Ask the Experts about this Redline Trailer Spindles
Do you have a question about this Trailer Spindle?

  • Why Does Spindle with Smaller Diameter Have Higher Weight Rating
  • In all honesty it really just boils down to how they were manufactured and what bearings and grease seal are typically found on those axles/spindles. It also may have to do with the part # R50642 being a standard application while the part # AS3000F is geared more towards agricultural applications. Either way, Redline has tested and approved these spindles for the capacities that you references.

  • Number 42 Spindle Recommendation
  • We do have a Dexter number 42 spindle. For a standard spindle you would want the part # R50642. For the EZ lube version you would want the part # R50342EZ. This comes with a brake mounting flange. The seal inner diameter needed for this would be 2.24. The bearing dimensions you referenced are correct.

  • Compatible Spindles for Dexter Hub 8-213
  • For a Dexter 8-213 hub like # 8-213-5UC1 you can use Redline spindle # R50642 or for an EZ-Lube kit like # 8-213-5UC1-EZ you can use spindle # R50342EZ. Both spindles work with bearings 25580 and LM67048.

  • Will Redline Spindle R50642 Fit Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly 42865-KIT
  • The Redline Spindle # R50642 is compatible with the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly # 42865-KIT. Since the hub uses bearings 25580 and 14125A, whose inner diameters match up to the spindle dimensions, the hub will work on the spindle. Spindles need to be professionally welded on perfectly straight and concentric to ensure you do not have issues with trailer tracking or uneven tire wear.

  • Which Hub Do I Need for the R50642 Spindle.
  • The hub you will need for the Spindle 2.25 inch RD x 6 inch STUB, item # R50642, is the Trailer Hub Assembly - 5,200 & 6,000 lbs Axles - 6 on 5-1/2, item # 42655UC1.

  • Large Spindle and 8 Lug Hub Assembly For Crane Build
  • Our strongest regular spindle is the Spindle 2.25" RD x 6" STUB, # R50642. This spindle is for a 7000 lb axle and the idler hub assembly is # AKIHUB-865-7-1-K. If you wanted a drum assembly with brakes, you would want the # AKHD-865-7-2-K hub and drum assembly with the # AKEBRK-7L-SA brake assembly. We carry heavier drum and brake assemblies, but this is the largest spindle we carry.

  • 6k Rated Agricultural Hub and Spindle with 6 Lug Bolt Pattern
  • For an agriculture hub designed for a 6k axle with a 6 on 6 inch bolt pattern you would want the part # 42660UC1. For the matching spindle for this hub you would want the number 42 spindle part # R50642.

  • Will Trailer Hub Assembly part # 42655UC1-EZ Fit a Spindle R50642
  • Yes, the Hub part # AKIHUB-655-6-K that you referenced is a fit for the spindle part # R50642 that you also referenced.

  • Recommended Hubs and Spindles for 2500 lb Homemade Trailer
  • The first thing to determine is if you want an idler hub or a hub/drum. The weight threshold at which brakes are mandated varies by state, so you might want to check that with your state police or highway patrol. If you decide on an idler hub (no brakes), I'd recommend the # 42655UC1 hub from Dexter Axle. The bearings, races, grease seal, lug bolts and grease cap are included. The hub will have more than enough capacity for your application. This hub would use the # R50642 spindle. For...

  • Which Spindle is Used with Trailer Hub Assembly, Part # 42865UC1
  • There are two spindle options for the Trailer Hub Assembly, part # 42865-KIT. The spindle used would depend on the capacity of your axle. For a 5000 pound axle, use part # R50642. For a 5200 pound axle, you would use part # R50342EZ. The R50342EZ is an EZ lube spindle with the zerk fitting for adding grease to the bearing assemblies.

  • Recommended Spindle Without Brake Flange to Fit 7K Idler Hub AKIHUB-865-7-2-K
  • For a number 42 spindle without a brake flange, the size that works with 7K Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-865-7-2-K, you can use part # R50642. The same size spindle WITH brake flange and an EZ Lube grease zerk fitting is part # R50342EZ.

  • Replacing 10x1-1/2 Inch Brake Assemblies with 10x2-1/4 Inch Brake Assemblies
  • As long as your spindles are 4.75 inches from seal to threading like # R40484 or # R50642 they are compatible. I've attached a photo to assist. You will be able to use the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA. We do not carry a hub that will fit the bearings you referenced. My recommendation is to change your axle or at least your spindle to allow you to use standard hubs like # AKHD-545-35-K. This will require...

