Beveled Stud Holes

The stud holes on this steel wheel are beveled to ensure that the wheel stays tight against your trailer hub. This also eliminates the need to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Review of Taskmaster Trailer Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - TA42FR

Hello everybody, This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Taskmaster ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire in a Load Range D mounted on this 15 inch White Modular Steel Trailer Wheel with the 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this tire-and-wheel assembly is ideal for boat trailers, stock trailers, utility trailers, and even campers. The wheel is a nice steel wheel, has the modular design, when we say modular design, that's the one that has the round holes all the way around the wheel. This wheel is very sturdy and corrosion resistant, and the wheel does go through a three step finishing process, which first includes zinc phosphate bath, than an e-coat primer, and they do a nice white powder coat on the outside of the wheel, and on the inside, they lightly e-coat it to help reduce friction, provide rust resistance. Now, this wheel does use the ITR technology, I wanna zoom in and show you, that stands for Improved Torque Retention, and it's designed to help keep your wheel securely in place on your trailer, and the way they do that is right here on these lug nut holes.

They use uncoated stud holes, which are beveled, to give you better clamp force retention when you're tightening your lug nuts to the wheel. Now, the tire on this is a bias ply tire, it is constructed with strong nylon cords, so it is great for low speed applications like off-road and agricultural use. This tire-and-wheel assembly does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation Specifications, and it does exceed the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Gonna go through a few specs on this, we'll start with the wheel. The diameter on the wheel measured inside to inside is 15 inches, the width on just the wheel by itself is six inches wide.

This wheel does have a bolt pattern of 6 on 5 1/2 inches, and if you wanna measure that bolt pattern on a wheel like this, it's pretty easy, 'cause it's an even number of lugs, because in that case, you have the lug holes right across from each other. So you just pick any hole, let's say this one, then you measure from the center of this lug hole to the center of the hole right across from it. So on this wheel, I measured 5 1/2 inches, so it's a 6 lug, 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern. This does use a wheel lug size of 1/2 inch by 20. The weight capacity on just the wheel by itself is 2,830 pounds.

The hole here, this is the pilot hole that goes over the hub on your trailer, diameter of this opening is 4.25 inches. Now, if you noticed, this wheel does not come with a center cap, if you do want one for a finished look, we do sell those separately, you just wanna make sure to buy a center cap that has a 4.25 diameter. Now, the tire size on this will be stamped on the sidewall, ST for special trailer, 225/75D15, the D stands for diagonal belt, which means it's a bias ply tire. Section width 8.8 inches, overall diameter from the bottom to the top when it's inflated is 28.3, and the tire capacity, this is a Load Range D, which means it's an eight ply rated tire, so it has a maximum load capacity of 2,540 pounds at 65 psi. And the last thing I do wanna mention on the new trailer tires, they're all coming with a speed rating now, and they stamp it on the sidewall.

And on this tire, it's right here by the rim or by the wheel. You see a letter M, they designate the speed rating by a letter designation, so this one says speed rating M, which means 81 miles per hour. But that should do it for the review on the Taskmaster ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire in a Load Range D on this 15 inch White Modular Steel Trailer Wheel with the 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern..

  • Trailer Wheel/Tire Recommendation w Higher Speed Rating ST225/75R15 and 6 on 5-1/2 in Bolt Pattern
I have a great solution for you, but the Karrier Wheel and Tire part # AM32673 that you referenced is rated for 65 mph. The best solution would be the Taskmaster wheel and tire part # TA42FR which has a 81 mph speed rating. This matches the wheel you mentioned in every other regard. Same size, same bolt pattern and same style white wheel. Radial tires are preferred over bias-ply. A radial tire flexes more than a bias tire, giving it better ground contact, traction, stability, and tread...

  • Spare Tire/Wheel Recommendations for a Trailer with 225/75-15
For just a tire I would recommend the part # TTWTRTM2257515D as it has the same 225/75R15 tire size. For a wheel and tire with a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern you would want the part # TA42FR , or for a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern part # AM32459.

  • Recommended Spindle, Idler Hub, Wheels and Tires For Homemade Cart Trailer Off Road Use Only
We have the #42 Spindle # TRU57FR that you can weld to your trailer. It is a 2-1/4" round stub as we do not have any square stub spindles that are rated for over 2,500lbs per spindle. With these spindles you can use the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-655-6-K since you do not need a braking hub. The hub is 6 on 5-1/2" as the 5 lug wheels are not strong enough for the 10,000lb capacity that you are needing. The Taskmaster ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire with 15" White Mod Wheel # TA42FR...

  • Recommended Off-Road Wheels and Tires for Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension
Thanks for the purchase of the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - 4" Lift Spindle - Off-Road Tires - 3,500 lbs # ASR35HDS02 with the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-201-9UC3-EZ which will be a great addition for your trailer; we definitely have wheels and tires that will be a perfect match. You will need a wheel with a matching 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern and I also recommend going with a bias tire because they have stiffer sidewalls than radial tires, meaning it...
