Video Transcript for Roadmaster Trailer Suspension - Leaf Spring Suspension - RM-2560 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Slipper Spring System. This is designed to work with a 6,000 pound tandem axle. Now this is going to be a little bit of unique style of suspension system from Roadmaster. It's going to replace the traditional equalizer setup that you normally see on a lot of trailers. Basically we're going to have our large slipper spring box that the leaf springs are going to attach into. And these are basically, you can see the hook on each end of each of our springs, that's going to sit inside that slipper box.

And the other end will be attached by the hanger bolt to our trailer. And that hook will sit inside the slipper box on top of a bolt that goes through the box.And basically that just allows for some movement to separate the two axles from each other so that they can move independently. And that's going to give you a much nicer ride. It's going to dissipate the energy that's traveling through your trailer. And it's going to take out a lot of that normal shake and bumpiness that you typically get with your tandem axle trailer or your fifth wheel trailer.

It does come with the two slipper boxes, one for either side. And then two sets of springs for each side, so we'll have four springs in total. And then we'll also have all the hardware to get that installed as well. Roadmaster has designed this, so it's going to be really easy to install, even in your backyard or your garage or driveway. It shouldn't be too hard to get this all mounted up.Now, one thing to keep in mind with this is that it is designed to be used with the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorption System that is sold separately.

You will have to pick that up to make this work correctly. You can find it here at etrailer.com. And basically what that is, is it's just as the name suggests. It's a shock that's going to be attached to one side of each of our slipper boxes. And that's going to do a lot of work to take out any front to back movement, side to side, so it'll help to eliminate sway and those typical bumpy rides that we get with our tandem axle trailer.

As far as some dimensions with the slipper box itself, overall the measurement from end to end on the box is going to be 17-1/4".From the attachment point, center on center, that's about 16". Now the cutout in the center of that where your center spring holder will go through, that's going to be 3-3/4" by, if I can pull it up for you here, 2-3/4" going from the inside to inside there. The cutout again from the inside edge to inside edge, 3-1/4". Inside edge to inside edge, 2-1/4". As far as the overall height on this, it's going to be about 6-1/2" to bottom inside edge there. Overall this is going to be a really unique design from Roadmaster. And with that comfort ride shock absorber system, it's going to do a really great job of taking out that rough ride that we typically get on our tandem axle trailer or on our fifth wheel trailer. We don't have to worry about any of our stuff moving around as we're going down the orad. And it's going to make our travel a lot more enjoyable. And that's going to do it for our look at the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Slipper Spring System for 6,000 pound Axle Trailers.

Installed a year ago, I made a drilling template to help locate the frame mounting bracket screw holes. Installed a set on (2) fivers, spent average of 2.5 hours for total installation per fiver. Helped the ride of the trailer. Would certainly recommend the shock kit.

by:

Install wasn’t bad. Grand design welds a V bracket inside the spring hangers for more strength so that was my only challenge on install. This caused a problem on the center hanger as the spacer wouldn’t fit. Had to grind about a quarter inch off the spacer so it would fit as I could only bend the bottom of the hangers so much. Will be towing about 100 miles this weekend so it will be nice to hopefully not have broken drawers in the back of the trailer as well as shelves in the fridge door dislodged. I also did the X factor cross braces on the front and rear hangers for more strength. Will post back after we get more miles on it, but given all the other positive reviews I don’t think I’ll be unhappy.

What a great product. The difference it made in our ride was outstanding. You almost forget you are towing a 35 ft 5th wheel behind you. We travel from West coast to East coast over all type roads and this product made such a difference. Sorry we didn't have it installed sooner. Definitely made a differance and would highly recommend to all Rv owners.

by:

I had a tech install the shocks on our 2019 Shasta Phoenix 37FE fifth wheel. He did an excellent job and now we experience a better ride and a lot less surprises when we arrive and open our camper door. Railroad crossing, terrible Georgia interstates, and ruff roads are allot smoother now with less bouncing.

by:

Not being able to experience riding in the 5th wheel RV it's difficult to state the ride quality. However, without a gas shock absorber system the spring suspension is allowed, "out of control movement". Frequently I inspect the suspension and I suspect the Roadmaster System is doing what it's designed for. I would recommend this product.

RE: MORryde RV Shackle Kit-2.25" Shackles-The Wet Shackle Kit is an improvement over stock. However, despite frequent maintenance, greasing, the bronze bushings need to be replaced. With that said, it would be prudent to mfg. the bushings using yellow brass for longevity. It would be appreciated if MORryde would provide all new replacement bushings. During maintenance a top quality tenacious waterproof grease is used.

Overall, doing business with e-trailer is outstanding.

1. The impression from "people"
was usually "why shocks on a camper", which I would answer "why shocks on your car".
2. The ride was much better; as you may imagine driving your car without shocks. And the sway was minimized & the braking effectiveness increase.
3. We've sold that RV and on our new one already planning the install; and including the wet bolts and mod on the leaf-spring hangers.

by:

My axles are attached above the leaf springs. This complicated the installation a bit but was not prohibitive. I have tandem axles and purchased two(2) of these kits for the trailer. Immediately, we noticed that the trailer was more stable when parked without the outriggers deployed. I wish I could get detailed drawing of the shock brackets. Knowing the designed angle where the shock absorbers mount would have been very helpful with the installation.

