Standard Trailer Tire Tread

Contender Tire Tread

The standard tread on these tires has solid, continuous ribs, and it has very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. These tires are designed for use on trailers, so they don't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Contender radials have double polyester cords and double steel belts. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

So far so good, but to be fair I have only installed them, so they look nice. Lol. The old tires were trail America, and two dry rotted and went flat while in winter hibernation. I bought 4 new from etrailer and will do a follow up l after camping season starts in a month here. So the Whitehawk has 4 new sneakers on, ready to go. One negative was not etrailer's fault, which was 1 of 2 packages getting stuck in PA due to snowstorm. The only negative on etrailer that lost this a star was that the site did not mention the tires were out of stock at the time of order, and still allowed me to place the order. Had I been in a rush for these, I would have been angry as I could have chosen a different tire. Otherwise, a good experiance.

I bought 3 of these tires for a bass boat trailer. Two to use and one spare. They ride smooth and seem to wear evenly. I am very satisfied with the quality, price, and customer service at etrailer.com.

While on the way to the beach with my family (a Thursday around 5:30 eastern time) we had a blowout. While waiting for roadside assistance, I ordered these tires from eTrailer. The reviews of the tires were great, and I spoke with a representative to get confirmation that they would work for my application. I placed the order and they were expected to arrive The following Wednesday. To my surprise they arrived one day early. I installed the tires and have only towed the trailer a few miles, however and they seem to be performing flawlessly. I cannot recommend eTrailer enough. Their prices are fair, their customer service is fantastic, and they're shipping is fantastic. A five star company through and through.

We ordered 5 Contender ST 205/75R14 Load Range C tires and two pair of Camco Vinyl tire protectors for our new tires. Everything arrived in 4 days in perfect condition and the the delivery was FREE. Although we haven't had the tires put on yet, we are trusting they will meet our need for towing our trailer. Great work etrailer.com.

Very happy with the tires!!! I put them on my car hauler trailer. I will be needing 2 more in the future. I was so happy to see them shipped in boxes. Usually they are wrapped and the beads get pressed together making them very hard to mount!!! The tires I got from you, shipped the way you do, mounted easy as pie. As always, it was a pleasure doing business with you. Everything I have gotten from you has been perfect. The service as always was great, very happy!!!

I can't really speak to the performance of the tire at this point, but the transaction with etrailer was great as always. The tire came in a box and arrived in pristine condition. Communication with etrailer about the order placement and shipping was flawless. I'd go on more about how great etrailer is but it would seem like a bogus review.

A really nice tire at a great price. Open grove tread to let all the mud out before you get to your nice driveway. I bought 2. Will buy a 3rd for the spare. (I foregot) My mechanic is impressed by the trailer tire.

Tires Look good, appears to be of good quality. Have not put on boat trailer yet so I really don't know how they will hold up. Doubt that I will wear them out, since the boat is used about once a week during the summer. The old tires (not the same brand) dry rotted after some years of service.

  • Replacement Tires for 2006 Fleetwood Pop-Up Camper
According to my research, your 2006 Fleetwood Pop-Up Camper has 205/75-14 tires. If that is the case then I recommend the Contender ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire part # C20514C for replacement as this is a great middle of the road option that offers exceptional performance without breaking the bank. It has a radial ply which is an upgrade that will be best for highway use and it comes with an 81 mph speed rating. The Contender tires also comes with a two year warranty.

Yes. The Contender ST205/75r14 Radial Tires # C20514C are also a 6 ply, Load Range C tire of the same size and will work well as a replacement for your existing Ranier tires with the same dimensions and specs. These tires have a maximum load of 1760-lbs (per tire) and should be filled to 50psi when cold to provide you with the maximum capacity and durability.

  • Selecting Trailer Tires to Avoid Blowouts During Freeway Driving
Trailer tire failure usually comes from heat, and excessive heat in a tire can arise from several potential causes. One is inflation; a tire that is under- or over-inflated will build up more internal heat. A second common cause is overloading the tire with more weight than it can handle. The third common cause for tire failure is operating the tire above its speed rating. This too will cause heat build up that can lead to premature failure. Special trailer (ST type) tires should...

  • How to Pick the Correct Tire Size for Trailer
We can help you choose new tires, though their size is not determined by your trailer size. To get the correct tire you need to know the diameter of your wheel. I have attached a link to our page with our selection of tires, so once you measure your wheel you can find the tires that fit. The load range of a tire will be the capacity you need, and you can choose between bias tires, which are better for off-road or agricultural applications, or radial tires, which are better for highway driving.

  • Should I Change From ST205/75-D14 to ST205/75-R14 Tires On a Trailer
Correct, a 205/75-R14 trailer tire will be better in most areas than a 205/75-D14 trailer tire. The "R" stands for radial which is best for use on the highway and the "D" stands for bias which is best for use off-road. For a radial ply replacement, I recommend the Contender Radial Trailer Tire part # C20514C which is a great middle of the road option that will allow you to travel at speeds up to 81 mph and it comes with a two year warranty.

  • Replacing 205/75-14 Trailer Tires Prone To Blow Outs
For starters, there are several things that can cause a blowout such as incorrect tire inflation, exceeding speed ratings, and as you mentioned overloading. That said, overloading is one of the less understood causes. I understand how you could think the tires are not rated high enough as many do but what is failed to be realized here is that the tire's capacity won't exceed the total weight of the trailer. The reason for this is because the vehicle holds around 10-15% of the trailer's...

To determine if she can use the larger tire you'll need to do a little measuring. You want to have at least 3 inches between the tread and underside of the fender as well as 2 inches or so between the tire's sidewall and the inside of the wheel well.
