Durable, Corrosion-Resistant PVD Finish Is Environmentally Friendly

Closeup of Silver PVD Finish

The highly corrosion-resistant finish on this steel wheel is applied through a physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating process. This process occurs in a vacuum environment so that the aluminum coating binds to the steel at a molecular level. As a result, the coating is harder, more durable, and more wear resistant than chrome plating.

Compared to hexavalent and trivalent chrome plating methods, the PVD process creates a finish that withstands the effects of water, flying debris, and other elements for a longer period of time. The aluminum-coated wheels performed for more than 168 hours in salt spray tests, up to 500 hours in water immersion tests, and up to 40 lbs in impact-resistance tests. They won't pit or peel like chrome-plated wheels, and they resist the effects of any chemicals that may be on the road, such as magnesium chloride or salt during icy or snowy weather.

In addition, the PVD coating process is an eco-friendly alternative to chrome plating, which is extremely toxic to the environment.

Improved Torque Retention Technology

Beveled Stud Holes Front and Back

The automotive-rated center disc is raised and the stud holes are beveled and uncoated for better clamp force retention. This technology helps the wheel stay tight against your hub without the need for constant retightening.

Provider Radials with Automotive-Grade Tread

Provider Tread Vs Standard Tread

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the automotive-grade tread on these Provider radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Provider tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Provider radials are constructed with double polyester cords and double steel belts for increased durability and endurance. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation. Provider radials are bake tested - a process usually reserved for automotive tires - to ensure that the rubber holds up over time.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Just picked up a very nice used snowmobile trailer but it needed tires and the rims were pretty rusty. Riding season is very short and I don't want to worry about my trailer tires or the integrity of the rims. The quality of this rim/tire combo is excellent and I'm very confident it will stand up to the punishment of salty roads.

Hello, This is my one year follow-up after my purchase of a set of Provider ST175/80R13 Radial Tires w/ 13" Steel Mod Wheels in the Silver PVD Finish. The wheels were an excellent purchase that replaced some old mismatched tires on our Tracker PT185 boat trailer. Over last summer, we put well over 1500 miles on our local fishing trips around Wisconsin and the tires were great! Absolutely no problems yet. The silver wheels have held up great and look good as well. This was a good purchase for us.

Hello - its been another year and here is a follow-up from our purchase of the Provider ST17580R13 Radial Tires w 13 Steel Mod Wheels in the Silver PVD Finish. The tires have been working great on our boat trailer - absolutely no problems. Again, we have put in numerous miles around the state on all types of roads in our fishing trips and the tires have served their purpose. Im so glad we purchased these tires. The peace of mind knowing that I have quality tires and rims makes all the difference.

Fast delivery. just received today looks to be as ordered. I have always had a great experience with these folks.

Great product! & great service from etr ailer!

I have purchased tires here before and liked them, except for the made in CHINA part. Until tires are made in the U. S. A. again, you buy what you can find. I will continue to buy tires and wheels here. Repeat buyers, I think, are the best review you can have.

I purchased this wheel as a spare for my new motorcycle trailer, and will now purchase another, and use my originals (with a ton of weight and not true) as a spare. Best price and quality. Was balanced, without a ton of weights and true unlike competitors or the the original wheels that came on my trailer.

I was able to purchase the exact same OEM wheels and tires from etrailer.com for $40.00 less each than from the trailer factory. Same product, same quality, better price! I received it in three days and could not be happier with the transaction.

Awesome product at a fair price with great service

These tires and chrome wheels look great on the boat trailer. The delivery was quick and they where packaged very nicely. The price was good also.

It took a little while finding that I was looking for on you're web site, but when I did everything else was easy. Ordered a tire and rim, I have never received anything that was packed as well as it was, excellent job.

Bought tire and rim for a spare on my Boat trailer, havent had to use it but its still holding air, so all is good.

I purchased the wheel to be used as a spare. I can say that the finish is beautiful and the quick shipping was unbelievably fast. No surprise though since the service at etrailer is always first class all the way.

Tires and wheels as described. Quick shipping, great service. Easy peasy!!

Shipping was super fast and received it mint condition. The prices were hard to beat! I needed a spare tire because my new boat didn't come with one. I have already suggested etrailer.com to some friends. Only suggestion would be to match the manufacturers wheels a little more closely. But, all in all, I would definately buy from etrailer again without hesitation!

Works perfect

Easy and informative shopping, super fast shipping... Product arrived quick and it looks great !!

excellent fit, for 2000 shorelander tra iler.,

Great product

Very nice tire, I have two tires on the boat and one spire, very good looking tire and wheel.

as always excellent service and quality merchandise

Excellent product fast shipping. Even though it is make in China I think it is a good product.

Review from a similar Provider PVD in Trailer Tires and Wheels

I ordered these tire and wheel combo’s and was surprised how quick they were delivered! This was a great upgrade for my trailer, the wheels look great and the tires are a couple sizes larger than the originals. Very happy with this purchase!!

Review from a similar Provider PVD in Trailer Tires and Wheels

Ordered five of these tire/wheel combo online and they were delivered relatively quickly straight to my driveway--overall not a bad process. Replaced all of the wheels on my 40' fifth-wheel (including the spare) after having three separate blowouts on the load range E tires that came with it from the factory (ridiculous). I was worried about fit since these are 235/85R16 and the factory wheels were 235/80R16. Turns out there was nothing to worry about--they look great and fit perfectly. Now I have the peace of mind that comes with a load range G wheel/tire and it didn't break the bank. The first long trip of the season is next week so I'll update this post if anything changes but I suspect things will go great.

So its been about a year since I bought these tires and I couldnt be happier. Weve been on several trips and the peace of mind that comes with these tires was worth every penny. It is to the point where I dont think twice about it anymore I simply check the pressure and lug nut toques and then get on the road. I highly recommend them.
Chester - 05/20/2018

Well-into year two and still LOVE these tires! Just got back from a long road trip and have another planned in July, and still couldnt be happier. Definitely worth every penny.

This is one of the best deals out there. These wheels and tires are a great buy and exceed the manufacturers specs. You may find cheaper wheels and tires, but you won't find better. Adam H.

Some of the best tires I have had!

  • Are the Available Tire and Wheel Combos Machined Balanced
The tire and wheel combinations we currently carry like the Provider # A13RSMPVD are not machine balanced. However, our tire manufacturers do line up the light spot on the tire with the heavy spot on the wheel. This is a type of balancing but a bit different from how car tires are balanced, with weights on a balancing machine. If you wish to have the tire and wheel balanced, a local tire shop should be able to do this for you. This is not required and the tire and wheel will work great...

  • How to Properly Inflate a Trailer Tire to Maximum Air Pressure
As you mentioned in your question, tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi rating as listed on the tire's side wall. An underinflated tire can lead to the sidewall of the tire heating up, which may ultimately cause the tire to fail. You should always inflate your tires to their maximum air pressure when they are cold. The small increase in psi as they warm up on the road is expected...

Your current 175/80-13 tires are 24 inches in diameter. Swapping to a 14 inch wheel using a tire size like a 205/75-14 would move the tire 1 inch closer to the fender. We like to see 3-4 inches of clearance between the top of the tire and the underside of the fender while the trailer is under load. If the larger tire would put you any closer than that, you'd be best off staying with your original tire size. If you decide to stay with the 175/80-13 tires, I'd recommend using the Taskmaster...
