Optronics STL12RB Series 6 Inch Oval Sealed LED Tail Light Diagram

Sonically Sealed, Waterproof Trailer Light

The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.

Recessed-Mount Light

Recessed Grommet Mount Trailer Light Installation Diagram

Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the Optronics LED Trailer Tail Light-OPT62ER

Hi, everyone, Aiden here with etrailer.com and today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install this Optronics LED taillight. Let's get started. So you're gonna get all your standard taillight functions. We've got the running light on right now. We also have your turn signal and your brake lights and because they are LEDs they are going to last quite a bit longer. They're gonna be more power efficient.

And in a lot of cases they can be brighter than your incandescent bulbs as well. So this one has a smoked lens. Most of the options that we have on our site have the red lens with white LEDs and we do have some options with a clear lens and red LEDs. This lens just has a bit of tint to it to darken it up. And it has those same red LEDs, so it's not quite as bright as some of our other options.

It is still outputting a pretty good amount of light, but just keep that in mind when you're picking this out for your vehicle. You are gonna have a polycarbonate construction, so it's nice and impact-resistant. Shouldn't have to worry about any sort of cracks in the lens. It is also sonically sealed so if you do plan on being around water, maybe putting this on a boat trailer, it is fully submersible, and you won't have to worry about any water intrusion. Now, there are some options on our site that come with a polycarbonate outer flange as well and that'll have different holes for mounting points.

This one doesn't come with that. You can see we're using this with a grommet here around the edge. That's to mount it flush to the trailer. It gets a nice clean look, but that grommet is sold separately, so you will need to pick that up. Otherwise, the install process is really easy.

Let's check out how we did it. We'll start our installation off by removing our old light. The one we have here is just attached with this grommet piece here. So I'll get a plastic trim panel tool and use that to pry up around the edges until we can get that out of the housing here on the trailer, kind of working our way around like this. Once we have it removed, we can come around back to our PL3 plug and unplug it and then go and grab our new light. So at this point, we're ready to mount our light. To get it mounted to the trailer here you will need to pick up this grommet separately. That'll let us get it attached to the trailer, flush mounted. So I'll just pop that light into the grommet here. You can see it kind of wraps around the back and it's gonna keep things nice and secure. And on the back here, because we have the industry standard PL3 plug, and we've got that end on our trailer as well, we can just plug that right in. Now, if you don't have this plug on your trailer, you can pick it up here separately at etrailer. You just hard wire it into your trailer and then you've got it so you can just plug into your light like this, then we can tuck all the wiring back up in there and push this whole assembly into place. You'll kind of feel that grommet snap in and you can see it's kind of flared out here letting us know that it's wrapped around the metal there and it's all sitting nice and secure. Now we can just go ahead and test the lights. So we have our trailer plugged into our test box, but your vehicle works, too. I can go ahead and test the taillights, the turn signal, and our brake lights. And once we verify that everything is in working order, we can go ahead and hit the road. And that'll do it for a look at this Optronics LED taillight. Thanks for watching..
