Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Kenda Karrier ST145R12 S-Trail radial trailer tire in a load range D, and it's mounted on the 12 inch, gun metal aluminum trailer wheel, with a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this tire and wheel assembly is ideal for stock trailers, utility trailers, and even campers. The wheel, you can see, is a nice gun metal 5-spoke aluminum AM02 series wheel. As you notice, has a machine face and a lip, and it's durable, lightweight, rust proof.
If you notice, the front has a clear coat finish on it and the back even has a clear coat, protects the wheel from any scuffs or scratches. The nice feature I like on this wheel is the steel inserts right here in the lug nut wells. These are designed to help keep your wheel securely in place on your trailer hub. Basically, when you go to install this wheel and you put your lug nuts in there and torque 'em down, these steel inserts prevent holes from wearing down or elongating, eliminates the need for a constant retightening of your lug nuts. Now the wheel itself, the diameter is 12 inches.
The width on just the wheel is four inches wide. This wheel does have a bolt pattern of 5 on 4 1/2 inches. And if you want to measure that on a wheel that's an odd number of lugs, like in this case, five, what you'll do is pick any hole, let's say this one, and then you're gonna measure across to either one of these holes. But the trick is you measure from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of whichever hole you measure to. On this one, it'll measure 4 1/2 inches.
So that's telling you this is a five-lug 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Does use a wheel lug size of 1/2 inch by 20. And the weight capacity on just the wheel is 1,520 pounds. Now if you notice this wheel does not have a center cap. We do sell those separately, if you do want one.
You do wanna make sure to get a center cap that'll have the same diameter of the pilot hole right here, which is 3.19 inches. Now this tire that's mounted on it, it is a Kenda Karrier S-Trail radial tire, uses double steel belts, full nylon plies, which combine for superior function and long life. And if you look at the tread on this, it is a computer-generated tread design. And they use premium rubber compound materials that'll give you superior traction on wet or dry conditions. The tire is an ST tire, which means special trailer tire, so it does have the sturdy sidewall so they could handle heavy loads, and it is created specifically for trailers, not intended for use on other vehicles. The tire size which will be stamped on the sidewall, ST again for special trailer, 145R12, R means it's a radial. Section width, 5.8 inches. Overall diameter from the bottom to the top when it's inflated, it's 21.4. And this tire is a load range D, which means it's an eight-ply rated tire. So it does have a maximum load capacity of 1,220 pounds at 65 PSI. And one of the last things I wanna mention to you is they do do a speed rating now on these trailer tires, and it is stamped on the sidewall, but it is a letter designation. And the way you'll find that is right down here where the tire size is listed. Right after it, you'll see a number for the load index, and then you'll see the letter M stamped there. Speed rating M means it's an 81 mile per hour speed rating. Now this tower wheel assembly does meet the Department of Transportation specifications. But that's gonna do it for a look at the Kenda Karrier ST145R12 S-Trail radial trailer tire in a mode range D on this 12 inch gun metal aluminum trailer wheel.
