Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Perfect tire/wheel combo for my snowmobile trailer. I will mount this one as a spare. Very speedy order picking & shipping, I got this item 2 days after ordering it. The price was fair & the shipping was free!!!

Product and service brilliant.
the big things in service have been sorted, eg. good product, value for money (not cheapest) delivered in good condition in a predicted timeframe, it's the little things like an email with tracking url that has ALL the information you need... WITHOUT HAVE TO TYPE IN A TRACKING NUMBER , NAME, ZIP ETC. And same with review, click on a url in an email and enter your comments with pictures .....SIMPLE. so many other companies just make these types of things too complicated and onerous for the customer to provide feedback. Also each person in the process is named! Brilliant, personal and just nice. I wish you guys were responsible for all of my transactions for all the things I buy online. Thank you to all of you at etrailer fantastic job.

theses have been really good tires and would recommend them

They sent me the wrong size tire. I thought I ordered the wrong size. They corrected me and told me it was their fault. They immediately sent me the proper sized tire and a return label for the tire I had received. The customer service rep was amazing. I never expected that kind of service. Thank you guys so much.

Exactly what I wanted. Ready to go with air.

Good looking tire. Fast delivery. We will see how they hold up. Big improvement from the old tires. Nice wide tire should handle the weight and the wear and tear. And be nice to the turf....

This is a great tire. This will be the 2nd set I have bought for another trailer of mine. The the way it looks and nice tread design.

excellent product . delivered ahead of schedule. very friendly and helpful customer service agent when I called in to order my new tires.

The tires were delivered on time and as described. They fit well on my 2005 Club Car Precedent Golf Cart.

I tried them front and back and there was no clearance problem. I've mounted the tires to ensure maximum traction. When I'm ready to replace more tires, is where I will go.

They provide excellent service and backup.

Absolutely great!

The 4 tires and wheels are a great fit for the Club Car golf cart. Made a big difference in the ride and steering.

All is good, Galvanized wheels are great for Florida environment.

Love these wheel and tire combo.Brought these for my boat trailer. No more trailer sway, these are solid quality wheels.

These wheels and tire do not come balanced but that is no big deal. I am using them on A $X* utility trailer that sets in the weather. These are a good quality wheel and tire combo that work very well for my application. Quick and easy to install.

Nice tire. Good replacement for my trailer. Especially like the galvanized rim.

This is our 2nd order of this product and is used on our spare Club Car Golf Cart. The order was received promptly and packed very well. After swapping out the old wheels and tires for these it was amazing in the difference in handling and ride. I highly recommend this product. etrailer does a great job and I highly recommend their products and most importantly the great staff.

This product was an upgrade for my Canoe Trailer. These tires exceed the performance of the original tires and the wheels have galvanized protection. They were what I wanted not what my local tire dealer tried to sell me. Prompt delivery and no hassle ordering. Thanks etrailer

I like these fat lower tires more than the tall skinny tires the ski loads easier and the trailer rides better also handles great supper happy thanks etrailer

Great job. I own 1 RV and 2 boat trailers and for the last 2 yrs. etrailer has been my go to company for all my trailer needs because you offer good products at good prices.

Great to be able to get this wheel with tire already mounted and ready to go. Delivery was sooner than expected!

Wheels were ad advertised. Since a pilot hole of 2.75 inches was critical for my axle, the staff verified this directly by measuring an actual wheel. Great service.

Very happy with this wheel/tire combo. The quality appears good and priced right. Fantastic customer service.

Just received the package
today, it was delivered by UPS.
I opened the package, it was well packaged, delivered quickly in new, unopened shipping box. The tire and wheel look beautiful. It is a great replacement tire and wheel for my trailer.

Thank You

These tire and rim packages are great. The tire is a bit larger than mine but work fine. I use these on my Zodiak boat trailer. I use this trailer on the sand and the wide tires make traveling on sand very easy.

Can't find a country of origin on wheel or tire. I've just slapped them on to replace some 5.70 x 8"... these are much wider and look great! Less digging into soil and turf, I hope!

These rims/tires were exactly as advertised. They appear to be very good quality and I expect they will last for a long time. Also, this is the third or forth item I have ordered from, and every time the products have shown up quickly, been exactly what I ordered, and were good quality items at a fair price.

