Optronics MCL51 Series Clearance Marker Light Dimensions

Sonically Sealed, Waterproof Trailer Light

The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.

P2-Rated Lights

Diagram of light spread for P2 rated light

A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.

Video Transcript for Optronics Miro-Flex LED Trailer Clearance or Side Marker Light Review

Hi there trailer owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at Optronics Miro-Flex LED Trailer Clearance Lights. These are available in either amber or red. This LED marker light's going to be a great replacement, if you have a damaged marker light in your trailer, or if you're just wanting to upgrade from your old incandescent lights to the more modern look and brighter lights of LEDs. One of the things that I really like about going to LED lights over the incandescents is that they last significantly longer, typically about 50 times longer than your incandescents. And most of the time, these are sealed or are units where you can't replace the bulb.

So you're just having to replace the whole assembly anyway. So you might as well get one that's going to last longer. The other thing that I like about LEDs is that they draw less current. So if you we're wanting to increase the visibility on your trailer, but you're concerned with how quickly it's going to draw down the batteries on the trailer, or how much load it's going to put on the charged circuit coming from your vehicle that you're hauling with, you can get rid of those old incandescents and put in LEDs, which draw significantly less current. And you can typically add more of marker lights to your trailer than you had before and still draw less current than you we're before with the old incandescents. These lights are also going to be great for your boat trailers or trailers that spend a lot of time in inclement weather, because the entire units are sonically sealed, keeping them waterproof and allowing them to be submersible. So if you've got a boat trailer that you want to load and unload with constantly, a non sealed light is eventually going to get water intrusion that's going to cause corrosion and make the light fail.

Keeping all the water out of our assembly here is going to ensure long lasting operation, even if we go down into the water. These lights are going to be P2 rated, which means they're designed for side marker or clearance lights. And they're going to be DOT compliant in all states, as long as they're installed in the correct locations. The thing to keep in mind is that your amber lights are designed for the front of your trailer, and the red lights are designed for the rear of your trailer. And here we can see what our new red marker light would look like. One of the things I wanted to point out, it's in our shop right now, and we've got the lights on, but you can really see how bright my hand gets when I put it up to this red LED.

This puts off considerably more light than what your typical incandescents would be.We're going to go ahead and run to the back of the trailer now where we've got an old school style, one that we haven't replaced yet, so you can see the difference in the amount of light that it puts off above my hand. And this is the old incandescent, one that's still installed here at the back. You can see some red there, but the amount of light that this puts off in comparison with the new LED one that we installed, this one is not even close. And I've gone ahead and turned out the lights here in the shop, so you can see what it's going to look like at night. Now we've already compared it to the incandescents and you can definitely tell that this one puts out a lot more light than that one does.

But looking at it here at night, I know it's difficult to see on the camera, but the red on the new LED one is just much more crisp looking than the foggy red on the incandescent. The amount of light that pours off of it at night is definitely going to be more visible than what the old incandescents would be. So you can see our old marker light here has been damaged and busted, and it's all corroded on the inside. So we're going to be replacing that one. To replace it, if you can reach on the backside, you can just reach out back and push the old light out of the grommet. If you can't reach the backside, you oftentimes have to use a screwdriver and just slowly kind of work it out little by little. You can pop it out kind of like that. Once you've got your light popped out of its grommet on the back side, more often than not, you're going to have a two-prong connector. This is your standard trailer connector. Sometimes your lights are going to be hardwired. If they are hardwired, you can purchase a two-prong connector here at etrailer.com, so you can upgrade your trailer to have the standard two-prong. We can just pull our light off of that. It just pulls right out of those prongs. And then we'll take our new light, which does come pre-greased with dielectric grease. You can add more dielectric grease, if you want to. We have dielectric grease available here at etrailer.com. We simply take our two-prong connector then. If you need to wire it in, the two-prong connector that you would wire in would have a black and a white wire. The white wire is your ground. You would just ground that to your chassis. Oftentimes you use a ring terminal with self tapping screw, and then the black wire would just hook to your taillight circuit, so you can just butt connector those together. If you need butt connectors, I highly recommend Heat Shrink Butt Connectors, which we have here at etrailer.com. Once you've got your connector all prepared, or if you already had it from the factory, you just simply plug it into the new light. It is a pretty tight connector due to the press fit design. So once you get the prongs lined up, you just want to give it a good push until it snaps down in place.Once you've got it plugged in, the light simply just pushes in the ground. Typically you have to start with one side, and then kind of work the other side in. Once it pops in, we can go ahead and turn on our trailer's lights by plugging in our vehicle and turning on the headlights and verify that everything's working. I've got our tester plugged in over here, which simulates a vehicle. And you can see there that when we turn it on, our lights are working properly. With this one working properly on this side, if we have any more lights on our trailer that we want to replace, we'll just perform the exact same procedures on the opposite side. And that completes our look at Optronics Miro-Flex LED Trailer Clearance Lights.

