Very easy to attach to trailer. Hooks are a little bit large, making them somewhat difficult to attach to my truck, but they do work as advertised. I haven't had to test them yet by having the trailer break loose, but really I don't want to. 760567

These safety chains are solid as a rock. They were purchased to go with the Reese Elite Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Accessory Kit. The clasps on the chains are extremely difficult to get to snap closed using the safety chain attachments which come with the kit. Difficult but not impossible - more annoyance than problem. Overall, I hope these chains are absolutely never required; but, if they are, I'm confident they will work perfectly. 415050

all is well. The clasps on the chains have eased up a bit and are not nearly so hard to put on as they were at first. They are holding up very well!

Had to replace the hooks, they were too small to use with the Curt Chain loops that came with product C60618, otherwise they work great. Cadmium coating is better than most - no rust after a year outside. 636021

I need the peace of mind that these chains provide. My previous chains purchased from an auto store bent at the S and I lost a trailer!! Yes I over-specified by buying these chains from etrailer, but now I sleep at night. You don't want the nightmare of losing your trailer on the road from a double fault from crappy safety chains. 815254

Haven't actually towed with these but will be next week. So far they look and feel very solid and capable. Long enough for the gooseneck with room to spare and they feel like that trailer isn't going anywhere if there is a fubar. Hopefully these will last (rusting) as long as I hope. For the price, very happy. 777322

Ask the Experts about this Tow Ready Trailer Safety Chains

  • Recommend Trailer Safety Chains for 2020 Ford F-250 with Large Safety Chain Loops
The safety chain loops on the 2020 Ford F-250s are rather large so you will need a larger clevis style hook to attach to them for which we have the Tow Ready Safety Chain Kit part # 49150 which measures 44" long each. We also have just the clevis hooks if you want to reuse your existing chains, the Titan Chain Clevis Hook part # TCSLIP-G70-10-L would work.

  • What Size Clevis Hook is Needed for the Safety Chain Loops on the Curt Gooseneck Kit Part # C60618
The clevis hook on the Tow Ready Safety Chain Kit part # 49150 is 5/16" diameter. Therefore if this hook will not work with the Curt Ball and Safety Chain Loops Kit for Ram Underbed Gooseneck Hitch part # C60618 then you will want to move up to a 3/8" diameter clevis hook like the one included with the Buyers Products Trailer Safety Chain part # 337BSC3842. This clevis hook should be large enough to accommodate the safe chain loops on the above Curt Gooseneck Kit. You will need two of them...

  • How to Connect Gooseneck Safety Chains to Coupler With D-Rings
Usually the safety chains are attached to the coupler with bolts and then the clevises connect to the U bolts or Rings on the bed of the truck. In this case, since you're not bolting on to anything, the previous owner has just wrapped them through the D-rings to secure them to the coupler. Doing it this way will provide a secure connection, so there's nothing really to worry about in regards to the security of your current connection. If you're looking to create a new set of chains for...

  • Are Safety Chains Required When Towing Gooseneck Trailer in Georgia
You'd have to check with the local highway department in Georgia to verify, but from what I was able to look up there are laws in Georgia that require safety chains when towing with a gooseneck hitch and trailer. For a set that have a 16,000 lb capacity we have the part # 49150 which would work great if you are in need of a set.

  • Safety Chains to Use with 20,000 Pound Goose Box
For a safety chain with a higher capacity than the # 49150 I recommend part # FCHA0050324 which is rated up to 18,800 pounds. This is only one chain so you need two of them but the rating is per chain so it's definitely enough for what you need. The # FCHA0050324 however does not include any hardware. To connect them to a Goose Box # RP94720 you need 1/2 washers, 1/2 inch nuts, 1/2-13x2.25 bolts, and 1/2 inch lock washers. You need 2 of each.

  • How Long Is Each Chain in the Tow Ready Safety Chain Kit 49150
Yes, each chain that comes with the Tow Ready # 49150 is 42" long, and 44" in total length when you include the clevis hook in that measurement. These chains have a total capacity of 16000-lbs and are a zinc plated steel to help resist corrosion.

  • Can I Add a Length of Chain to My Gooseneck Safety Chains to Make Hooking Up Easier
I don't see any reason why you can't do this as long as everything is rated equally or higher than your capacity. The unfortunate part is that we don't have any safety chains that are shorter than the Tow Ready 44" # 49150, so you would need to source the shorter chains at your local hardware store. To connect the two chains, you can use a heavy duty clevis hook like the # TCSLIP-G70-13-L, which is rated for 11300-lbs per clevis, so a pair would be well over the capacity to use on your...

  • Is a Reese Goose Box or Flex Air Pin Box Better for Reducing Ride Quality and Chucking
The Reese Goose Box and a Flex Air pin box serve 2 different functions. So if you have a 5th wheel trailer that you want to tow with a gooseneck trailer hitch you would use a Goose Box (more on that later). If you have a 5th wheel trailer hitch then you would use the Flex Air. Both are cushioned and have shocks so I would not give the advantage to either one. If your truck has a gooseneck hitch and you need to tow a 5th wheel trailer the Reese Goose Box is the best option. But they only...

  • Recommended Safety Chains for New Coupler and 1/2 Inch Bolts
For a 1/2 inch bolt, you will normally need a chain that has a 5/16 inch link diameter like # 49150. To utilize your current chains, I recommend simply changing your hardware and using Grade 8 bolts that fit your chains using the largest size that will fit your links with appropriate washers and locknuts. This will obviously require drilling additional holes.

On the Clevis Hook with Latch, 5/16" Item # 6495-301-04 the pin that would go through a chain link is 7/16 inches in diameter like you said. That means that the internal width of a chain link would have to be at or a little above 7/16 inches in order for the pin to go through the link. For safety chains # 49150 the metal of the links is 5/16 inches but the opening in a link is a hair under 1/2 an inch and so they would work with # 6495-301-04. However, after speaking with my source at Reese, we determined that it won't be an issue if you just match the bolt sizes up with your Goosebox.
