /separation where the tread meets the sidewall with only 20 miles on the tires, on a small utility trailer with only a walk behind snowblower on the trailer.. I am out the cost of 2 tires, plus mounting and unmounting costs totaling $50. etrailer.com will not refund because it is now just past the 60 day return window with all this BS.

by:

Right size and rated for 81 mph (printed on tire). I would have given higher rating except that these tires are so smushed flat that they were hard for the tire shop to get seated on the rim and sealed. Other reviews have said the same thing.

by:

I have had these tires on a P/U camper for a year now and I am very satisfied. I have pulled it to Co. from Tx. and have had now issues with them. I like the fact that they are rated at 81MPH and can be pulled safely at 70 to 75 MPH. When purchasing tires it is important that you find a tire to that will preform. You can find tires in this size cheaper at big box stores but you will not have the peace of mind you have with this tire from etrailer. This is the second set of tires that I purchased from etrailer in this load range and speed range. I use my P/U camper a lot. I will continue to purchase from etrailer. I have had no problems with delivery or costumer service. They say what they do and do what they say.

Comments
This tire has performed as advertised. Great tire!! When it comes time to replace I will be using the same tire from etrailer. Customer service is the best. Thank you etrailer. P.S. if you use this tire keep the recommended air pressure 90Psi.

by:

Overall I am happy with my purchase of these tires. I wanted the higher highway speed rating (M 81 mph) and that is what I got. I rate my satisfaction at 85%. Happy with cost. Happy with quicknest of filling my order and arrival time of the tires. A little less than 100% happy because the tires are already a year old (DOT 2619). That's one less year that the comfort zone of a six year tire. I understand LIFO and I can live with it.

by:

At the time of this review the tires have about 900 miles on them. Most of the miles in the 60-70mph range. Purchased these tires for the 81mph speed rating. The 90psi air pressure usually has to be checked and some air added every few weeks.
Over all the tires seem to be very good tires thus far. The previous tires had 7+ years
of service. I am hoping these tires do as well.

Comments
Tires are holding up well. I am very satisfied with the tread wear. Tires are smooth at all speeds.

I haven’t even opened the box yet. But let me tell you WHY I purchased these tires. I’ve had two blowouts on my golf cart trailer. Yes, I run it fast. Usually around 70-75 mph. And these tires are rated at over 81 mph! I’ve got to give them a try.

Comments
Great after 1 Year. Actually, I’ve not given much thought to my trailer tires since I put these on! I guess that says it all.

by:

After one year of use I probably have 3000 miles on these jet ski trailer tires. They were the highest speed rated Tire of the size I could find.

They have done well.

I remember being a little freaked out when I got them in the mail because three of them fit in a box the size of a small slim TV and they look like bicycle tires uninflated. spent an additional $40 having them professionally mounted at a local Goodyear dealer.

by:

These tires have been great. I ordered them for a light weight trailer that I purchased and modified to carry my kayak. I belong to a kayaking group and we go all over Florida to kayak and being able to pull my kayak versus carrying it on the top of my car has been a body ache saver. I would highly recommend getting these tires.

by:

Got these tires for their 81 MPH rating. After about 2000 miles a large patch of rubber separated from the tire. Two weeks later the tire on the other side did the same thing. The Taskmaster rep said I must have hit something that cut the tread but I think the tread separated from the inner ply. Two tires in two weeks with the same problem seems like more than coincidence. Luckily I noticed both holes before they blew out. The third tire of the set I bought from you will never be on the ground. I won't even trust it as a spare.

by:

These tires are for my small utility trailer to replace the original stock tires. Order process was smooth, shipping was quick and packing was great. Will definitely get my next set of tires/wheels from here. Great service.

by:

I called etrailer and ordering these tires was fast and simple. I chose these tires as they have a higher speed rating than other brands of the same size. All three Tires arrived in a large box and I took them down to have them mounted as these size tires are very difficult to mount without an Air Blast nozzle. I watched the guys at the tire shop try to inflate them like a normal Tire and they were having a hard time they broke out a large hose with some type of attachment and held it against the bead and blew air into the tire and then they beaded up. I have not put many miles on the tires so I cannot speak as to the quality and longevity. I was expecting tires made recently however the DOT numbers on the tire indicated they were 2016 so these were two years old already upon arrival.

by:

Seems like a good product. Came way over packaged but arrived in good shape. I gave 4 stars because its hard to rate something that I haven't had time to truly test out. In 3 to 5 years I can give a full honest review of the tires. Until then u can only give 4 stars.