I am leaving for my first road trip and look forward to the increased stability during towing and not having the trailer contents thrown about during transport.

by:

Very good product. Instructions and video very good as I installed the suspension and shocks myself. Took me about a day.
I have put about 10,000 miles since the install. No problems & nothing coming loose. Helps to take some of the roughness out of the road vs standard equalizers

by:

OMG! After having the trailer bottom out on the stock springs while traversing a RR crossing, this system has proven to be amazing. Returning from a VA campground I crossed multiple RR crossings and traveled some rough pavement. I found I had left a bottle of shower soap on the ledge in the shower! It was still there when I set up in my yard. Not possible with the stock suspension!

by:

All travel trailers should be equipped with shock absorbers. Roadmaster nailed it with the brackets which fit perfectly. Be sure to order the longer u bolts.

by:

Along with the new springs....everything works as advertised. Well satisfied. No complaints.
I had to modify the one set of shock brackets to fit, as I have raised the trailer 5 inches
to match up with the 4 inch raised truck.
Otherwise...no swaying....no bouncing........no problems.
Thanks etrailer for your help.

This is a great kit! Everything needed is included. Be sure to purchase the heavy duty wet bolt kit for the shackles.

by:

This has been the best upgrade on my toy hauler to date. Great smooth ride .

by:

We installed these on our 2022 Riverstone Legacy 39RKFB and without a doubt they have saved us on broken rims (many have this issue) and the ride was an instant upgrade. We drove a 6500-mile trip over the summer to ZION and Rockies and no issues at all. I installed them myself and recommend them as an inexpensive solution to expensive independent suspension.

by:

Installed two of theses on a Tracer 23RBS, 28Ft. Had everything needed for complete install, decent quality. Instructions had just enough info for proper install. Gas shocks a plus, anticipating a more stable ride.

by:

With all the proper tools, the install was only like 4 hours. I did this outside on a gravel driveway and then took to my local fire department where it was level to install the shocks. The ride difference was noticed immediately.

by:

After much research and evaluation I found the Road Master to be my first choice for our 2023 Grand Design Reflection Tandom Axle RV. The engineering, manufacturing and quality is demonstrated in this product. The components are heavy duty with clear instructions. I’ve not had the opportunity to install yet however before we embark on a 2 month tour, I’m confident in this added suspension package to assure a safe, comfortable ride.

by:

The suspension system is amazing! It feels like the 5th wheel is riding on coil springs. The shock absorbers make such a noticeable difference; why these aren't installed at the factory will forever puzzle me.
Installation was straight forward. The length and quality of current U-bolts allowed for reuse.
I was skeptical about the fasteners, until the first one was torqued to specs...it was soon apparent that the provided hardware was more than adequate for the job.
I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this system again, and I promote it as often as possible.
Thank you, and all the etrailer staff!

by:

So far so good on my 2015 Open Range 3X427BHS!

Overall, the old suspension system was just rusted and worn out and the tires were a maximum of 1" apart, which made me really nervous while pulling. It was tough to remove, but nothing a little WD-40 and some praying couldn't fix!

Installation was pretty straight forward using the included directions and [online video] University. Looking forward to seeing how it rides this weekend on our next trip.

by:

This is a great product, it smothered out my fifth wheel nearly eliminating the chucking.

by:

This kit made a huge difference in the ride of our fifth wheel and we would recommend the product.

by:

Just finished installing the Roadmaster shock system on my Momentum 398M tri-axle. The kit arrived well packaged and all items were included. The instructions that come with it are pretty straight forward and easy to understand. This would probably be a lot quicker install with some helping hands, but I did it by myself in about 6 hours. The hardest part of the entire setup is all of the overhead drilling, but with a little redneck ingenuity I was able to make that bearable. As far as this kit goes, the ordering process and the outstanding customer service from Angela W, etrailer.com rocks!! This could be the start of a wonderful relationship..

by:

Best upgrade you can do on your toy hauler! It’s a little stiff at first unloaded but man what a difference when fully loaded! Smithed out the ride tremendously even on the washboard highway! A huge piece of mind when comparing it to the stock set up. Definitely recommend it!

by:

Great product! Excellent installation instructions (for the DIYer inclined to step up!). Excellent support... I ordered the wrong kit (my axle size was different) but customer service worked with me to correct it. I installed the shocks incorrectly but the service team quickly pointed out that I misread the instructions. I have a 12,000 pound, 38' trailer with a lift on the back for my 900 pound motorcycle. I've put around 7500 miles on it including a couple times across the Rockies and absolutely love the handling. Self installation is not for the feint of heart but it saved me around $10k labor not having a dealer install it.

by:

great product, I'm a fabrication/designer, well thought out and much better than the original factory suspension. I also added structural kickers to the suspension hangers to help side load generated while turning and not relying on the hangers for strength. I also replaced the original factory u bolts, might as well have all new going back on

  • Roadmaster Comfort Ride Suspension Kit For a 2023 Jayco Jayfeather 30QB Travel Trailer
Based on the information I could find on your 2023 Jayco Jayfeather 30QB travel trailer it appears you are going to have 4,400lb axles. You are going to need to verify the diameter of your current axles as some manufacturers like Lippert use a 2-3/8" diameter axle tube and others like Dexter use a 3" axle tube. If you have a 3" axle the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Leaf Spring Suspension Kit w/ Shock Absorbers # RM-2460-2560 will be the kit you need. If you have a 2-3/8" axle you will need...
