Ask the Experts about this Redline Trailer Spindles

  • Number 42 Spindle Recommendation
We do have a Dexter number 42 spindle. For a standard spindle you would want the part # R50642. For the EZ lube version you would want the part # R50342EZ. This comes with a brake mounting flange. The seal inner diameter needed for this would be 2.24. The bearing dimensions you referenced are correct.

  • Compatible Spindles for Dexter Hub 8-213
For a Dexter 8-213 hub like # 8-213-5UC1 you can use Redline spindle # R50642 or for an EZ-Lube kit like # 8-213-5UC1-EZ you can use spindle # R50342EZ. Both spindles work with bearings 25580 and LM67048.

  • Why Does Spindle with Smaller Diameter Have Higher Weight Rating
In all honesty it really just boils down to how they were manufactured and what bearings and grease seal are typically found on those axles/spindles. It also may have to do with the part # R50642 being a standard application while the part # AS3000F is geared more towards agricultural applications. Either way, Redline has tested and approved these spindles for the capacities that you references.

  • Welding Redline Spindles # R40484 and # R50642 for Utility Trailer with 2-3/8 inch O.D. Pipe
You have a 2-3/8 inch O.D. pipe so you might want to look at Redline Spindle 2 inch x 4 inch Round Stub, # R40484, which has a 2 inch O.D. at the weld point and has a 1750 lb. capacity, so two spindles will give that axle 3500 lb capacity or Redline Spindle 2-1/4 inch RD x 6 inch STUB, # R50642, which has a 2.25 inch O.D. at the weld point and has a 2500 lb. capacity for a total capacity of 5000 lbs. The total capacities of the spindles are only valid if installed correctly and the axles...

For the Spindle 2.25 inch RD x 6 inch STUB, item # R50642, the width of the B or seal surface area of the spindle is .550 inches, and the width of the C or inner bearing surface of the spindle is 1.00 inches. The width of D or the outer bearing surface is 1.075 inches and the distance between the inner and outer bearing surfaces is 1.350 inches. The width of the threaded portion is .780 inches and the overall length of the spindle is 10-7/8 inches. These dimensions are usually not needed....

  • Will Redline Spindle R50642 Fit Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly 42865-KIT
The Redline Spindle # R50642 is compatible with the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly # 42865-KIT. Since the hub uses bearings 25580 and 14125A, whose inner diameters match up to the spindle dimensions, the hub will work on the spindle. Spindles need to be professionally welded on perfectly straight and concentric to ensure you do not have issues with trailer tracking or uneven tire wear.

  • Trailer Spindle, Hub and Drum, and Electric Brakes for a Fabricated Utility Reel Trailer
Spindle # R50342EZ is the highest capacity spindle we have at 2600 pounds. It is a 2-1/4 inch round stub. The part of the stub before the brake mounting flange is 3 inches but the length including the part on the other side of the flange before it tapers down to a smaller diameter would be 6 inches. Then you could use hub and drum assembly # 8-219-4UC3-EZ which does fit the spindle and it has an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern. For electric brakes you can use # 23-105 for the left and # 23-106...

  • Large Spindle and 8 Lug Hub Assembly For Crane Build

If you wanted a drum assembly with brakes, you would want the # AKHD-865-7-2-K hub and drum assembly with the # AKEBRK-7L-SA brake assembly. We carry heavier drum and brake assemblies, but this is the largest spindle we carry.

  • Recommended Hubs and Spindles for 2500 lb Homemade Trailer
The first thing to determine is if you want an idler hub or a hub/drum. The weight threshold at which brakes are mandated varies by state, so you might want to check that with your state police or highway patrol. If you decide on an idler hub (no brakes), I'd recommend the # 42655UC1 hub from Dexter Axle. The bearings, races, grease seal, lug bolts and grease cap are included. The hub will have more than enough capacity for your application. This hub would use the # R50642 spindle. For...

  • Replacement Trailer Hubs for Spindle # R50642 or Spindle # R50342EZ
If those measurements are spindle measurements, we do not have an exact match, but the best way to find the correct replacement hubs is to find the inner and outer bearings numbers stamped onto the bearings. With those numbers, finding the correct hubs will be easy. Most of the time, mobile home axles are good for one time use only. The closest spindle we have to the measurements you have provided would either be # R50642 or # R50342EZ. For the R50642 spindle with a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt...

For a 5200 pound axle, you would use part # R50342EZ. The R50342EZ is an EZ lube spindle with the zerk fitting for adding grease to the bearing assemblies.

I have included a chart showing the dimensions you provided and the dimensions of this spindle. I used a digital caliper to take these measurements. • What Alloy of Steel is the Redline Spindle # R50642
I reached out the manufacturer and they said it is just a standard carbon steel and there are not any alloys he is aware of. The 6 inch stub is just more of a raw finish versus the finer machined areas for the seal and bearings on the spindle itself. He said it is not dipped or plated...so it is just regular steel.

  • Compatibility of Redline Replacement Axle Spindles with Dexter Hubs
Redline Spindles are indeed compatible with Dexter hubs, if the spindle is matched properly with the bearings your hub uses. To find the correct spindle, match the inside diameter of your inner bearing, outer bearing and grease seal to the dimensions of the bearing surface of the spindle, as shown in the photo I provided. You'll also need to match the weight capacity of the spindle with that of the axle.