Review from a similar Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

This fixture was the exact replacement for my 2011 Trailmanor 2720 trailer. The manufacturer had moved to a more modern looking fixture. I was even able to use the old chrome piece from the old fixture to keep a uniform age look. I installed a wireless rearview camera and needed a new fixture and its longer wires to make everything work. May look a little strange, but it works like a charm. E-Trailer service was excellent as usual.

Comments
The fixture is still hanging in there. No issues.

I ordered a cheaper version of these lights and they lasted two trips down the boat ramp. I decided to up grade to these higher quality lights for my boat trailer and I have had only great results with no problems. They are water proof and highly visible in the day and night time. Get you a set you will not regret your purchase.

Comments
GREAT Ive had no problem with these lights. They have been in the water hundreds of times and are still in great shape.

These side markers (both red and amber LED) are great for my 12' trailer. They have 3 LEDs (you can also get 4), and their size is perfect for a small trailer. The LED's are really bright, not only at night, but also during the day, so they are easily seen. I especially like the fact that they are sealed, so there should be no water intrusion problems in the future. I have included a few pictures, the first showing the round LED brake/turn/running/reverse lights (that I had purchased earlier from etrailer) with the red side marker mounted vertically on the outside. The second shows a side view of the red side marker light, and the 3rd picture shows the side marker mounted to a small piece of 1" X 1" x 1/8" aluminum angle which I painted black to match the mounting frame of the round LED lights. I mounted the LED side marker to one leg of the aluminum angle, then mounted the other leg with 1" standoffs to two holes already present on the black mounting frame of the round LED light. Although all the lights are sealed against water intrusion, I decided to mount them on each side of the trailer at the top of 2 PVC pipes, about 36" long each, where the lights would not be exposed to immersing in water when launching/retrieving a boat.

Comments
After a year, the lights are still bright as ever. One of them even survived being drug down the highway for 100 yards when the PVC pole it was mounted to came out of its holding fixture!!

Review from a similar Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

I installed these lights in a [email protected] teardrop camping trailer. The grommet would not work on this style trailer so I installed the lights using a silicone adhesive the same as the original Peterson lights. eTrailer delivered them in the same timely manner I have come to expect from them and the LEDs were easy to install. These lights are blindingly bright - simply amazing. I had rear lights with 1157 bulbs which I had upgraded to 2357 bulbs and equipped the tow vehicle with a powered converter but the light output was dim by today's standards. These lights are twice as bright on running lights and about 4 times brighter on the brake/turn signal elements. The thing we all fear when towing is being hit from behind by a driver that does not see our running, brake or turn signal lights in time. I know these lights will vastly improve the safety and visibility of our trailer. Thanks!

Comments
These lights are great and you have sold a number of them to our friends now.

These are a perfect upgrade on my jet ski trailer which was constantly burning bulbs maybe because the lights were not watertight. No amount of dielectric grease prevented it. These were easy to install. They are watertight and are twice as bright as the old ones. Great customer service! I highly recommend the lights and etrailer.com!

