PC-Rated Lights
A PC-rated light produces a 90-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 180 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be clearly seen when you are standing directly in front of the light, as well as when you are standing on either side of the light. When properly installed, this type of light can function as both a front clearance light and a side marker light or as a rear clearance light and side marker light.
Surface-Mount Light
Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 424600. This is the Peterson Vanguard II Red Trailer Clearance and Side Marker Light. It's going to have a nice chrome plating around it that's made from a durable plastic construction. The back portion right here is made from a metal construction. It's going to have the molded, nylon housing, so it's going to resist rust and corrosion. This uses a patented, VIBAR socket, which is going to minimize premature bulb failure. It's going to have the pass-through mounting holes.
That's going to eliminate dis-assembly in order get everything mounted, which is a great feature to have. A lot of lights, you have to take the lens off or you have to disassemble the housing in order to get to the mounting locations. This one has the pass-through mounting, so you can easily get it installed on the mounting surface. It's also got the flat back design, so it eliminates the need for a socket hole in order to get it mounted. It's going to contain one heavy-duty incandescent bulb. It's going to use bulb number 194.
It's going to be rated up to 2,500 hours of life. It's got a single-wire design coming out of the back here. This unit is designed to ground through the mounting hardware. The mounting hardware is not included. It's going to mount using two mount holes, it'll be these holds right here. Taking a look at the overall dimensions, starting with the overall length.
It's going to give us a measurement of about 4 3/4" long. The overall width is going to give us a measurement of about 2 1/16". Then the depth from the back to the front, we're looking at about 1 3/8". This light is SAE and Department of Transportation compliant. We're going to go and hook it up to our external power source, that way you can see what it looks like with power running to it. Again, this is an incandescent bulb.
It's going to function as a clearance or side marker light. Nice stylish base, really sleek design. It's going to send out a nice, consistent signal. You can see there, the red lens really does allow a lot of light to come through and that's going to be highly visible. That's going to do it for today's review of part number 424600. This is the Peterson Red Clearance and Side Marker Light. .

It is inexpensive but stands up very well. After a time in a somewhat caustic enviroment the rivit that provide the ground to the socket carrodes preventing the bulb from lighting. They are easy to replace so it is livable. It takes several years.

- Construction Of The Vanguard II Armored Maker Light # 424600The Vanguard II Armored Clearance and Side Marker Light # 424600 has a chrome plastic housing but the back plate that attaches to the trailer is metal.