by:

Very good value. Broke Springs on a small center console tender trailer, thought OH boy how am I gonna find parts for this. Searched on-line. Found etrailer and BAM = problem solved. Got springs, shackles, bolts, even an entire spare and tire for a couple hundred bucks and THEY ALL FIT and at least as good quality as the thing was build with. Excellent and pretty quick shipping and delivery for heavy stuff.

by:

The only complaint that I have, is how the tires were packaged and shipped, leaving the tires hard to get the bead to seal to the wheel.

by:

Love etrailer! AFFORDABLE PRICES, quality merchandise. Fast shipping. Basically have everything you need and more. A great place to shop.

by:

Customer service was awesome. I can say enough great things. Cathy, my representative, made the purchasing process extremely easy. I even messed up the first order and she sent the new tires quickly. Etrailer is great

by:

Purchesed as a replacement tire. Works and fits great. Would recommend this product to others.

Comments
Great product. Have not had any problems with it.

by:

So far I’ve been very happy with this set of tires. I purchased them because of the higher speed rating over similar sized tires. They have about 1500 miles on them so far and seem to be wearing well.

by:

These tires have not gotten much use in the past year. That said they were used on long trips 600 + miles and preformed very well at highway speeds 70-75 mph with no problems.

by:

The tires look to be very High Quality and should do a excellent job in handling the load needs of my trailer.

by:

Pay the extra and get the Taskmaster radials of the same size.

by:

Price was excellent. Product was as advertised and shipping was VERY fast. All in all an excellent purchase.

by:

Great tire. Runs smooth and true, NO problems of any type.

by:

Just what I ordered. Hopefully I will not need the spare soon.

by:

Fast shipping tires where as expected

  • Does Speed Rating M on Trailer Tire Always Mean 81 MPH?
The speed rating M on trailer tires like the Taskmaster 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range C # TTWSF48012C you were looking at will always mean 81MPH as the speed ratings are standardized. I included a video of the # TTWSF48012C for you to take a look at.

  • Troubleshooting Tire Going Flat on Passenger Side of Utility Trailer
Based on what you are describing, it doesn't sound like you have a problem with the capacity of your tire. Since it is only on the one side and continues to go flat, I would start by checking for a leak. It is also possible that you have a bent spindle, or damage to the wheel which could cause this issue. Also, make sure when you inflate the tires that you are using the max psi. If you don't know what you are looking for, I recommend taking the trailer to a professional to let them check. I...

This would be the best solution available for increasing the speed rating of your trailer. • Trailer Tire Recommendation for Size 4.80-12 that Can do Highway Speeds
I do have a great solution for you, but if you exceed the speed rating of a trailer tire it will get too hot and will very easily fail. I can't safely recommend you exceed the speed rating of your tire by 10 mph for 200 miles. Instead the tire part # TTWSF48012C is a 4.80-/4.00-12 tire like you need but with an 81 mph speed rating. This will easily let you cruise at 70 mph.

  • Trailer Tire in Size 4.80-12 that is Rated for 75 MPH
In the tire size of 4.80-12 we have one tire that is rated for up to 81 mph, part # TTWSF48012C. Most are only rated for 65 and we wouldn't be able to recommend you exceeding that. What you'd want to do is check the sidewall of the tire for the speed rating. If you need to go 75 and your tire says lower you'd have to get the part # TTWSF48012C.

  • Recommended Replacement Trailer Tires Size 4.80-12 on Boat Trailer
It is recommended to replace both tires on the same axle at the same time. This is due to wear patterns on the tires. You should always use tires of the same size, load range, and construction on a trailer. If you use tires that don't match, you could experience problems of overloading and overheating, which can lead to tire failure. I do not recommend using the size 5.30-12 tire on your trailer. • Would the Taskmaster Tires TTWSF48012C Have Enough Tire Capacity for a 1,500 lb Trailer
Based on tire capacity alone, yes with two of the # TTWSF48012C you would have 1,800 lbs of tire capacity so a 1,500 lb trailer would be no problem at all. You will need to make sure the tires are inflated to their 90 psi max capacity to ensure that you get the full capacity. You will need to be sure your trailer has enough capacity as well. Their should be a plate up near the coupler that states the overall capacities.

If the sidewall of your 4.80-12 size tires say 90 psi then that is what you want them to be when the tires are cold (after they have been sitting for a while like overnight). This is the psi rating that the manufacturer has tested and approved to be safe with the weight rating that is listed on the tire.