  • Trailer spindle # R50642 has the following measurements: Width of the F or stub is 6 inches Width of the B or seal surface area of the spindle is 0.550 inches Width of the C or inner bearing surface of the spindle is 1.00 inches Width of D or the outer bearing surface is 1.075 inches Distance between the inner and outer bearing surfaces is 1.350 inches Width of the threaded portion is 0.780 inches Overall length of the spindle is approximately 10-3/4 inches I included a...

  • Welding Redline Spindles # R40484 and # R50642 for Utility Trailer with 2-3/8 inch O.D. Pipe
  • You have a 2-3/8 inch O.D. pipe so you might want to look at Redline Spindle 2 inch x 4 inch Round Stub, # R40484, which has a 2 inch O.D. at the weld point and has a 1750 lb. capacity, so two spindles will give that axle 3500 lb capacity or Redline Spindle 2-1/4 inch RD x 6 inch STUB, # R50642, which has a 2.25 inch O.D. at the weld point and has a 2500 lb. capacity for a total capacity of 5000 lbs. The total capacities of the spindles are only valid if installed correctly and the axles...

  • Trailer Spindle, Hub and Drum, and Electric Brakes for a Fabricated Utility Reel Trailer
  • Spindle # R50342EZ is the highest capacity spindle we have at 2600 pounds. It is a 2-1/4 inch round stub. The part of the stub before the brake mounting flange is 3 inches but the length including the part on the other side of the flange before it tapers down to a smaller diameter would be 6 inches. Then you could use hub and drum assembly # 8-219-4UC3-EZ which does fit the spindle and it has an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern. For electric brakes you can use # 23-105 for the left and # 23-106...

  • Replacement Trailer Hubs for Spindle # R50642 or Spindle # R50342EZ
  • If those measurements are spindle measurements, we do not have an exact match, but the best way to find the correct replacement hubs is to find the inner and outer bearings numbers stamped onto the bearings. With those numbers, finding the correct hubs will be easy. Most of the time, mobile home axles are good for one time use only. The closest spindle we have to the measurements you have provided would either be # R50642 or # R50342EZ. For the R50642 spindle with a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt...

  • 5-on-4-1/2-Bolt Pattern Hub for Use on Redline 2-1/4-Inch Spindle # R56042
  • Selection of a compatible hub for use on the Redline Spindles # R50642 requires matching up the bearing set that fits this spindle (25580 inner bearing and LM67048 outer bearing) to the bearings in the hub. We do offer a number of hub kits that use this same bearing set and all can be seen on the link at right. However, none of these has a 3500-lb capacity and none has the required 5-on-4-1/2-inch bolt pattern. All of these hubs use at least 6 lugs. You may find it easier to select...

I have included a chart showing the dimensions you provided and the dimensions of this spindle. I used a digital caliper to take these measurements. • Recommended Spindle For # 8-174-5UC3 Trailer Hub And Drum Assembly
  • The spindle that would work with the hub # 8-174-5UC3 you mentioned is the Redline Spindle, part # R50642. This spindle includes the washer, castle nut, and pin. This has a 2,500 lb capacity. I have attached a product review video for this spindle you can check out. If you are interested in a spindle that has the EZ lube zerk fitting, I recommend part # R50342EZ. This has the brake mounting flange attached to the spindle. You can take a look at the attached product review video.

  • Will Dexter Trailer Idler Hub # 84545BX Fit Redline Spindle # R50642
  • Among the keys to determining hub and spindle compatibility is the bearing set used. The Dexter Trailer Idler Hub # 84545BX that you referenced includes inner bearing # L68149 and outer bearing # L44649. The inner diameters of these bearings must match up to the spindle dimensions for them to be compatible. Inner bearing # L68149 has an inner diameter of 1.378-inches. The Redline spindle # R50642 that you referenced has a diameter at the point where the inner bearing rides of 1.74...

  • What Alloy of Steel is the Redline Spindle # R50642
  • I reached out the manufacturer and they said it is just a standard carbon steel and there are not any alloys he is aware of. The 6 inch stub is just more of a raw finish versus the finer machined areas for the seal and bearings on the spindle itself. He said it is not dipped or plated...so it is just regular steel.
