Lionshead Roadside Assistance Program

This tire-and-wheel assembly comes with complimentary roadside assistance for 2 years. If your RV or trailer has a flat tire, call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico.

1-Year No Excuses Guarantee

This tire has a 1-year No Excuses Guarantee. If within the first 12 months the tire is damaged in any way that's not covered by warranty, it will be replaced at no charge. You will also be compensated a flat labor rate for the cost of mounting the replacement tire.

The Nitrogen Advantage

Nitro Fill Logo

The NitroFill inflation process filters out oxygen to ensure that this tire-and-wheel assembly is filled with 95 to 99.9 percent pure nitrogen. Nitrogen-inflated tires maintain pressure better than tires inflated with standard air. This makes them ideal for RVs and trailers that are driven infrequently or sit in storage for long periods of time. Other benefits of consistent tire pressure are better fuel economy, improved braking and handling, decreased chance of tire failure, and longer tire life.

A tire inflated with standard air, which contains oxygen, is prone to fluctuations in pressure due to loss of air over time and ambient temperature changes. Nitrogen-inflated tires don't experience these fluctuations for a couple reasons. First, nitrogen molecules are larger than oxygen molecules, so they are less likely to permeate a rubber tire. Second, nitrogen is a dry gas, so it won't allow condensation to build inside the tire. A tire inflated with standard air may have moisture in it, which means it is more likely to be affected by ambient temperature.

In addition, the moisture that can collect in a tire inflated with standard air will contribute to corrosion of the wheel and deterioration of the rubber tire from the inside out. A nitrogen-inflated tire-and-wheel assembly is less likely to experience this type of decay. Less moisture in the tire also means reduced running temperatures.

If necessary, you can top off the tire with standard compressed air. But to maintain the benefits of nitrogen, the tire must be refilled with nitrogen.

Steel Lug Nut Inserts

Lionshead Aluminum Wheels with Steel Lug-Nut Inserts

This aluminum wheel comes with steel inserts in the lug nut wells. The inserts are pressed into the aluminum, and they help prevent the holes from wearing down over time. This ensures that the wheel stays secured to your trailer hub and that you won't have to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Castle Rock Radials

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the tread on these Castle Rock radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Castle Rock tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Castle Rock radials are constructed with double steel belts and double nylon cords. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Review of Lionshead Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - LHACKSL301

Today we're going to take a look at the Castle Rock ST 205/75/R15 radial trailer tire in a load range C on this 15 inch silver machined lynx aluminum trailer wheel with the 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now this tire and wheel assembly is ideal for RVs, campers, and trailers. If you notice it has the green cap on it which indicates it's a nitrogen filled tire and a nitrogen fill will mean it maintains your tire pressure longer than standard air. Helps prolong the life of the tire and the wheel. Now the wheel it's mounted on, this is an aluminum wheel. It's very durable, lightweight and rustproof.

This one is a nice sleek lynx series design and that is the five spoke design, has the machine face on the spokes and on the lip and I do use an automotive grade clear coat finish on the front to protect the wheel from scuffs and scratches. This aluminum wheel does use the steel inserts in it in the lug nut wells right here. This will help keep your wheel securely in place on the trailer hub. Prevents the holes from wearing down or elongating and eliminates the need for constant re-tightening of the lug nuts. The tire that's mounted on this is a Castle Rock tire. It is a radial tire which is constructed with double steel belts, double nylon plies, and they do use a nylon tread firming belt overlay to help prevent tread separation.

They do offer the tread wear indicators like you'll see on your passenger car tires that make it very easy to see the tread depth as it's wearing. This is a radial ply tire so it is great for highway use. Now if you look at the tread on the tread blocks, you'll see the cuts on it are openings that siping. The siping on the tire tread will help channel water away from underneath the tire, helps improve traction during wet, snowy or icy conditions. And this is an ST tire, which stands for special trailer tire, has sturdy sidewalls so that it can handle heavy loads, and it is created specifically for trailers. It's not intended for use on any other vehicles. They do offer a complimentary roadside assistance on this assembly for two years.

They have a flat tire service available 24/7 anywhere in the US, Canada, or Puerto Rico, and this assembly does meet the DOT department of transportation specifications. The tire itself meets the federal motor vehicle safety standards specs and the wheel will meet the SAEJ 1204 standards. Now if you notice, it has the hole here in the center. This is the pilot hole. Diameter on this opening is 3.19 inches.

