Standard Trailer Tire Tread

Contender Tire Tread

The standard tread on these tires has solid, continuous ribs, and it has very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. These tires are designed for use on trailers, so they don't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Contender radials have double polyester cords and double steel belts. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Just put four on my 1996 Carrie Lite fifth wheel tires look great hope they wear well. Four stars because they I have not pulled the camper with them yet.

Possibly the best trailer tires I have ever owned ! After having multiple tire problems on all 3 of my trailers , my cousin told me to try the contender . He has used for a couple with no failures. I haven't had a single issue in the past year. Etrailer had the best price and shipping after hours of research.

These contender trailer tires are by far the best trailer tires I have ever owned . Not a single failure and great durability. Only trailer tire I will ever buy .
Jerry W - 06/29/2021

I ordered tires for my RV using the Website, the tires were not available from the distribution centre at that time, Ricky ( e-Trailer Rep) called and gave me some options in a timely manner. Got the tires in my garage a week later than the original delivery date, I liked that they were individually boxed. Great job and thanks for being on top of my order. Exactly what I ordered - no issues.

Tires were an excellent replacement from my original tires - no comparison. My trailer is 10,500 lbs and the wear rate looks good so far.
Mike - 08/04/2019

For several years now the tires that I bought for this trailer really did not perform the way I expected the trailer tires that you have provided for me with the E rating have been giving me the performance and ware that I needed my trailers all hold quite a bit of weight and require the load rate and performance that these tires exhibit

I blew a tire on my 5th wheel trailer coming home last fall. These were recommended to me as a replacement but they only had two available at the time. Once back on the highway I noticed right away the trailer handled much better and smother. Come spring I could not find these tires available locally without paying an arm and leg for them.
I found these on line and purchased another pair. I look forward to be on the road again and seeing what four will do in handling.
Service was great through etrailer and will recommend them in the future

No complaints on these tires. Very good price & good quality. I will buy more when the time comes!

I've had these on my camper over a year now and they are wearing great. I will buy more of these for other trailers I have.

These tires solved my problem.Good tires and no problem yet.I may have 1800 miles on them now.

Hey, I leave my tractor & bush hog loaded on my trailer weeks at a time and when I decide to go work the unit there is no flat spot on the tires. Now that works for me.
Bickham - 10/03/2021

I now have 4 of these tires for my stock trailer. They are easy to balance and have a smooth feel on the road.

I’m very happy with these tires! I just put them on my trailer. etrailer had the best price and they were delivered in a very timely manner. I can’t wait to get my trailer on the road and break these tires in.

Tires arrived in a matter of days. Now they are at shop getting mounted. Happy so far only complaint is with the delivery they were dropped in my carport and no door knock or ringing of doorbell(with name on it) as I was at home. Overall good service.

Ordered the tires on line and got them quickly considering all the shipping and delivery delays with the COVID situation. Tires are of good quality and at a fair price.

Tire arrived in great shape and shipping was fast. Great customer service at etrailer! Would buy from here again!

Tires appear to be good quality will be mounted Saturday. Were shipped right away but UPS had weather issues order delayed. Will be ordering 4 more tires in the near future.

Thanks to Etrailer for fast delivery. I have used these tires on my trailer for a year. Every day they were subjected to severe loads in the mountains and on difficult terrain. I forgot what is a tire service. This is the best product I have used

Tires look good, balanced easily and appear to be very good quality. Delivered on time and the price was great. Very easy to deal with and to get follow up shipping info. Product shipped same day. Wonderful experience!!

GREAT! Tires arrived on time and packaged well. Several thousand miles on them now and still turning smoothly with no vibrations. Comfortable running high speed long distances. Will be getting another set for different trailer soon.
Walter C - 07/24/2020

Received tires very timely. They are excellent in appearance. Have not used them yet; just mounted them today. Expect they will provide excellent service, as has been my experience will all items I have purchased from eTrailer.

Service from etrailer is great but ups seems to always separate my tires I order no matter where I order from got 3 today no telling where the fourth is.

Everything came within the time specified. I was missing 1 item and I called and they sent new one within days not weeks. I will definitely use etrailer again.

So far so good. After 2000 miles. Sturdy tires! Hauling 5K jeep on 7K trailer.

Timely delivery and at a decent price

  • Do I Need to Balance the Tires on My Livestock Trailer
Because trailer tires like the Contender ST225/75R15 Radial Tire # C22515E are designed more with carrying a vertical load in mind, as opposed to gripping the road through turns as an automobile tire would, dynamic balancing of your trailer tires isn't a huge concern. Steering and cornering are of much less concern with a trailer than they are with an automobile. With that being said, you can have your trailer tires balanced if you desire. Wheel and tire combinations like the ST 225/75r15...

  • Where Are Contender Trailer Tires Manufactured
The Contender # C22515E is manufactured in China, as are most tires these days. Even though they are not made in the USA, they are a great tire with great reviews. We use to carry Goodyear tires that are made in the USA but the range of available sizes has gotten smaller and smaller.

The Contender ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 15" White Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range E # TA47FR you were looking at is one tire and one wheel. If you were needing four tires and wheels you would need a quantity of four. Since you mentioned only tires, if you do not need the wheels you can purchase the tire separately using # C22515E which will be a bit more cost effective. I included a video of the # C22515E for you to take a look at.

  • PSI for ST225/75R15 Load Range E Trailer Tire
For a load range E trailer tire like the Contender ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # C22515E, we normally recommend inflating them to the maximum cold psi, which on this tire is 80, like you mentioned, as this will give you the best performance, allowing the tire to wear slower and more evenly. The 65 psi you mentioned was almost certainly the suggested psi for the Load Range D tires so it wouldn't be a suggestion for load range E tires necessarily. That said, since your tires are overrated...

  • How to Select Correct Replacement Tires for Horse Trailer
There are 2 things you need to look at when choosing a replacement tire. The first is your old trailer tire size (can be found on the tire sidewall), and the second is the weight capacity of your horse trailer. For the example, the Contender Radial Trailer Tire # C22515E that you referenced has a size ST225/75R15 and a load range E which is 2,830 lbs at 80 psi. This means that when this tire is mounted on a axle you count the weight capacity twice so you'd have 5,660 lbs of weight capacity....

The Contender ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # C22515E is a great trailer tire that I would recommend highly for your 1976 camper as long as this is the correct size you'd need. Assuming it's correct size replacement it's a really great tire all around. It has a higher speed rating at 81 mph, is a radial which means it'll be more stable and run cooler and also has a 2 year warranty.

  • How to Choose Correct Tires for Carrying a 9,200 lb Formula 33 Boat

For example, the Endurance ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # 724857519 has a load range E which is 2,830 lbs at 80 psi. Since you have a triple axle trailer you simply need to multiply the weight capacity by 6 to get the combined weight rating and then make sure it meets or exceeds the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of your trailer. For this tire the combined weight rating is 16,980 lbs for the singles...
