Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

Very happy with my tire purchase. It was great having them pre-mounted! Extremely fast ship. About 36 hours once the item was back in stock. I’ll purchase tires from eTrailer again.

Purchased 2 tires for my trailer. Shipping was fast just in time to install them on my pop up for a trip up north to Lake Isabella . Drove there no problem and at the camp site the dirt roads are all full of rocks ,cracks , dips , wash outs and the tires held up great . Drove home no problems either . I seriously love the look of the tires and thr handling was smooth . Attached are pictures of my old tires and the new ones . Thanks for another great product .

Amazing. I usually only feel comfortable buying on e-bay, after reading reviews was a little skeptical how there could possibly be so many high reviews but decided to give etrailer a try for a pair of trailer wheels and tires. Made order on Monday at 5 pm. received e-mail immediately that order was received and by 10 pm. another e-mail to inform me that order was shipped with a tracking number. Was very interesting to track my order and see it making it's way to our destination in Florida. Arrived just as informed at 4 pm. on Thursday. Items were exactly as described. Very pleased. 5 star for sure

my choice for selecting etrailer for purchasing this specific tire/rim was the attractive pricing compared to other Vender offers. I'm glad I ordered through etrailer; the product was shipped within a couple of days and is a complete match with the already mounted tires on a Golf Course Beverage cart.

Used these to replace tires/wheels on a 1985 Coleman Pop up camper. Price was great for wheel/tire combo. I have used them recently on an 8hr trip each way. Towed at 65mph on the highway, lots of back roads mixed in. Towed great, no sway. Never got too hot. Hopeful that they'll last well with minimal issues. As always great service from etrailer, quick shipping.

We had bought 2 tires to replace the old dry rotted ones from a Coleman Laramie pop up camper we bought. Searched on the internet to determine what to buy and this website came up with advice for another customer and it worked out awesome for us. I just purchased another one to use for the spare tire. The company followed up with us letting us know when our tires had shipped and when they should be delivered, GREAT customer service.

Exactly what I needed for my popup camper. Though I don't overload "too" much these tires but the load rating gives me that piece of mind. Price was lowest I could find with shipping coasts included. Extremely happy with purchase. Great company!! Fast shipping. Thanks a lot. I placed just under 3500 miles on them last year and feel they will last at least 10 years before I replace for safety purposes. Again just used seasonally.

  • Recommended Tires and Wheels To Replace 20.5x8.0-10 Tires On 1974 Apache Roamer
To replace the wheels and 20.5x8.0-10 tires on your 1974 Apache Roamer I recommend the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range B # AM3H410 which will be nearly the same size as this tire is 20.8" tall and 8.3" wide. This wheel uses the 4 on 4" bolt pattern, so I recommend measuring the bolt pattern on your current wheels using the included help article to make sure you have the 4 on 4" bolt pattern. Some older trailers use a different 4 bolt...

The modern day equivalent tire size you need is a 205/65-10 as they do not make the 20.5x8-10/20x8-10 size you are looking for. I am not sure how much your camper weighs but the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel part # AM3H410 is a good choice so long as the total weight does not exceed 1,320 lbs multiplied by the number of tires you have. If it does then you will need to take a look through our other options which I have attached for you.

  • 12 inch Wheel and Tire Recommendation to Replace a 20.5x8x10 Wheel and Tire
Your current tires have an overall diameter of 20.5 inches so to go up to a 145/80-12 tire size will give you additional diameter of .8 inches. For a wheel and tire in this size that has a radial tire on it you would want the part # AM31208. This has the same 4 bolt pattern you have as well. I attached a review video for you to check out as well.

You are correct. The tire that is included with the Kenda Tire/Wheel Combo, part # AM3H410 should be inflated to 70 psi. At the maximum air pressure, the tires will perform and wear best, and get the best gas mileage. If a trailer tire is inflated to a lower air pressure than the maximum, the amount of weight that the tire can carry will be reduced. If a heavier load is put on the trailer tire than what is recommended for that air pressure, the sidewall of the tire could heat up and...
