Surface-Mount Light

Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Video Transcript for Bargman LED Surface Mount Double Tail Light Installation

Today we're going to be showing you how to install the Bargman LED, Surface Mount, Double Tail Light. This is the 84 or 85 series in the red with the black base. It's part number is 47-84-610. Here's the tail light we're going to be replacing today. As you can see, it's working fine. That's not the issue. It's just got a lot of the sun fading and things like that.

It's starting to get older looking. Our customer really wants to refresh the look of his race trailer here. We're going to be replacing that. When we do that, as you can see here on the other side we've already got the LED installed, it gives it a really nice, clean, crisp look. Lights look really nice.

Still has that double design to where we've got both sides there. It's going to go in, a little bit of caulk behind it. Pretty easy installation to do. It's really going to clean up the look. We've already replaced the rest of the lights on the trailer with LED lights so just jumping into this one to show you how it works. Whatever the fasteners are, you'll use that type of tool.

Just go ahead and remove our old tail light here. What we'll see back behind there is going to be some crud and debris and stuff like that built up over time. Also we're going to have our main wires coming out. We've got our brown wire, our white wire, and our green wire. We'll snip, snip, snip right here.

That will give us some fresh ends to deal with. Since that light is still working, put it on a different trailer, whatever you want to do. You can put on the back of your kid's wagon. It's still a functional light. It just doesn't look as nice as the new ones going in. Let's grab these and strip back the end of each of our wires here. If you look on the back of our light itself, we've got 2 green wires. These are going to be for our tail lights. We've got 2 black wires. These are going to be for our brake lights. Then we've got 2 wires ran into a union here. Then that white wire is going to be for our ground. Yours may not be this way, but these are stripped off a little bit long. I'm going to take off just a little bit off the end here. Let's twist our green connections together there. We're going to apply a large heat-shrink butt connector here. If you don't have these at home, we've got them available on our website. You can check that out and pick up a couple to get those connections made. For this one, we can go with a little bit smaller butt connector since we're only doing one wire. Again, that's heat shrink, what you consider to be semi on the outside or the exterior of the vehicle. Those heat shrinks will give us a little vapor barrier there to protect it. I'm just going to clean this out. The next thing we want to do is let's go ahead and turn our tail lights back on, make sure none of your wires are touching. We're going to turn those tail lights back on and just check and see which one of these are for the tail light wire. That way we don't have tail lights coming on when the brakes should and vice versa. We'll right off our ground wire there. With the tail lights on, let's check our brown one. You can see the light there. Touch our green one, that lights going to come on and off. We'll know that's the one we want to use for our tail light. Our other one will be for the brake. It says green wire, tail light; black wire, stop and turn. Our black wire is going get connected to our blinker brake circuit here. Green is going to go to green. You'll want to check that, of course, on your trailer just like we did to make sure you're getting the signal that you want. The white is going to connect with the white coming out of our trailer. Now we'll grab a heat gun or a different type of heat source. In our case, we're just going to use a lighter. We want to shrink each of those ends down and allow that to give it a good, nice seal on those to protect from any moisture. If you do use a lighter, try to use the lower portion of the flame, down there where it's blue. It's going to be a little bit warmer. It's also not going to give you that black carbon buildup that you'll see. All right, looking good. Now I'm going to bring in a little bit of caulk. I'm going to fill this groove up on the back side here. It will give us a really nice moisture protection. It's going to squeeze out when we screw the light down into place. It's okay. Just wipe it off with our finger, clean towel, whatever we've got. I'd rather it come out and us have to clean it up than let a bunch of moisture get in here behind our lights. We'll just guide our wire up and in. Then we'll use our old holes as reference. They're not going to line up exactly with our old holes, but we can use that to level everything out, get it all centered. Then we'll go ahead and put it on there and give it a little push. It's going to help hold it. Then we need to bring in our fasteners and resecure. A good seal all the way around. I'll bring my finger around, and it's going to clean up most of that excess for us. Then anywhere we've got crud over here, we've got this old hole. Just fill that up caulk. That way we won't have to worry about any moisture going in. Now when I clean this up, I'm not looking to get all the caulk off. I just want it to be consistent, get off any heavier areas where water or wind or time, any of that might be able to pull it down some and let water start getting in from behind, any of those higher spots. Of course, you want your seal behind your light to stay. You don't want to wipe all that out. I'm just going to clean up the face a little bit. There we go. It's installed. Let's go hit the tail lights on and make sure it's working properly. As you can see, in just a few, short minutes we're able to either upgrade our trailer or fix a nonworking light very quickly and easily. With everything working as it should, that's going to complete today's installation of the Bargman LED, Surface Mount, Double Tail Light, part number 47-84-610, on our car-hauling trailer. .

