Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

I bought four tires a year ago for my water & implement hauling trailer, I thought the price was very fair. I have made probably 20-25 trips since then and have not had a single issue. I will definitely buy these again.

I have run some no name tires in the past with poor results. I've also run Kenda Loadstars on several trailers for the past 18 or so years. Never had a problem with a Kenda. There may be other good light trailer tires out there, but at this point, I won't run anything else.

Review from a similar Loadstar Bias in Trailer Tires and Wheels

I purchased these to replace the tires on my boat trailer. They fit the rim but seemed slightly smaller than the tires I took off. The only other thing I noticed is that the tires were made a few months apart and had slightly different lettering. The font or design was different between the two. Since I only had one on each side, it didn’t really matter. Nobody will ever notice it. The tire was as described and should fit the need perfectly. I have already pulled it a few times but nothing heavy, just a couple hundred pounds max including the trailer.

So far, so good. Still holding air and track great down the road.

Review from a similar Loadstar Bias in Trailer Tires and Wheels

I got this tire for my utility trailer because my old ones dry rotted out and finally started leaking after 28 years. I first replaced the spare and then the two on the trailer. These Kenda tires came in holding good tire and bead shape, not twisted or mangled. I was pleased with that. The went on the rims really easy. I do it by hand using motorcycle tire irons. I also replaced the valve stems. I recommend these Kenda tires.

Review from a similar Loadstar Bias in Trailer Tires and Wheels

So this is the second set of these I have ordered for my 2001 Palamino Pop Up. The first set held air pressure all 10 years I had them and we took 25 trips with them (I just checked that fact the other day). So we had no problems until one popped on the interstate. At 10 years old, not a surprise nor disappointing. Now the last set I ordered were already on rims mounted and balanced. These new ones came packaged as tires only. The my are way deformed for shipping and folded on half. We will see if they right themselves under air pressure. Not sure how they will get mounted. I used a mounting and balance machine a long time ago only an Army auto craft shop. Can’t imagine how these will turn out. I will update my rating if the experience is a debacle. If the tire shop thinks nothing of it, I will leave myv5 star rating as is.

Comments
The tires are perfect. They mounted just fine and ride just fine. Still holding air and haven’t added any in a year. We don’t pull it much these days, but I am confident I have a solid tire.

Review from a similar Loadstar Bias in Trailer Tires and Wheels

Well I'm not sure how long the 2 tires for my trailer took to arrive after I ordered, but it wasnt long. Had some rims from the local RV outfit that came with the range C or D. I had em mounted and balanced. Never come balanced from the local. So I wanted to see if it made a smoother pull on the pavement and I believe it did, in conjunction with a much better looking heavier duty tire with a different tread pattern as well. I have a 7x14 custom utility trailer that's pretty heavy duty with a flipped 5' axle which puts me flush with the outer of the deck and the sidewalls. I'm hoping to get 3 of my trips out of these without any signs of needing replaced from wear and tear. Theres about 20 miles a trip on a rocky grated road that the C and Ds didnt handle too well after 2 or 3 of these treks. So that why 4 stars for now, but so far so good. If E-trailer will send me another review link in a year I will be happy to give a complete review then.

Comments
Its been a year and Ive only done the trek once and a few other smaller trips since.. the tires still look new a d beefy and my ride is smooth as ever.. I feel like these are gona last much longer than anything in the past.. great tires and would recommend to a to anyone who needs a good heavy duty tire that gives piece of mind.

I haven’t mounted them on my trailer but I’m concerned about quality control . Two are identical . The third seems to be narrower along the inside wall and won’t stand on its own like the other two .

Comments
Hi Gene, Thanks for your feedback! Sometimes tires will look skinnier after being stacked up in the warehouse. Once they are mounted and set at the correct air pressure it will perform as it should.

