Castle Rock Radials

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the tread on these Castle Rock radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Castle Rock tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Castle Rock radials are constructed with double steel belts and double nylon cords. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Tire look to be in nice shape and shipped good in the box.Shipping is a little slow, for products that are in stock.

I ordered these tires because they are OEM tires. I had the misfortune of having 2 tires blow out on my RV last season on a Saturday Evening. I was subjected to buy 2 generic tires to get home. Unfortunately, these tires did not hold up. So I just received these tires yesterday and have not installed them yet. I am confident they will be spot on. As for service the tires were delivered 2 days early. I can't believe how easy and accurate this process was. I plan to purchase many more things from etrailer.com in the future.

Review from a similar Castle Rock in Trailer Tires and Wheels

I bought this tire to replace exactly the one that was on the trailer. I've found different manufacturers tires are not exactly the same size even though the numbers match. I had one tire on my dump trailer locking up when I applied the brakes. It was a different manufacturer and when comparing it was actually about a 1/2" smaller height wise. This is the exact tire that the rest of the tires on my trailer are and it has been working great. It is just a tire. Not to much t report on.

Review from a similar Castle Rock in Trailer Tires and Wheels

I had a blowout on my way home from Florida back to Texas on my travel trailer. Half way home and was glad had a spare. When I got back I called the local dealership and they referred me to etrailer.com because they couldn’t get it in stock from their supplier. Looked up on internet and found the exact match. Ordered on Friday and arrived on Wednesday, even with a 3 day holiday. Easy process to order. They had in stock. Happy with order.

I called around and could no one had this in stock but could order it with no idea when it would arrive. The dealer I bought the camper from suggested going to etrailer.com and they not only had it but sent it the same day and it show up 2days later. You can't beat that! I have bought other things from etrailer.com and always great to work with.

My review is not going to be based on the tire itself due to I ordered this it to replace the tire I blew. This review is going to be on etrailer. This is the 2nd time I have ordered a product with etrailer. They are very professional and very knowledgeable about the products that they sell. They keep you informed about item being shipped. I will keep ordering from them.

  • Where is the Castle Rock ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire Made
The Castle Rock ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire part # LHCK201 like almost all trailer tires are made overseas. There are only two or three US made trailer tires. That said, so long as you keep in mind the speed rating of 75 mph, fill the tires to the cold fill rating of 50 psi, there should not be an issue.

  • Determining How Tall of A Tire Can Be Used On A Trailer
If your current tires are 20.5" tall and you have a 7" gap between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender you can definitely fit taller tires. A tire like the Castle Rock ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # LHCK201 would be a great option that is 26.1" tall which is just over 5.5" taller than your current tires but since only half of that increase is on the top of the tire you will still have just over 4" clearance which is what is recommended for proper suspension...

The best replacement size option we offer for a 185R14C 8PR is the Castle Rock ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire part # LHCK201. This new tire will be just slightly larger in diameter and width so there should be no issues. It has a 75 mph speed rating.

  • Should ST205/75R14 Tires On 2019 Nano TT Be Aired Up To The Max Air PSI Stamped On Sidewall?
Since the tires you have on your 2019 Nano Travel trailer are similar to the Westlate ST205/75R14 # 274-000012 that get aired up to a max 65 PSI, you will want to air them up to that max. Trailer tires have a thicker sidewall as they are designed for the tire to always be aired up to the max pressure. Not airing them up all the way causes excess heat to build up in the tire which can lead to decreased tire life and other issues such as blow outs. I included a video of the # 274-000012...

With trailer tires, you always want to inflate them to the maximum cold psi to give you the best performance. The only tire with an inflation chart is the Goodyear Endurance model, but with all other trailer tires the manufacturers recommend inflating to the max psi.

Although we do not have the Castle Rock tire in this size and load range, we do have 235/85-16 tires available. This tire has a slightly higher ply rating with the load range G but that won't be a problem. It has a maximum load of 4,400 lbs at 110 psi and a speed rating of L for 75 mph. It also comes with a 5 year warranty and complimentary roadside assistance...

I reached out to my contact at Castle Rock and the Castle Rock ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # LHCK201 you have should be 50 degrees warmer than the air temperature after being on the highway for 30 minutes. For example if the air temperature is 70 degrees the tire should be 120 degrees. We do offer the Castle Rock ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire part # LHCK201 but not pre-mounted so you will need to purchase the galvanized wheel separately, the Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel part # AM20354 is what I recommend. • Difference Between 75R14 and 75D14 Tires for Boat Trailer
Yes, the 75R14 and 75D14 are going to have the same aspect ratio but will be constructed differently. You can use them, but the # AM1ST84 are likely not going to be the ideal solution for your trailer. When reading this tire spec, your current tire is a Radial tire (R) where the # AM1ST84 is a bias ply tire (D). Radial tires are typically better at flexing and providing more contact with the road, where bias ply tires provide less sidewall flexing, so they're normally not ideal for highway...

  • Should I replace My Castle Rock ST ST205/75R14 Tires
This type of question is always challenging due to the amount of varying opinions, different experiences, and lack of controlled environment with set standards. Please keep in mind that Castle Rock is an economy trailer tire so they will not perform at the same level of a Goodyear tire. However, feed back available to me was a statement of a 7,500 mile trip with great performance and no significant wear. But your 12,000 mile trip will be pushing the limit on most any economy tire currently...

  • Should 205/75R14 Load Range C Trailer Tire Upgrade to Load Range D on 7,250 lb Tandem Axle Trailer
So what you want are tires with a capacity that, when fully inflated, meet or exceed the GVWR of your trailer. If your 205/75R14 load range C tires do not have that capacity then yes, you should definitely upgrade. For example, the load range C Castle Rock ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # LHCK201 has a 1,760 lbs capacity, so four of these would be 7,040 lbs, which is less than your 7,250 lb GVWR.
