The new axle stub from etrailer is a perfect fit. Delivered as promised. Etrailer had the parts I needed to get back on the road. 558966

Used this spindle to replace a bent one in a friend's torsion axle. Required some lathe work and an interesting press setup but worked out great. 424107

I used these spindles, along with a piece of 2-3/8" O.D. Sch 40 pipe, to make a custom length axle for a BBQ pit. Mine was a tight fit. I had to heat up the pipe a little, and it allowed the spindle to slide right in. As far as my etrailer.com experience went, I couldnt be more pleased. One part was backordered, and I was able to work it out over the phone with Kim. Everything shipped quickly, and was packaged well. I will do business with etrailer.com again when the need arrises. 185509

Melanie that answers the phone really likes her job and it shows. They work hard to do it right. I got all my parts to build a trailer. They were the right parts and and they came quick. 401349

Exactly what I needed to repair trailer axle on utility trailer. Could not find 2" tube stub at my local stores. Did not find an offering on Dexter site for 2" either. Went to your site and there it was. Installed with no problems and was back in business in no time. Spent more time running around looking for the thing than it took to find it on etrailer, order it and and wait for delivery. Very fast delivery. I know where to go next time I need trailer parts. Excellent!! 383182

I ordered these spindles over the phone with the help of a nice representative. I was repairing a 26 year old homemade trailer and didn't know many of the exact specifications. The sales rep. patiently helped me out and found exactly what I needed. I have ordered from this company before and they have always been helpful after the sales with technical questions. I usually try to buy locally so I can utilize technical support if needed for a purchase, but eTrailer provides that convenience. 313583

Ask the Experts about this Redline Trailer Spindles

  • What Grease Seals Do I Need For An # 84 Spindle
If the inner diameter bearing on your spindle measures 1.38" and the outer diameter bearing measures to be 1.06", then you have a #84 spindle such as part # R40484 rated for 3,500 lb. trailer axles. The correct grease seals for this spindle are Grease Seal - Double Lip part # 58846 which has an inner diameter of 1.719" and an outer diameter of 2.565". As the grease seals are a very tight fit, you may want to use a block of wood and mallet to get the seals to seat properly. Attached is...

  • Idler Hub for Trailer Axle with 1-1/16 Inch and 3/4 Inch Tapered Spindle
I do have an option for you but we do not offer any trailer hubs with bearings that match the dimensions you provided. Therefore, we can either offer you a new spindle like the Spindle 2" x 4" Round Stub part # R40484 or a new axle like the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles part # 7359765. There is not a lot of room for error when replacing a spindle therefore unless you are an experienced welder then replacing the axle will be your best option. In order to recommend a...

  • What Size Axle Does a #84 Spindle Fit
A true 1 inch spindle is a BT8 spindle. The next closest one would be the BTR spindle which is commonly referred to as a 1-1/16 inch spindle and is more common than the BT8. Both of these are typically used with 2,000 lb axles. A #84 spindle is bigger and is used for 3,500 lb axles. Common sizes for these are 2-3/8 inch round axle, 3 inch round axle, and 2 inch square axle. I have attached a helpful article that shows the different spindle selections that we offer and what size axles...

  • Spindle Dimensions of a 3500 lb Axle
3500 lb axles have the most common and most consistent spindle sizes. They are typically 1.73 inches at the seal, 1.38 inches at the inner bearing and 1.06 inches at the outer bearing like # R40484. I've attached a video to assist. I've linked the page to all of the options for hubs or hub/drum assemblies for this size spindle. There are 4 different sizes for 5 bolt assemblies and I've attached an article to assist.

  • Hub Recommendation to fit 84 Spindle R40484
For an idler hub to fit the 84 spindle part # R40484 we have the part # 84545BX as a confirmed fit. This has a bolt pattern of 5 on 4-1/2 inch which is very popular but we do not recommend you use vehicle wheels on this hub.

  • Replacement Hubs Based on Tapered Spindle Measurements
If you give me the tapered spindle measurements like in the attached photo, I can help you get the replacement hubs you need. I need the measurements at letter B where the seal sits, letter C where the inner bearing rides, and letter D where the outer bearing rides. The only other thing I will need is bolt pattern and whether you want idler hubs, drum brakes, or disc rotors. I've attached an article to assist with bolt pattern to match your wheels.

  • Cause for Uneven Tire Tread Wear on One Tire of Tandem Axle Utility Trailer
It sounds like your Haulmark 7 x 12-foot tandem axle enclosed utility trailer has a bent left rear spindle. This could occur from an impact with road debris or from hitting a curb with the trailer fully loaded. If both tires on the same axle showed equal wear on their inside edges then this would tend to indicate overloading of the axle, but since it is only one of the four wheels the problem is likely to be localized to that one spindle. If the spindle were to be bent upward then the...

The only other option I would have is the Dexter Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly - 3,500 lbs. Axles - 5 on 5-1/2, # 84557UC3, if you were wanting brakes. The capacity is 1,750 lbs. and comes with a 10 inch X 2-1/4 inch drum. It also comes with bearings, races, cap and seal. The spindles that are available for both hub assemblies...

  • Availability of Spindle that Would Fit Square Tube Axle
New spindles should be welded on only by a professional welder who has experience and the correct jigs for installing spindles perfectly straight and concentric. If not installed correctly the trailer may not track properly and uneven tire wear can occur. It might be more trouble than it's worth to try and fit a round spindle like the part # R40484 in a square tube axle by trimming it. We have a square version of this spindle as part # SP20484.

  • Is Redline Trailer # 84 Spindle a Fit for Dexter 8-247 Drums
You are correct that the Redline Spindle 2 inch x 4 inch Round Stub, part # R40484, which you reference, is a fit for your Dexter trailer hub and drum, part # 8-247-50. Please note the spindle has a 1750 lbs. capacity, so two spindles will give your axle a 3500 lbs. capacity. I would strongly recommend you take the axle to a qualified machine shop to have the appropriate welds done.

  • What Hubs Will Fit Redline 2-Inch x 4-Inch Round Spindle # R40484
The spindle you reference, Redline # R40484, is rated for use on 3500-lb axles. This spindle is compatible with both of the hubs you mentioned, parts # 84545BX, which is an idler hub; and # 84546UC3-EZ, which is a 10-inch drum brake hub intended for use with EZ-Lube spindles. The Redline spindle is not an EZ-Lube spindle but it would still work with hub # 84546UC3-EZ. If you prefer a non-EZ-Lube version of this hub you can use part # 84546UC3.

To replace your brakes and hubs you'll need the Kodiak Stainless Steel Brake Kit # K2R35S with hubs # KH84545S. You'll also need the bearing kit # BK2-100 that I mentioned earlier.

The bearing's inner diameter is 1.378-inches and it fits a #84 spindle like # R40484. This race is associated with bearing # L68149 which has an inner diameter of 1.378 inches and fits a number 84 spindle. On these spindles the diameter where the seal goes is 1.73 inches such as # R40484. The seal should be a tight fit.