I just wanted to let you know how I came to order though etrailer. Of course I found the signal lights elsewhere online. They did not have enough information on their wiring. My plan to learn more was to go to etrailer, your price was within a few $, and you had plenty of pictures, I could see what I wanted to know. So I ordered through you for have the extra info theother guys didn't. 639550

I've installed several sets of these lights on several 5th wheels. The industry "standard" of using a couple of cheap incandescent bulbs for the tail lights is a good way to get run over in bright day light. You can barely see the OEM tail lights in bright sun. These LED lights are very bright and are easily seen even in bright day light. The lights are sealed with only the wire leads exposed to the elements so they can be mounted on a non-flat surface such as a older trailer that has aluminum siding instead of fiberglass. I install the lights using marine butt connectors that have the heat shrink seal to ensure the connection is water tight. For some reason these lights come in a black housing. Who has a trailer that uses black trim, not very many. I remove the lenses from the nylon housing (four screws), paint the housing white and reinstall the lights. No big deal and now you have a color coordinated tail light. Use a #8 one inch self tapping screws to install and you got this project completed. 127743

After speaking to the folks at ETrailer you realize that if you get a good price on a product from another company but do not have a live person that is qualified to answer your questions, how good of a deal is it? Carol was amazing and very patient making sure I was purchasing the right product. No more purchasing from the MEGA online store when it comes to our fifth wheel trailer, ETrailer is my one stop online store. Also the video reviews they offer for free are very helpful in making my product decisions. 583401

I’m very happy with these LED tail lights. Bought them to replace the ones that came on the trailer. They are bright and seem to be of high quality. They were easy to install. The only slight drawback is that it’s a bit tricky to get the wires to lay flat enough against the light to get it to sit flush with the back of the trailer. But in the end it worked fine. I would recommend these as a good replacement for older, smaller, incandescent tail lights. 612458

Finally, a quality replacement for RV Tail Light--92 Series. This surface mounted LED light installs easily after removing the series 92 light. It completely covers the screw holes used for the old style fixture. It’s at least 10 times brighter, or at least it looks that way. Installation was easy. Remove the lens from the old unit and then the screws holding it to your trailer. (Note: many units are surrounded with a bead for caulking, normally white or clear. Use a razor blade around the edges to release the old unit) Once the old units released just connect the new taillight and using stainless steel screws attach the new unit. I also sealed the new unit with a bead of clear silicone caulk. FYI – This unit does not provide a license plate light or means of attaching a license plate. Looks factory installed when you are done. Pictures are old tail light and new installation 113996

I am very pleased with the performance and high visibility to drivers behind me. I wasn't overly happy of the poor lighting quality of the factory installed one. They just didn't provide a strong presence. I did replace them more for safety than any other reason. 749907

The 20 year old Bargmann 30-84-527 incandescent lamps were getting weak and were prone to blowing bulbs. I replaced them with these new LED units for reliability and improved visibility. The new light units are slightly larger than the old units. Because there are so many high profile vehicles on the road now, I also added a pair of Optronics STL264RB Fusion LED Combination Tail Light Bars for Trailers Over 80" Wide - Submersible - Red/Clear Lens as high level stop/tail/turn/reverse lamps to improve visibility in traffic. Photos show 1. New Bargmann (left), Old Bargmann (right) and Optronics lights, turned off. 2. New Bargmann (left), Old Bargmann (right), tail lights on. 3. New mounting holes are wider than old. I re-used the existing bottom mounting hole. 4. All LED brake lights 730035

These led replacements are better than expected super bright and high quality not like other cheap knock offs I was skeptical at first because I thought they were a little pricey but after installing them and seeing how well made they are and have driven many miles in the dark and a year later they are still bright as new and still working 728550

This item was chosen as an upgrade to a set of older incandescent Bergman fixtures on a friend ‘s enclosed motorcycle trailer . The LED version was slightly larger but still allowed me to use 2 original mounting holes to fasten them and merely drill the the others in place . Easy - peas , japeneasy . I eventually purchased a load of clearance lamps from e-trailer to finish off the trailer . I’m very pleased with the product choices AND service that I receive from E-Trailer . 724802

One incandescent single bulb tail light on my travel trailer needed replacing. Rather than replacing it with another cheap light, I elected to replace both of them with LED. This was the only LED light I could find that would cover all of the holes from the old lights. It is bright and attractive, half of the diodes could stop working and it would still be bright enough to finish a trip. Pro and con- the lack of room behind the light makes it stick out less, but there is no room for the wires to store behind the light. As my travel trailer has very little room in the wall for wiring, it was a tight fit. I added a screw on each corner to make it more secure pressing against the butyl sealant (not because the existing holes were not sufficient, but because the material on the trailer walls is thin). These lights are so well established that if one needs replacing it should be easy to find a replacement. 699080
