Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Within 6 months of installation, this CHINESE MADE tire developed numerous pinhole leaks about 1.5cm above the tire bead. Now, I have to inflate it every two weeks because it loses so much air over that period that it is unsafe to use on my 10,000 Lb dump trailer. The slow leaks were easily detected using a solution of Dawn dishwashing soap and water. THE LEAKS ARE NOT COMING FROM THE JUNCTION BETWEEN THE TIRE AND THE BEAD - THEY ARE COMING THROUGH THE UNDAMAGED RUBBER ON THE SIDEWALL. This tire was a total waste of money.

Perfect match for an old 1960's era Montgomery-Ward utility trailer I found buried in a junk pile and restored for use on the farm behind ATV and golf cart.

by:

Tire was shipped fast. No hassle. Good quality. Price was competitive compared to the competitors. This tire is hard to find and it cost a lot for being so small.

by:

the tires are good so far, i have 4 of them on a little dump trailer i designed and have carried 3000 lbs of 3/4" stone (just over a yard), so i'm happy.
the tires i started out with were just golf cart tires and were iffy with this kind of a load and these are rated more for the kind of weight i can carry and dump. here are some pics... i have a video of it dumping 3000 lbs at

  • How To Stop Off-Road Trailers From Blowing 235/75-R15 Tires
I do have an option for you but a higher load range won't do you any good. The issue is that you're running radial tires which are great for highway but perform poorly off-road. I'd recommend simply switching to a bias ply, the Kenda ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1ST97. This way, you don't have to worry about fender clearance either as it's usually not as simple as just raising the fender. If you want new wheels as well, you could pair these with the Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer...

  • Determining The Correct Capacity Tires For A 12K Keystone 5th Wheel Trailer
Blowing five tires in a year definitely isn't normal. Taking the pin weight of your fifth wheel into account when figuring out the load range for your tires is pretty common but I'd definitely recommend increasing the load range going forward to prevent these blow outs. I recommend going with the Kenda ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST97, which has an E Load Range and can support a maximum load of 2,960lbs at 80 psi. These higher rated tires should have no issue handling the weight...

  • Best and Safest Trailer Tire Recommendation for Tire Size 225/75-15
For your tire size of 225/75-15 the best and safest tire we offer is the Kenda # AM1ST97. This tire has a weight capacity of 2,960 pounds per tire and has a tread design that provides superior traction in wet and dry conditions. Tire is suitable for offroad and agricultural uses. Special Tire (ST) designation indicates siffer side wall for best load handling. I like this tire better than the one that you referenced.

  • Off Road Trailer Tire for 2021 Forest River Adrenaline 27KB 225/75-15
The EcoVision trailer tire part # TA25MR has what I would describe as more of a street tread pattern but it's going to work fine for most off-road applications that you'd want to tow a trailer to. Bias ply tires tend to do a little better in off-road situations since they have a stiffer sidewall. We have the Kenda 225/75D15 part # AM1ST97 which is a Load Range E in this size and construction. If the plan is to be in a lot of off-road situations this would be my recommendation. It's a...

  • Off-Road Trailer Tire Recommendation for 225/75R15 Tire on Boat Trailer
The Goodyear Wrangler LT235/75R15 Off-Road Tire w 15" Osprey Aluminum Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 # LH92FR has a Load Range of C (1,985 lbs at 50 psi) so for 6 tires you're looking at a weight capacity of 11,910 lbs altogether. As long as this exceeds the weight of your boat and trailer together then you'll be just fine with this 6-ply rated tire. For a 10-ply tire setup I recommend the Kenda ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST97 instead. The bias style is better fitted for off-road traveling...
