Karrier S-Trail Radials with Automotive-Grade Tread

Kenda Karrier S-Trail Tread Vs Standard Tread

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the automotive-grade, computer-generated tread on these Karrier S-Trail radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Karrier S-Trail tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Karrier S-Trail radials are constructed with double steel belts and full nylon plies for increased durability and endurance. The premium rubber compound materials of this tire help disperse heat.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Great service and great product. I had these wheels and tires fast. You will need lug nuts if coming from steel spoke wheels. But thanks to other reviews I was aware of that. Work great on my boat trailer.

- AM31215

The only E rated tire I could find in this size. They look pretty good. I ran the same tire in a D rated tire last summer and they held up well. The wheels are nice too, you need to buy some 1/2 Acorn nuts, [online vendor] is the place to get them. I also balance my wheels to give my trailer and the bearings a fighting chance for the long trips we take when pulling the Jet Skis with the motorhome. I recommend these Tires

- AM31215

Etrailer is awesome, tire and wheel was a perfect match to my setup on a jet ski trailer and fast shipping. Thanks etrailer

- AM31215

Received. Alum wheel and tire in great condition. Thank you for your help in getting new lug nuts to fit alum wheel.

- AM31215

Wanted to let you know the tires arrived today. They look great. The only issue is that the holes around the lug nuts are not large enough to allow a 13/16 impact socket to pass through. Standard lug nuts are too shallow. I suggest you suggest to buyers they purchase a set of chrome lug nuts that are long enough to protrude 3/4 inches past the hole so a socket can easily be connected. Attached is a photo of the lug nuts as well as a shot of my finished Acme Tow Dolly trailer. Thanks again for the speedy shipment.

- AM31215

Great tire and rims look good too. Use them for mostly short local fishing trips but used them a 1,000 mile round trip to Canada this past summer. Much better and smoother ride than the factory bias ply tires. Looking for something reliable give these a shot. Spend a little extra money you won't be disappointed. Picture is right after installation

Found a cut in an existing acme tow dolly tire originally ordered from etrailer.com. Ordered a replacement with my phone the afternoon I discovered the cut. It was shipped free that day. I received it 3 days later. Excellent service with full tracking on shipment. My spare was new. Tire I received enables me to start a 3 month Motorhome trip with 2 new dolly tires.

- AM31215

Received promptly and in good condition. Tire and rim as advertised

- AM31215

Wow what great service! Tires and rims look great and where perfect fit! Really enhance the look of my trailer too! Can't beat free shipping and I received them the next day! Awesome!!!

- AM31215

I have been upgrading a Shoreland'r double PWC trailer. The previous owner thought he was doing me a favor by putting bigger tires on it. Now, most the time, that's not a bad thing. But, in this case, the smaller fenders were causing the 13's to rub under load. How often do you read about someone putting smaller tires on their trailer? In this case, I needed to go down to 12's to get the clearance under the fender while under load. The rims are great and really dress up the trailer. This is an excellent tire wheel combo. I couldn't be more pleased.

- AM31215

Just received my new tire/wheel combo as promised. Looks great. Hard to find locally so glad to have found etrailer. Now I'm ready to go for the snowmobile season. Thanks for the quick and easy process.

Adam was very helpful and we came up with the best wheel and tire for my new smoker trailer I just finished. Showed up at my house earlier than expected. Very happy with my experience.

I purchased four tires and wheels, centers, and lug nuts on April 12, 2020 for our pontoon boat trailer. We changed them on May 16, 2020 and they look great! The wheels, centers, and lug nuts fit perfectly. During the purchase process I e-mailed a list of questions and Connor L. responded quickly with the answers I needed. I appreciate the customer service and quality of the products! Thanks

Great tire and rim for my snowmobile trailer. Tire came well packaged in less than a week!

Working great 1 year later! no Issues. Used them on a heavy enclosed trailer with ATV or snowmobiles quite a few times last year.

These were used to replace stock on a Con Fab trailer. Perfect.

- AM31215

The wheels look great on my aluminum utility trailer. They've only been on for a week, so I can't say a lot about the tires. etrailer is an awesome retailer, and their prices seem to be very competitive.

The tires and wheels are great. They replaced a set of low speed tires on a aluminum trailer I bought from [local discount tool store]They still look like new. Thank you for checking in. I always refer your company when others ask about tires and wheels or other parts you may carry.

Used on my tow dolly and I think I got only 5 maybe 6 thousand miles out of them. Other than not getting the miles I would have liked out of them, they were fine.

- AM31215

The taillight lens was an exact fit. It looks just like the factory one. The tire and wheel are to be used for a spare for my Load Rite tandem jet ski trailer & the tire is exactly the same as what came on the trailer. The Dutton-Lainson trailer spare tire carrier was easy to install and is very secure. etrailer.com had everything I needed and the shipping speed was excellent. I'll definitely be ordering from them again when I need similar products.

- AM31215

I was looking for an alternative to my bias ply 12 inch utility trailer tires. almost upgraded to 13 inch rims when I found these tires recommended by etrailer as an alternative. The tires and wheels arrived in just a couple days and work like a charm. they look awesome also!

Trailer wheel/tire items such as Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 # AM31215 are not given a full dynamic balancing treatment but they are mounted together so that the tire's light spot is mated to the wheel's heavy spot. This provides enough balancing for trailer tires. Passenger vehicle tires on the other hand require a full dynamic balance (with weights added as needed) so that they perform properly. Trailer tires can be balanced in this way if you like but it is not essential.
