Sonically Sealed, Waterproof Trailer Light

The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.

P2-Rated Lights

Diagram of light spread for P2 rated light

A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.

Video Transcript for Optronics Round Amber Marker Clearance Lights Review

Today on our utility trailer, we're going to show you how to install the Optronics mirror flex LED round marker clearance light with amber bulbs. Part number is MCL-50CAK. Now, when we turn on our running lights circuit you'll see it'll come on, gives us a really nice full amber light. I like them that they're clear. What they put out is you can see a tremendous amount of light there. You've got the 3 LEDs glowing in the amber. These draw a lot less amps and produce a lot less heat than what you're going to get standard incandescent bulb.

They're going to reduce the draw on our vehicle and also gives it a really nice bright clean look. weRe going to start up here on the front corner of our trailer. We've got one of our amber lights in here. We're going to go ahead and pull this out and get our new one replaced. It's real easy process. Just want to use a little screw driver, kind of go in between that grommet and the light.

You see we just kind of pry that out. If you've got access to it from the rear you can also push out from the back side and kind of help it along. It will eventually come out just like that. Got our old plug there. You can see it's got kind of some crud and some corrosion on it.

Also going to pull out that grommet. Our new light comes with a grommet too, so we can put that right back in. Now, let's head underneath there look at our wiring connections and get them made. We're going just loosen up the clamp holding our wiring on here. Now, here you see coming from the other side of the trailer we've got our black wire. That's going to power, or give us our light power.

Then there's a small ring terminal that they use it on the stud for ground. We'll follow right along with that. Just take this old part off. Turn that back there. We're going to strip the end off of there. Just like that. We'll just twist the end there and then we're going to add a heat shrink butt connector. Right onto the end of that. Now, we have those available on our website if you don't already have them. It's going to be on the outside of the trailer, the heat shrinks really the way to go. That way it gives us a good seal. Get that crimped down real well. Now, we'll take our pig tail side that came with the light. We're going to strip a little bit off the black side there. It'll go right up into our butt connector there. We'll crimp it down as well. Now, we'll take that heat shrink butt connector, we can either use like a little torch, or we can use a heat gun or what I'm using here is a lighter. We're just going to heat up both ends of it there. You'll see it, it'll shrink right now. Makes a good seal all the way around our wire for us. Now, if you're going to use a lighter I'd use the bottom part of the flame where it's kind of clear blue. That way it doesn't get a bunch of brown stuff on there. All right, that'll be nice and sealed up from the elements. We won't have to worry about any water getting in there and causing any corrosion. Now, in a typical situation we could just use a self tapping screw, go through the already existing ring terminal and then ground that right off to the frame of the trailer, but since we do have the stud there, we're going to take advantage of it. I just need to switch out our ring terminal for one that's just a little bit larger so that it'll go over that stud. Cut the old way off. Strip a little wire back. Crimp that right onto the wire there. Good. Now, take a little bit of electrical tape there and just kind of wrap that one up to give us a little bit of vapor barrier, moisture barrier. See, that will now fit right on our stud, and give us a good ground. Now, we'll replace our nut. That secure. All right, perfect. Place that back through our hole. Now we can put our light in place. We can get the new grommet put in place. I'd like to kind of flex out. You see we got that front seal and that back one's what we want to go in behind the trailer, so I like to flex that out, poke it up in, and then just kind of work it all the way around the edge there. Ideally it's going to sit like that, where that flange is all the way out, all the way around. Wiring comes through. Really easy connection here for the light. We'll just slide the two fasteners right into the back and give it a good squeeze. See it fits right down on there. It's just a matter then of working the light in. Might have to around the outside and kind of just keep going a little bit at a time. Just kind of wiggle it around a little bit. It should be close to flush. You see that it's going to be out just a little bit. Make sure it's seated 00:06:23 all the way around on the back side. Now supply some power to it, make sure it works. That's going to complete today's installation of the optronics LED round marker clearance light with the amber bulb. Part number MCL-50CAK.

Good service with quality parts at a reasonable price. This is not my first order from etrailer and will continue to order additional parts when required. Would like to find some good LED running lights on a flexible strip for contouring along a curved base. The product shown would be nice with a white LED vice Amber. 68028

Ask the Experts about this Optronics Trailer Lights

Do you have a question about this Trailer Light?

  • Red and Amber Trailer Clearance Lights with Clear Lenses
  • You are correct, clear lenses are not made for lights # MC32AB or # MC32RB. The bulbs for both of these lights produce white light so if clear lenses were on them the light would just be white. Unless you found colored bulbs that would fit. We do have red and amber marker/clearance lights with clear lenses though. For example we have # MCL63CAB which is an amber LED light with a clear lens. Other amber options include # MCL13CA2B, # MCL-50CAK, # MCL51CAK, # MCL65CAB, # AL91CAB, # MCL17CAB,...

  • Recommended Miro-Flex Clearance Lights With Clear Lens For Trailer
  • We do offer Miro-Flex lights with clear lens for your trailer, but none of the Miro-Flex lights we carry are round with clear lens. The lights I recommend with a clear lens are part # MCL-50CRK and part # MCL-50CAK. These lights have 3 LED diodes and come with the plug and grommet needed to install. For a round 2 inch Miro-Flex light, we offer the amber light, part # MCL50AB and the red light, part # MCL50RB. To mount these lights you would need the rubber grommet, part # a54gb,...

  • What are the Dimensions of the Optronics LED Clearance Light, # MCL-50CAK
  • The LED Round Marker Clearance Light, # MCL-50CAK, is 2-3/4 inches in diameter and it measures approximately 1-3/8 inches deep. I produced a picture that shows the diameter.

  • What is Hole Size Needed for Optronics LED Round Marker Clearance Light # MCL-50CAK
  • The Optronics LED Round Marker Clearance Light # MCL-50CAK referenced in your question features an overall diameter of 2-3/4 inches. The size hole you will need for the grommet and light is 2-1/4 inches. The light itself has a 2 inch diameter like the ones you are replacing. This is LED round marker light has a waterproof construction and comes with the 2-way plug for wiring. I have attached a couple short video demonstrations on this product that you can also take a look at.

  • Availability of a White LED Lamp Like # MCL-50CAK for 2-1/4 Inch Opening
  • The lamp you describe is a clearance or marker light. It's also available in red as part # MCL-50CRK. We don't have a clear utility lamp that's designed to fit into a 2-1/4 inch diameter hole. If it would be possible to slightly enlarge the available opening to 2-5/16 inches, you could use the # UCL50CB lamp and the # A54GB grommet. You'd also need either the straight plug, # A46PB or the right angle # A49PB.
