Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Curt single-hook coiled safety cables with S-hooks. Part number C80176. These safety cables are going to be a great replacement for your old, rusty or broken safety chains. Here you can see on our test drive the safety cables are not dragging or clanging around. They're perfectly tracking our tow vehicle. This will help them remain smooth and quiet.
One of our customers said they don't have to worry about pulling up on the campsite super early and waking everybody up. These are nice and quiet compared to noisy chains. They're a braided steel construction with a nylon coating, so we're not going to have any rust and corrosion. Like safety chains, these safety cables are going to act as a backup should your trailer become uncoupled from your tow vehicle. What's nice about these cables is the coil design is going to prevent any dragging when connected like you would see with most link styled chains. The same goes for when they're not in use.
They're not going to be resting in the mud or the moist grass furthermore causing corrosion. On one end, we have a large S type hook, so it's going to work with most safety chain connections. It even features a gate so it won't accidental become disconnected. On the other end, we have a loop so we can connect it to our trailer. Here you can see on this application, we have a welded on bracket with a bolt going through.
Now, you will have to provide your own hardware. Now, in connecting them to your tow loops on your hitch, it's a good idea to cross them just like you would your standard safety chains. This is going to create a cradle so it catches your coupler should it come disconnected from your tow vehicle. They feature a 7500 pound weight rating. The overall length from hook to hook is 42 inches long. Another great thing about the nylon coating is it's not going to harm or scratch your towing setup, and I personally like that it's not going to tear up my hands.
That's going to complete our look at the Curt single hook coiled safety cables with S-hooks. Part number C80176.

Required in most states, safety cables act as a backup if your trailer becomes separated from your vehicle. Each coiled, nylon-coated steel cable has a corrosion-resistant S-hook with wire keeper on one end and a loop on the other.I have been using "Coil Cables" for over 30 years. I always tell people about them and suggest over any chain set out there. The coil keeps the cables from dragging the ground and getting chewed up by the road. I suggest the use of 1/2 inch, Grade 8 hardware to attach to your trailer. If you do not have Grade 8 hardware then jump into your car and go get some. Nothing less is sufficient for the task. Do not sell yourself short on attachments. Remember this rule: Your wife and children may be coming from the other direction. Make sure you are safe. etrailer, my thoughts about this company are simple. Great people and great products. In the past I have contacted the Customer Service group twice. Yes only twice in 10+ years of business. My questions and issues were solved fast and we were all happy. In the picture, Get real when you build a Grill.
Product was well made, but didn’t mention that the 42 inches included the cable that formed the loop. 36 inches would have been a more accurate length.
The cables are curled and will not straighten out. These were suppose to be safety cables for my tow vehicle behind ny RV. I have tried to straighten them with no success.
Every order from etrailer has been perfect. Everything fits, everything works. Always fast delivery.
I should have purchased these cables first. They work great. The other cables I purchased got both the latches scraped off pulling out of a parking lot followed by falling off. These get ground into the same spot and keep on going with only a few minor scrapes to show. Latches still intact.
Perfect part, much nicer than the chains that were on it. Easy to install, would highly recommend it.
The cables are far superior to chains. Quiet and strong.
Used these safety cables to replace the old chains on the camper. It was an easy swap and they look good.
Excellent quality. Perfect replacement of old cables
After a year holding & still performing well!
needed to replace rusted cables on a 22 foot 6,000 lb trailer. Looked at these cables and the reviews and decided to try them. Placing the order was simple at eTrailer, they arrived in a few days. Put them on the trailer and everything fit perfectly, exactly as described. Using the trailer this weekend and don't anticipate any issues. I always shop at eTrailer for my trailer and towing needs - best prices, great service and fast shipping - can't be beat!!
I needed some safety cables for my project to flat tow my Jeep. The standard chains that came with the tow bar had quick links but those would not fit onto the Ridgeline Hitch which has a .6" diameter bar. These are lighter than chains and they fit onto the Hitch Bar easily! Very Nice quality and did I mention fantastic shipping and price? etrailer rocks!
Took my bolt cutters and removed the old rusty safety chains from my trailer. I then installed these new cables where the old chains used to be, and these cables work great !!! Nothing to drag on the road surface because these cables are coiled just the right amount to stretch out when needed. A great high-quality product that will last a long time.
I tow an older small utility trailer and replaced the rusted chains with these. I personally like how they recoil up when not in use. No issues with installation or use.
These cables are great, no more dragging chains! I put them on both of my trailers and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
The cables are a perfect fit for my truck and boat trailer
Very pleased with the new safety cables, much better than dragging the chains down the road.
Coiled Safety Cables (42" long) - Safety chains or cables are required on travel trailers in most states, and besides, they make a lot of sense. The chains that come with the trailer eventually rust, which initially is more of an eyesore than a safety risk. But they are bulky; and to ensure there is enough length to enable sharp turns, the chains tend to ride pretty close to the road if nothing is done to elevate them in a way that still allows them to function during sharp turns. So these coiled safety cable are a perfect alternative to the bulky chains. The coil allows the cables to extend as needed, while keeping them off the road during normal use. The 7500 pound rating is slightly more than I need, but better safe than sorry. Of course, this is a product one hopes never to have to use, and one never truly knows how well they'll work unless they are needed. But on paper at least, these are perfect. The included hooks work as they should to connect the cables to the hitch. And the vinyl coating should keep the steel cables free of rust. The length was just right for my rig, but be sure to measure the current set-up before buying. These cables are a great replacement for the bulky chains, yet are rated at a higher capacity than the chains that came with my RV.
These work great!
Very simple item all trailers should have - complements FA80-01-2204 Fastway Zip Coiled Trailer Break-Away Cable - Replaced both the original safety chains and breakaway cables on two new trailers. The convenience is well worth it.........
These were a bit beefy for my application, but it's nice to have the peace of mind. I bought these to reach beyond the fold away tongue. They were the perfect length- not too loose but enough to reach the hitch. Used two 5/8" stainless bolts with fender washers and nyloc nuts to attach to the frame.
I have been using etrailer for all my trailer needs as always fast shipping, excellent product and most of all great support.
Safety Cables were too short to be used
These chain replacement cables are great. Very easy to connect and disconnect. They coil up when not in use for easy storage. They are also much lighter than the chains and they are coated. No rust issues! I will buy them again for my utility trailer (I borrow from my buddy) so he can benefit also. Great product.
The safety cables I ordered arrived in a timely manner (within a week) and were just as described in the product info. The cable is very stout and covered in a heavy PVC so it won't rust or abrade where it is connected to the trailer. The cable loop at each end is protected from wear by a steel sleeve. These look much better than chain and they don't hang down and drag on the pavement like chain does. When I get them bolted to the trailer I'll include a photo of the installation.
