The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.

Today we're going to take a look at the Optronics LED Clearance or Side Marker Light. This is going to help you stay safe out on the road, help other drivers see where you are with your trailer, and acts as your side marker or your clearance light. Since this is P2 rated, it can really only be used as one or the other. It can't be used as both at the same time. We'll have the amber lens going over our white LED. This is going to be a sonically sealed light, so that means that our lens and our housing is submersible.
It's going to be great for any marine application. If you have this on your boat trailer, you shouldn't have any issues with water getting in there and causing any damage. It's made of a durable polycarbonate lens and housing. Compatible 12-volt DC system, which is pretty typical for most of your trailers out there.You can pick up a recessed mount with a grommet to go with this. That is sold separately.
The part number for that you can find at etrailer.com. A54GB. Again, you can find that here at etrailer.com, along with the pigtail wiring to get that wired up. That part number is AL42PB. Now I just have mine connected with a couple of alligator clips here just for demonstration, but will have those two terminals at the back.
They just get wired up to power and ground. That's all we really need for our light. Turn out the lights in the studio. Give you a better idea of just how bright this is going to be in low light. So not super blindingly bright, but enough that we'll stay visible and safe out on the road even in the dark.It's a DOT compliant light.
Disconnect my wires here. And the nice thing, of course, about LEDs is that we don't have to worry about any brittle filaments like we do with incandescent bulbs. These are going to last a lot longer. Once you have this installed, you really shouldn't have any issues with it unless it gets knocked into and broken that way, but it should be a nice durable, long-lasting light for you with pretty much no maintenance required. Diameter is two inches by, going from the front of our light to this back portion here, it's about 7/8ths of an inch thick. Going to the back of those little prongs there, it's a little over an inch, about one and a quarter. Just has that single diode. Our power draw at 12.8 volts is 0.045 amps, so very low power draw. Really doesn't take much to power this little light. Optronics also stands behind their LEDs by offering a lifetime warranty on those LEDs. And that's going to do it for our look at the Optronics LED Clearance or Side Marker Light.
