I ordered 2 trailer wheels, 2 wheel hub sets, 2 spindles and spare grease seals for future hub bearing maintenance. These items were shipped within 5 days. All parts were securely packaged in several layers of extra heavy duty boxes, then placed in a larger extra heavy duty box with handle cut outs. All the boxes were fastened together with heavy duty staples and all seams were sealed. Price, shipping and parts are excellent. Could not of had a better experience anywhere else. I will order all my future trailer parts from e-trailer. 599685

These spindles were a perfect fit for the hub kit that I also purchased. I bought a thick metal pipe with 1 1/4" ID and these spindles fit perfect. Thank you Susan H. for your help! 569484

My brother in law's old side delivery hay rake broke down. The carrier bearings and housing for the rake teeth bars and carrier assembly were totally gone. This thing is probably from the 50's and parts no longer are available. I looked it over and figured that a trailer hub and spindle shaft could be modified as a replacement. Ordered a 4 on 4 hub and a 1.25" spindle from etrailer. The parts were in my hand in 46 hours and as of today the rake is back in operation. Turned out to be a pretty easy fix since the 1.25 spindle fit perfectly into the old mount and just had drill a retaining pin hole and had to cut off about 3/4 " of the weld end of the spindle to get the correct spacing. The lug bolts fit snuggly into the hole from the original bearing housing which helped line up the assembly. All I had to do was fabricate a round plate with holes for the hub's lug bolts which was then bolted to the larger wheel which carries the rake teeth bars. 678886

I have built a number of small trailers, wagons, and other small haulers using these spindles. They work well and are very well-priced. The outside diameter of the unmachined portion is a loose fit inside of an 1-1/4" schedule 80 iron pipe, which is how I build long axles for small trailers using these spindles. Protect the machined surfaces with layers of tape, insert the unmachined end into the pipe (axle) and weld the two together. Remove the tape to reveal the machined surfaces, prep and install the bearings and hub, and it's good to go! 520921

I used these axle stubs for a garden/atv trailer. The machining was consistent and to specifications and fit the bearing and hubs perfectly. The wheels ran straight inline and the trailer tracked true even at higher speeds. 600209

Great price. Slips perfectly in a piece of 1.5" 12 gauge square tubing. I use them for building reliable, REAL axles with REAL high speed bearings on garden/yard utility dump carts using 4 on 4" lug wheels. Using hardware store or HF, low quality, low speed axles and bearings always fall apart or prematurely fail in my experience and seem do so when i really need them like in the middle of a job. When u price everything out, it only costs a few dollars more to build a high speed axle/wheel combination that will last a lifetime and carry a real load rather than falling apart in a few weeks or seizing under load. 327608

What size pipe did you use to make the axel?

I used 1.5x.120 Cold Rolled DOM. This size is probably not appropriate for highway use. I transport this smoker on a flatbed. Wheels are just for moving it around when Im at my cooking location.

Still working good. Im not using them for highway use. I built a BBQ smoker that weighs over 1500lbs so I needed hubs and axles that would let me move it around and hold up when transporting on my flatbed trailer.

The Redline Spindle # R104BT8 referenced in your question uses the # L44643 inner and outer bearing and is designed for axles with up to 2,000 pound capacities. For a compatible trailer hub assembly that features a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern, I recommend the etrailer.com # AKIHUB-545-2-1K. This hub is designed for 2,000 pound axles and will work perfectly on the spindle that you mentioned. The bearings, races and grease seal are all included. For a hub and drum assembly, I recommend...

  • Bearing Kit Recommendation to Fit BT8 Spindle
Are they close to the dimensions of the # R104BT8 or are they exactly the same? They would need to be the exact same. .99 for where the outer bearing rides, .99 for inner bearing, and 1.25 for where the seal rides. The correct bearing kit for this would then be the # BK1-100.

  • How to Determine Hub Face to Hub Face Dimension for Picking out Replacement Trailer Axle
If you are looking to order a new axle for your 5 foot wide trailer you will need to determine what the hub face to hub face dimension you would need to clear your trailer that is 5 feet (60 inches) wide. You will also need to know the width of your wheels/tires. You will take the figure and divide by half as trailer wheels have a zero offset which means exactly 50 percent of the tire width will be on either side of the hub face. You will want to have a couple inches of clearance between...

This hub will be compatible with the L44643 bearing sizes that are needed by the # R104BT8 spindle. This will include the inner and outer bearing, as well as the grease seal, lug nuts, and cap. Section B and C together, measured approximately 5/8 inches or .625 inches. Section D measured approximately 3-1/4 inches or 3.25 inches. • What is the Material Grade of the Redline Spindle # R104BT8
Redline was not able to confirm the type of steel used to make the spindle stub. They said that it is heat treated, which allows the spindle to harden to an extent, but the spindle is pretty standard steel. The spindle needs to retain a slight amount of flex to retain its durability when a trailer goes over a bump or through a hole in the road.

  • Should a Spindle That is Chipping be Replaced
Anytime that a spindle is starting to take damage you will want to replace it as that will affect the performance of your bearings and seal. In this case since that chipping is right where the seal sits (as you mentioned) that will eat at the rubber seal which will likely cause it to fail. A failed seal will leak grease and cause further damage to your spindle/hub area. From the picture you sent in it looks like you have a round BT8 spindle. For replacements we have parts # R104BT8,...

  • Which Trailer Hubs Will Fit a BT8 Trailer Spindle
Trailer spindle requires a hub that uses L44643 bearings and a seal with a 1.249 inch inner diameter. We have a lot of hubs that fit that description. I have linked all of the hubs and hub and drum assemblies that use L44643 inner and outer bearings. The most common axle size for these hubs is a 2,000 pound axle and in the hubs for axles with a 2K capacity the most popular is # AKIHUB-440-2-1K.
