Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

The reservoir I fish at has a questionable ramp. I removed the 12 inch tires and replaced them with the 8 inch. This puts it a little closer to the water and I don't have to back in as far. Retrieval will also be better. Fast, accurate service with a very reasonable price. Thanks for everything.

Great tires

by:

Great tire. Shipped promptly and arrived on time.

by:

I put the tires with wheels on my trailer this morning. Haven't had an occasion to use the trailer to transport my riding mower, but the wheels and tires look fine. I had some misgivings about buying wheels and tires online because of the hassle of returning them should they not fit. The description of the of the tires and wheels was complete and they fit my trailer just fine. I'll buy again from etrailer.com.

needed new tires for a jetski trailer. nobody had any in stock locally or was going to charge an arm and a leg to have tires mounted on the current rims. your price was cheaper and i received the product in less than 3 days from ordering it. was very satisfied.

Comments
They have worked fine. I have only used them twice since then but no problems with them. Thanks.

by:

Exactly what I needed for trailer restoration project. Better price than tires available locally.

by:

Great tire and whel. Much better than the ones on the trailer beforehand. Nice delivery service and follow-up. Thanks!

by:

Item arrived sooner then expected. Tire mounted on rim arrived well packaged and in excellent condition. The website has good information to help in selecting the correct item. I have also used etrailer in the past and would definitely use again.

by:

Upgrading my two boat trailers and tires, rims and lugs a priority. E-trailer had both sizes I needed and delivery was very prompt.
Last year I ordered new taillights.
Two years ago ordered car hitch.

Best resource for all things trailers.

by:

I ordered the tire/wheel as a spare for a Mini-Mate pop-up tent trailer. It did not come with a spare. I also ordered the mounting bracket. Both arrived in same box and were delivered very promptly. I am very satisfied with product as well as the service and highly recommend this company.

by:

My order arrived much sooner than I expected. Packaging is always excellent and the service from the E-trailer team members is beyond compare. Online site is super easy to search and prices are excellent. I needed the wheel/tires for a Kayak trailer. Thank you again etrailer and Natalie in particular for all her help!!

by:

The quality of the products was only surpasses by the speed with which I received then. The tires and rims seem to be top quality. Of course, I will know more after a few miles on them.

I will be hauling my boat and jet skis on the interstate and needed better equipment as well as spares for out on the road. I certainly felt that these were affordable and will make very cheap insurance for not leaving my boat on the side of the road.

I would certainly recommend etrailer.com to anyone.

by:

I was VERY impressed with the tutorial videos on measuring my existing wheels, the ease to order, the quick shipment/ delivery in spite of the restrictions caused by the Covid-19. The wheels were packaged well, and the quality was exactly what I had hoped. Best prices I found, excellent service and top quality etrailer is the total package, the way all companies should be. Thanks so much!

by:

Arrived in expected time frame. Tires appear to be good quality out of the box. No paint or rubber defects. The product fit as it should. Time will tell if the product is quality .

Service from Etrailer was 4/5.

Rating the product is not going to be accurate until the product is tested.

by:

Good value. Arrived as estimated on time and well packaged. Has already been on the road for 50 mile trip mounted on boat trailer.

by:

keeps on tickin' ... it works well for my home made small dinghy trailer

by:

Great Rims, Great C rating tires, quick delivery,
The all fit perfect. Thanks.

This tire and wheel was a perfect replacement for my old, under-rated set. They came fully pressurized ready to be mounted. I'm impressed with the tread, they should last a long time.

The packaging for the items shipped was heavy duty and delivered fast.

by:

Very good experience with Etrailer. Great communication and follow up. I received the products I ordered, and they arrived promptly. These tires will give me the piece of mind to haul my trailer anywhere now! Thanks Etrailer! I will be ordering again for sure.

  • Can 18.5x8.5-8 Trailer Tires be Replaced with 4.80/4.00-8 Tires on a Snowmobile Trailer
Kenda tire and wheel combo # AM30060 is a great option as long as the weight capacity is enough for the gross trailer weight. One of these tire and wheel combos is rated for 745 pounds at 90 psi. So for 2 of them on a single axle that would be a total capacity of 1,490 pounds. The center pilot hole is 2.8 inches in diameter and it has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. If that is enough for the trailer then you will be good to go.

  • What is Pilot Diameter of Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel
The pilot diameter for the wheel part # AM30060 that you referenced is 2.80 inches or 2-51/64 of an inch if you are being super accurate. This is pretty close to 2-7/8 inches which in decimal form is 2.875 inches.

  • Tire Pressure Recommendation for the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire

  • Speed Rating of the Kenda Tire and Wheel 4.80/4.00-8 on a 8 Inch Wheel
Unless otherwise stated all specialty trailer tires are rated at 65 miles per hour. This is the max miles per hour this tire can sustain due to the excess heat build up that will occur if you go any faster. I would not recommend exceeding that speed for any length of time. I attached an FAQ article on trailer tires for you to check out also.

  • Offset and Backspacing for Rim and Tire Part # AM30060
Trailer rims like the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM30060 have a zero offset, meaning the mounting flange is dead center of the rim. Sounds like you are looking for the backspacing. Since this wheel has a zero offset all you need to do is take the width of the rim (3-3/4 inches), add 1 inch for both wheel lips (4-3/4 inches now), and then divide by 2. Which equals 2-3/8 inches. 2-3/8 inches is the figure you are looking for. Now would using a 2 inch spacer...

Usually a smaller-size 8-inch trailer wheel like the Kenda # AM30060 is not fitted with a hub cap. The small projections you noticed (and there are actually 3 of them on this item) are not intended to hold a hub cap although on larger wheels this can be the case. These small round nubs are simply a result of the tooling used for production of the wheels.

The Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM30060 will be approximately 6-1/2" from the lug nut hole to the ground. That will have little bearing on the tire clearance, however. The most important things to know are that it is overall 16.1" in diameter and is 4.7" wide. • Shorter Wheel Tire Recommendation to Fit Trailer Inside Barn Door
The part # AM30060 does have the correct bolt pattern to allow it to bolt up to your trailer hub. As long as your trailer does not have brake assemblies these rims would fit over the hubs and work well from a fit point of view. The weight capacity of this wheel/tire setup is 745 lbs though which wouldn't be enough for your 2,500 lb trailer.