Comments
They are still working well and could not be happier. They are bright and a perfect upgrade. I had the marker lights go out briefly but only due to a dirty ground. Other than that, perfection! Thanks for following up! That’s ideal customer service.

This product worked great replacing my old dry rotted, screw stripped bulb tail lights(approximately 5"x5.5") on my boat trailer. In fact, they fit in the tail light mount better than the old light. The installation couldn't have been any easier. Special thanks to Cailee V for getting me setup with these tail lights after I ordered a different tail light on my own that didnt work for my project.

Great little lights, and very bright as well. They have been installed on a trailer and submerged many times since installed, and still work great!! Can't beat LED's for brightness and, hopefully, longevity!!! Attached is one picture of the overall trailer, and a closeup of the amber side light. I also have 2 red sidelights that are mounted above water at the rear of the trailer, and they are still working great as well.

Comments
These side lights are bright LEDs and the amber ones have been submerged more than once-and are still working great!! The red side lights are mounted high on the vertical poles, so do not get submerged in water. However, all 4 side lights have been exposed to the weather for over a year, and all are still burning bright!! These are cool little LED lights!!

Review from a similar Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

I got these because the original ones were a single bulb theses are much brighter. I also got a 7pole to 4 pole adapter my old one got squashed I went to 5 different places and no one had it checked on etrailer and there it was I ordered it and it was in my hands in less than a week as you see I taped it together so I never have to search for it. one other thing I got was a chrome led license plate light I had replaced mine with a original plate light from the trailer company twice and they keep breaking I think it was because they were black and you couldn't see it with this one being chrome it sticks out and being led it is much brighter and it cost less than the original one

Review from a similar Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

I received the lights and tested them; they worked fine. They are destined to be used on a car, not a trailer. Side marker lights for cars/trucks are rare now because they are incorporated into the front and rear light assemblies and rap around the vehicle. The lights I ordered from you are the only ones I could find that had a hole-mount pattern wide enough to clear the metal cutouts, under the old lights, in the fenders of my car. I'm glad you have a huge selection to choose from. I'm not sure when I'll get around to installing them. The car is undergoing a restoration for the third time. All I know is the next time I remove the stock side markers, they will shatter. Few trim parts are available for this car these days and nylon snap-in mounting tabs dry rot and break after a couple of decades. I bought this little car new 26 years ago and took it around the world with me before I retired from the Air Force. I attached a picture of it from the last touchups 7 years ago. It won't quit running so I keep giving it new birthdays. This little rat car has become a part of my DNA. 1991 GEO Tracker 4x4. Original owner.

I ordered a couple spares due to 1 lamp losing a few leds. Lamps were still brite even without a couple leds. I'm still happy with their performance as the other 8 on this trailer have zero issues.

Review from a similar Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

Bought these to replace all of the single wire, ground to the trailer type lights that were on my boat trailer. I bought the amber, red and white lights for the various positions I needed them in. They are bright and work very well. For mounting hardware, an 8-32 machine screw fits just right. Something to be aware of, they say it’s a flush mount, but it’s not with the wires sticking out the back of the light. Instead of drilling a relief in my trailer, I opted to use some aluminum cable stops as standoffs. See pictures to further explain. Worked great in the end. These are quite bright for marker lights and and perfect for what I wanted. ETrailer has prompt shipping as usual.

Review from a similar Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

These lights are of very good quality and are really bright. I use them on an early 70's Bronco for the front turn signals. Day or night, they are distinct and unique and best of all, . Definitely visibly on during the night AND the day (this can be seen in the photo taken on a Snow day, bright, while half way out of my garage). Great price for a great product

Super fast shipping! Ordered on Saturday with etrailer's free shipping option and received my order on Tuesday. Thanks! The lights appear to be of high quality. Comes with all necessary hardware, but I used butt connectors instead of the supplied come shaped connectors. Lights are MUCH brighter than the halogen models they replaced; both tail and brake/turn. You could barely see the old taillights in the day time, these are far superior!
