Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Great tires and wheels. In my experience it's hard to find long wearing trailer tires without spending a fortune. These tires were reasonably priced and are wearing well.

Tires are still going strong. They are on a typically loaded 14K equipment trailer and show little sign of wear. No problems this far. Id buy them again.

Wow, delivered a day early and looking good! Appears to be good quality, and matches my other trailer rims too. Very pleased with the purchase. Thanks E-trailer.

Super fat delivery

Holing is great!

Product OK but etrailer website shipping estimator & customer service useless. Had a 1200 mile trip on Oct.8 but no spare tire. On Oct.3 tire showed in stock and would likely be delivered Oct. 6. Shipping label was not created until Oct. 7. Left on trip Oct.8 as scheduled. Tire had not been delivered. Returned Oct. 11 to find tire dumped in drive way. If you are naive enough to believe their shipping estimates are accurate, note that etrailer did not even BEGIN to process the order until AFTER the estimated DELIVERY date.

I apologize for this experience. If you are ever in a hurry it is always best to choose an expedited shipping rather than the free ship option as the estimates are not a guaranteed timeframe.

I only received 13 wheels and tires. I ordered 14. Need to find the missing wheel!!!

I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

Every thing went as schedule. Excellent follow through as the wheel was needed in case we has issues with some aging tires on our camper. No one locally had the tire size or rim needed for our unit. Thanks for the timely service and being there for us

Bought this for my 30 ft concession trailer after getting hit by a car. The wheel fit perfect, looks great and over the last year has performed like the original wheel and tire. Tread wear is normal for the mileage and holds air well even in cold weather. The tire also did very well when I was pulling the trailer through heavy downpours. Good tire/wheel I would purchase again if I need to.

Quick shipping and product is exactly as described

Service was great, delivery was prompt, item was delivered in excellent shape and was exactly what I wanted. I would not hesitate at all to order from again.

  • What Torque Spec Should Be Used For a Karrier 175/80R13 Trailer Tires?
There is not really an exact relationship between tire size and lug nut torque specs. The relationship has more to do with the stud size and wheel construction. For example, if you were using this tire with 1/2" lug studs and steel wheels then you will need to torque the lug nuts between 75-85 ft.-lb. I have attached a photo for you as well with more examples.

Although we don't have a database to pull your information from I may be able to help you narrow your choices down. • Torque Rating for the Kenda Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire With 16 Inch White Wheel
The Kenda Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Tire with Wheel, # AM34903, does not have a torque rating. The lug nut torque rating is based on the size of the wheel stud on your trailer. If you are unsure about what size stud is on your trailer, then you should be able to contact the trailer manufacturer for verification, but as an example, this wheel will fit on 1/2-20 wheel studs and the standard torque rating for that stud size is 80 to 90 ft lbs.

  • How to Measure Ground Clearance for a Trailer with a 7,000 Pound Drop Axle?
The answer depends on a few different factors and I won't be able to provide an answer specific to your situation without knowing how the leaf spring hangers measure or the tire size, but I can give you a place to start. A typical 7,000 pound leaf spring would measure about 3 1/2 inches from the top of the spring to the center of the eye. The Dexter drop axle, # 8327860, you referenced is 3 inches in diameter so the leaf spring eye will sit roughly 1/2 inch above the center of the axle....

A 245/75-15 tire will have a width of approximately 9-5/8 inches and an overall diameter of 30-1/2 inches. This tire size will be about 1 inches taller than the 7.00-15 tires and about 2 inches taller than the 235/75-15 tires.
