The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.
A P2-rated or P3-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.
Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number NCL12RKB. This is the Optronics Sealed Mini LED Side Marker and Clearance light. It's a P2 rated light that's going to function as either a clearance side marker or identification light. It's going to product a 90 degree angle of light going left and going right. LED's are going to be great replacement for incandescent lights. They're going to last longer.
They're going to burn brighter, and they're going to be much more efficient. You don't have to worry about replacing bulbs. You don't have to worry about brittle filaments. This is going to feature a sealed, water proof housing and lens design. It's going to have the build in rubber grommet for mounting. We're going to have a 2 wire design, so you're going to have your black and white wire.
That's going to be protected by a wire sleeve. White wire's going to be for ground. Black wire's going to be for power. This is going to give us a diameter, measuring just the light portion, of 3/4 of an inch. The depth is going to measure about 15/16 of an inch. The installation does require an 11/16 inch hole at the desired location.
It's going to be a 1 diode design, so it's going to contain 1 red LED. The LED light is going to draw 0.047n amps at 12 volts, and is Department of Transportation approved. Optronics is going to cover it with a lifetime warranty on the LED. You can mount this numerous different ways. You can just drill out the appropriate sized hole that it needs to sit in. The grommet's going to help that nice tight seal, and tight fit.
Or you could do a mounting adapter. This would simply accept the 3/4 inch Optronics light. It goes in there. You just push it down into place, then you have your mount holes out here to get it fully secured. Either way, mounting plates or mounting adapters are going to be sold separately. You can find those here on our website. Last thing I want to do is simply just go ahead and simply just hook it up to our external power source. That way you can see what it looks like with power running to it. We'll also be able to turn off our overhead lights so you can see it in a low light setting. This is what the light looks like. You can see it sends out a nice consistent signal. It's going to contain 1 LED. We're going to have the red lens. It allows a lot of light to come through. Again, this light's going to function as your clearance side marker or identification light. That's going to do it for today's look at part number MCL12RKB.
