Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at Etrailer.com. And today we're taking a quick look at the Optronics flexible LED light strip. This is going to give you a nice bold blue color to add to just about anywhere you want it to be, whether that's your boat trailer, enclosed trailer, your party boat, your party room in your house, whatever the case might be. It is going to be a flexible strip, so you can get this to go around curves, around corners. Just about anywhere you can think of to mount it.
It has this adhesive on the back, so just pull off the tape, or the backing, stick it wherever you want it to go. It does always help to clean that surface off, and make sure there's no dirt or debris or oils on that surface, and it's going to adhere best to something nonporous like glass or metal, but other than that, there's really no limitations for this. It does require 12 volt power. Just needs to have a power connection that's going to go to our red wire, and then our black wire goes to ground. The rest of it, again, 16 feet long. We can cut this to length, and I'll show you how to do that in a minute, but I'm going to turn the lights out in my studio so you can get a better idea of what that looks like in low light situations.
So you can see, the light is pretty bright, but then the falloff from that light is a nice dark kind of intense blue, so it's really pretty and definitely going to be a bold statement to have just about anywhere you want it. We do have other options including white and red lights, so if you want to add a little patriotic flare, or just have some different colors, you definitely have the option to do that. One little caveat I want to give you, you don't really want to have it mounted like I have here, with the diodes stacked up on top of each other. That can cause some buildup of heat. I just have it still on the reel so that it's not all over the place, but I wanted to show you how bright it is whenever it's illuminated. But it doesn't damage it to have it like this for a little bit of time, but just if you're going to have it for prolonged use, you want to have it all spooled out.
Just a little word to the wise there. Does also come with some mounting hardware. It's going to be four little screws, and then four little clamps that go over that strip. They are clear, so pretty discreet, and just holds it from one side, so just kind of helps that adhesive, especially if you're going around any kind of corners, like I mentioned, to bolster that. Bring that a little closer to the camera so you can see what that looks like.
So, it looks like this. They're little screws, and little clamps. Looks like they actually threw in five of these, to go with your kit there, don't have to use them if you don't want to. As I mentioned, they'd make a good reinforcement around a kind of more tricky spot where you're really asking that flexible portion to bend a lot.Now when it comes to cutting the strip to length, bring that closer to you guys as well. So if you can see right here, this is one of our safe cut points. As long as you cut it right there, everything inside there is still going to function properly, and those cut points happen every two inches or so. It's really about one in 15 sixteenths, but I'm going to call it two inches. You can see there's little tiny scissors there indicating that that's a cut point, and we'll have our electrical connections on either side. You can cut this, really as many times as you want, so if you wanted to cut it into two length sections, you could, all the way down. Or if you want to have three or four, whatever arrangement you need for your install. To actually get the electrical to connect, though, you will need to pick up the snap-on connectors. There's one that's just a union between the two sides. That's going to be part number A90P1B. And if you want to get one that has the wiring on the end, you would need part number A90PB.Those are both available here ETrailer.com, they are sold separately, and it's just going to be a little snap-on connector to get that electrical connection going to a section that you cut out. So, all in all, I think this is going to be a really versatile light to have really anywhere you want it to go. It does have a IP44 rating, and I'm going to break down what that means for you. So those two numbers, the first one indicates it's debris resistant, and the second number indicates its water resistant. So four for the debris rating means that anything larger than a millimeter won't be able to get through this. So for reference, that'd be something like a small wire, slender nails, or an ant. Those are the examples that they give for the IP rating. Really fine dust might get in here, but you'd probably have to kick up quite a bit of dust for it to get through the coating. They do have it rated at IP4, so that's what they're going to go by.And as for that second four, that's going to be the water rating again, and that means that this is resistant to any kind of spraying or splashing of water. So if this gets rained on, if it's outside, shouldn't have any issues. Like I mentioned, there might be some fine dust that could get in here eventually, but I think that this is probably going to do you for a long time. If you have it in a really rugged environment, if you're in the Outback, in the desert somewhere, you might get some dust built up over time. If you're in some really torrential downpours or if this gets submerged, that wouldn't be a great thing. It's not rated for being submerged, so just some things to note there, but should be long lasting to have outside on your enclosed trailer, your boat trailer, all kinds of stuff. As far as the overall length, again, 16 feet long. The width is three eighths of an inch. There is a lifetime warranty on those LEDs, and that's going to do it for our look at the Optronics flexible led light strip. I hope this video has been helpful in deciding if this is going to be the right one for you. As I mentioned, we do have other colors available, so definitely check them out. Thanks for watching.