Excellent tires! Perfect fit - roll nicely down the road and the prices was great. Plus, their website is upfront and honest (amazon does not list a.) tire brand b.) warranty. They are the real deal.

  • Using 215/60-8 Tires on Golf Cart
The Kenda # AM3H300 consists of a 215/60-8 tire on a 8 x 7 inch rim with a 4 lug on 4 inch bolt circle. The tire is 8.9 inches wide and 18.3 inches in diameter. If this is compatible with your existing tires and wheel bolt pattern, this wheel/tire combo should work great for you. Keep in mind that this tire is about a 1/2 inch wider than a typical golf cart tire. As long as you have the extra 1/4 inch of clearance to the inside of the tire, it should fit well.

  • Actual Width of 215/60-8 Tire Used on # AM3H300 Wheel and Tire Combo
At its widest point, the # AM3H300 215/60-8 tire/wheel combo you mentioned is right at 8-1/2 inches wide. The tire is mounted on a 8 inch diameter by 7 inch wide wheel, versus the 3-3/4 inch wide wheel commonly used on 5.70 x 8 tires. A 5.70 x 8 tire is typically 18.1 inches in diameter, while the 215-60-8 will only be a tiny bit larger at 18.3 inches in diameter. The 215/60-8 tire would be quite a bit wider than what you are using now. You can see more information about trailer tires...

  • Replacement Tire Needed for a 16 x 9.5-8 Size Tire
The tire size 16 x 9.5-8 has a diameter of 16", a section width of 9.5" and an 8 wheel. The closest tire size that we have to that is 215/60-8 like the Kenda 215/60-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" Galvanized Wheel # AM3H300 that you referenced. This tire has a diameter of 18.3", a section width of 8.5" and (as the title suggests) an 8" wheel. The bias construction of the sidewall makes this tire ideal for off road use like your agricultural application. It has a ply rating of 6, a max load...

  • Can 215/60-8 Trailer Tires be Used in Place of 4.80-12 Trailer Tires
You might be able to go to a different tire and wheel size on your boat trailer if there is space available for the different size. For a 215/60-8 tire it will be 8.47 inches wide. This is 3.57 inches wider than your existing 4.80-12 tires so you have to make sure there is space on the trailer between the existing tire inner sidewall and the nearest part of the trailer. Also the new tires will be 2.2 inches shorter. If you take the measurements and everything is going to work out then...

  • Can The Wheel And Tire Package # AM3H300 Be Used On a Golf Cart?
The Kenda 215/60-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" Galvanized Wheel # AM3H300 while being designed for trailers is often used on golf carts as well. As they are bias tires they work well off-road and on pavement. You must be sure you do not overload the tires with their capacity of 940lbs per tire. For the front tires this is typically not an issue but on some larger carts the rear tires can be overloaded depending on the cart. Do remember as this tire is intended for a trailer any warranty issues...

The modern metric equivalent to your 18.5-8.50-8 tire size is the 215/60-8 size of special trailer tire. Please refer to the linked article. Both # AM3H290 and # AM3H300 are 4-on-4 wheels with a Load Range C bias ply tire rated for 940-lbs at 50-psi pressure. AM3H290 is a white powder-coated wheel and AM3H300 is a galvanized wheel.

  • Difference Between Tire Sizes 5.70-8 and 215/60-8
5.40-8 is not a standard trailer tire size but 5.70-8 is and I imagine that's what you mean to type since the 4 and 7 are close on the keyboard. The tire will be right at 3-1/2 inches wider and the overall diameter will be only .2 of an inch larger. You would need a different wheel too though since the two tire sizes won't fit the same rim. For that you would want the # AM3H325 for if you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern or part # AM3H300 for if you need a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern.

  • Can Trailer Tire Size go From 165×6.50×8 to 18.5×8.50×8
You'd have to upgrade the wheel as well. The current size you have of 165x6.50-8 fits a smaller width rim at 5-3/8 inch whereas the 18.5×8.50×8 fits a 7 inch wide wheel. So you'd want the part # AM3H325 for if you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern or part # AM3H300. The tire is going to be 50 mm wider and right at 2 inches taller.