Review from a similar Loadstar Bias in Trailer Tires and Wheels

Tires were ordered, shipped fast !, i have never received anything as fast as these from anyone online !. i can not say how good they are yet ?, i just mounted them on the rims by hand on 6/22/2020. not sure how some buyers complained the tires they got from etrailer were too hard to mount ?, couple 2 inch ratchet straps wrapped around them after sitting in the sun for about 15 mins, they were pretty easy. little hint when mounting tires on rims by hand: grease the lip of the rim and inside of tire, NOT ALOT !. tire will go on easy, least they do for me. i can not say how good these tires are ?, or how long they will last ?, i just installed them, and have not pulled my boat trailer anywhere yet. i can say the price was a tad high ?, but they ARE 6-ply tires !!. well worth the price if they hold up ?. mounted these on my haul right boat trailer, old tires that were installed on the trailer that came on it have been sitting a lot sense 2010, they were dry rotted, was time to buy new tires,I choose etrailer from reading reviews on fast shipping, great prices ?, so far..most are correct !. again, can not say how long these tires last ?, but if i get a couple seasons out of them ?, I'LL BE A HAPPY BOATER !..LOL. i am including some pic's of them mounted on my 14ft boat trailer. my only concern is putting 90 psi into them ?, this just seems WAY too much air pressure for a small tire ?, so i decided on just putting 80 psi in them, after all, they are 4.80x12 tires, and they wont be hauling nothing heavy other than my aluminum boat and motor, and some light gear ?, no need in putting 90 psi in them for my short road trips.

Comments
We do recommend to inflate trailer tires to their max PSI to prevent heat build up which is the leading cause of blow outs. The only brand that is designed to be used with a lower PSI per load weight is the Goodyear Brand.

Purchased 4 new tires for my golf cart, also known as the dog cart taxi for my 2 lazy hounds! Tires were best price I could find, free shipping which is a rarity these days, and UPS delivery literally within days of purchase, even though a weekend online purchase. When I need new trailer and golf cart tires I’ll be a return customer. Thank You!

These are OEM replacements on folding trailer. Very satisfied with them as they were 10 years old and showed little treadwear and very little aging, just time to retire (pun sorry). Happy that Kenda has kept same design over the years. Nice deep tread pattern that will continue to contact highway and off-road conditions.

Review from a similar Loadstar Bias in Trailer Tires and Wheels

This is the first time I have ordered trailer tires from Etrailer and I did not know what to expect with regard to service and product quality. The last pair of tires I had on my pontoon boat trailer were 185/80R13 Marathon tires but according to the specifications, the Etrailer 185/80R13 tires had a better load rating and higher safe speed rating than my old Marathon tires. My Etraier tires also have a 2/2018 date of manufacturing which was also a plus.

Comments
Great ... I sold my pontoon boat recently but the tires exceeded my expectations. I now go to Etrailer for tire recommendation and technical advise. I recently bought a spare tire and rim for my new Venture trailer from Etrailer. Thanks, PW

I had to replace the tires on the utility trailer I tow behind my garden tractor. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I ordered these Kenda tires as I had no previous experience with them. I was very pleasantly surprised with them. They are far better than the old tires I took off the trailer and have performed better than expected. I am completely satisfied and would definitely buy them again!!

I've been very pleased with etrailer. We decided to winter our boat on a trailer at home instead of paying for storage. Finding an appropriate trailer and refurbishing it has worked well with their help. We added a surge coupler, brakes, tires, rims, lights and wiring, and changed from bunks to stands and an extra cross member. Thanks.

This really is the best tire for small trailers. This trailer is towed behind a motorcycle and all other tires have come apart even in as little as 100 miles. Typically, we run 3000 miles on a motorcycle trip and the tire is cost effective enough to be changed for every trip. I have not had one of these come apart in 100 degree plus heat at 70 mph.

My wheelbarrow got a flat...again. So I tried a different route. It's a trailer tire but I noticed it is 8in, the same as my wheelbarrow. This is a much more robust tire than the ribbed [tire] that typically lives there. I think the load rating is like 750lbs, way more than I will ever put in there. Anyway if you want to put a truly heavy duty tire on you wheelbarrow, this is it. etrailer had the best price and it got here fast.

  • Speed rating for Tires that Fit a 14.5" Wheel
We do typically recommend using bias tires for off-road applications like farm use, but until the radial tires came out, bias was the standard and so there is no harm in using them on the highway, they just won't perform as well as radials. The speed rating for the Kenda 8-14.5 tires, part # AM10333 (load range F - 2,835 lbs at 100 psi) and # AM10289 (load range G - 3,070 lbs at 116 psi), is 65 mph. • Can 8-14.5 Trailer Tires Replace 7-14.5 Trailer Tires
Okay, let's start with your first question, and yes, you can replace your 7-14.5 tires with 8-14.5 tires, as the only difference is that the 8-14.5 tires are 8 inches wide instead of 7 inches wide. All you need to have right now is at least 1-1/2" of clearance between the inside of the tire and your trailer's frame rail with your current tires and you will be able to use 8-14.5 tires. In regards to the mobile home tires, these are definitely only for single usage as they aren't designed...
