P2-Rated Lights
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Optronics Flush Mount Trailer Clearance or Side Marker Light with chrome trim. This is an amber, rectangular light. Again, it's going to feature the chrome trim that goes around the perimeter. It gives the unit a very clean, finished look. This does feature a replaceable lens and bulb. It's going to use bulb number 194, and the bulb sits in a removable socket that's connected to the wiring harness. Now this is going to flush mount.
It's got two mount holes located here on the back. Mounting hardware is included. If we take a measurement, the distance we have between those mount holes on center, we can see that that's going to measure right on 2", and then the installation area does require a 1 1/4" mounting hole for the bulb socket area and the wiring to pass through. This is a two wire design. It's going to come with your power lead, and your ground wire.
The unit is Department of Transportation and SAE compliant. Taking a look at the measurements real quick, starting with the overall length, edge to edge, that's going to give us a measurement of about 3 3/4". Going this direction, edge to edge, that's going to give us a measurement of right around 2 1/4". Then the depth of the unit is only about 1/2" deep. That's just measuring this area up here. When it comes to the power draw at 12.8 volts, we're looking at 0.4 amps. We're going to go ahead and hook it up to power, that way you can see what it looks like with some power running to it, and then we'll also be able to turn off our overhead lights so you can see it in a low light condition.
This is an incandescent bulb system, and it's going to contain a one bulb design. You can see there that it sends off a really nice, consistent signal output. Again, it's going to have the amber lens, allows plenty of light to come through, and again that a chrome trim really gives the unit a very clean, finished, overall attractive appearance. That's going to do it for today's look at the Optronics Flush Mount Trailer Clearance or Side Marker Light.