Now they do not come with a center cap. If you do prefer to have a center cap, we do sell those separately on our website. They're usually listed on this product page as a related product and as I mentioned you just have to make sure that center cap is 3.19 inches in diameter.A few specs on this, the wheel itself, the diameter, which is always measured inside the inside is 15 inches. The width on just the wheel is five inches wide and the bolt pattern on this wheel is a five on four and a half inch bolt pattern. And if you want to measure that on a wheel, it's an odd number of lugs. All you have to do is pick any one of the holes and then you'll measure across from that hole to either one of them right across from it. But when you measure it, it's from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of whatever hole you measure to.So on this wheel it'll measure four and a half inches. So it's a five lug four and a half inch bolt pattern. The wheel does use the wheel lug size of a half inch by 20. Weight capacity on just the wheel is 1,820 pounds. And the tire the size will be stamped on the sidewall. And as we mentioned, ST for special trailer, 205/75/R15, the R designates that it's a radial tire. Section width on it is eight inches. Overall diameter when it's inflated. From the bottom to the top is 27.1 and this tire is a load range C, which means it's a six ply rated tire, so it has a maximum load capacity of 1,820 pounds at 50 PSI.And the last thing I do want to mention is most all the new trailer tires are coming through with speed ratings on them. And a speed rating is always usually designated by a letter designation. And where you'll find that is usually right where the load range is indicated. You'll see two numbers for the load index and then the letter L after it. Speed rating L will mean 75 mile per hour speed rating. But that should do it for the review on the Castle Rock ST 205/75/R15 radial tire in a load range C on this 15 inch silver machine links aluminum trailer wheel with the five on four and a half inch bolt pattern.

Review from a similar Castle Rock Lynx in Trailer Tires and Wheels

I needed to purchase a spare tire and wheel for my Aluma MC210 trailer. Nick at etrailer.com helped me find the exact tire and wheel combo I needed. The tire and wheel arrived in two days! It even has a five year warranty from the manufacturer. I could not be more pleased.

Review from a similar Castle Rock Lynx in Trailer Tires and Wheels

After one year there is definitely some wear on the tire. Since this is the first tore from you I don’t have any thing to compare it to. I feel that it is more than I think, but maybe just average. The other 3 tires I have on trailer are 5 yrs old and I’m just now considering buying new ones.

Comments
In general, you want to replace your tires about every 3-6 years, but it depends on the tire. In most cases, tread wear is not the problem for trailer tires. Rather, the biggest problem trailer tires face is that they spend most of their time doing nothing. They are typically parked in one spot between tow jobs, soaking up harmful UV rays, gaining flat spots, dry rotting, and otherwise deteriorating due to oxidation. Even when stored in a controlled garage environment, tires are still subject to dry rot and flat spotting. And even when they look fine from the outside, its usually a good idea to replace tires once they are 5-6 years old at most, or you have run them for about 10,000-12,000 miles.

Ask the Experts about this Castle Rock Trailer Tires and Wheels

  • Will The Castle Rock LHACKSL301 Make Good Spare For A 2021 ATC Raven With Aluminum Wheels?
From what I could find out, the Castle Rock ST205/75R15 Radial Tire w/ 15" Lynx Aluminum Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 # LHACKSL301 does look to be a direct replacement for your 2021 ATC Raven trailer. At least for the wheel ( # LHSL301). This was only ever offered in the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern for 5 lug wheels, so that I can definitely confirm. With that being said, if you wanted to double confirm this, and it never hurts to measure twice and cut once (figuratively speaking), you can measure from...

  • Determining If ST185/80R13 Tire On Boat Trailer Can Be Replaced W/ ST205/75R15 Tires and Wheels
It is possible that you will be able to replace the ST185/80R13C tires on your 17' Bass Tracker trailer with 15" tires, but that is a pretty large jump in size so you will need to verfiy the clearance you currently have. The smallest 15" diameter trailer tire is the ST205/75R15 which is about 2-1/2" taller and 3/4" wider than your current tires. You will need to measure from the top of your tires to the bottom of the fender to make sure you have at least 4-1/2" clearance, and from the...
