Recessed-Mount Light

Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Video Transcript for Bargman Trailer Lights - Tail Lights - 47-84-008 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number 47-84-008. This is the Bargman LED Recessed Double Tail Light, 84 and 85 Series. The two-light fixture has one red LED tail light and one incandescent reverse light for your trailer or RV. The red LED light is going to function as a combination of brake, tail and turn signal lights. That's going to be this one right here. Then, again, you're going to have the incandescent reverse light. LEDs are a great system to have in place.

They're going to last longer and burn brighter than your incandescent lights. They use less power and they have a quicker activation. The incandescent reverse light is surrounded by Class A Red Reflex reflective lens. That's going to be this portion right here. I already have it hooked up to our external power source. I want to go ahead and show you what it looks like with the overhead lights off and the power on.

You can see here that the tail light is going to send out a nice clear, consistent signal. Then when we hit our brake switch, all the other lights are going to come on, everything is going to illuminate a little bit brighter. It's also going to function as our turn signal. You can see that that reflective material here around the incandescent light allows a lot of light to come through. The tail light is designed to be mounted horizontally. Here at the rear, it's got the pre-wired design, so we'll go over the wire functions real quick.

The white wire is going to be our ground, the black wires are going to be for our stop and turn signals, and then the green one is going to be for our tail lights. It's also going to feature that stylish black housing that goes around the lenses. That's going to create a nice stylish look, especially with those curved corners. This does meet Department of Transportation requirements. It meets FMVSS- and CMVSS-108 requirements for automotive lighting. The dimensions are going to measure 9 and 13/16ths of an inch in length, 6 and 15/16ths of an inch in width and it's going to measure an inch and a quarter in thickness.

The recessed portion is going to give us a measurement of 8 and 7/16ths of an inch in length and 5 1/2 inches in width and the overall depth of that is going to be 1 inch, so that's the size of Hold It you're going to need to get this mounted correctly. That's going to do it for today's review of part number 47-84-008. This is the Bargman LED Recessed Double Tail Light. .

Haven't installed the tail lights yet but they look to be exact replacements to the original equipment on our 1993 motorhome. I did remove one of the lights from the motorhome to check fitment and the wiring is very straight forward so should be an easy upgrade. The only issue is the gasket material behind the original lights is shot and there were not new gaskets that came with the lights. A quick check on the etrailer.com website did not find any replacement gaskets - didn't see any on the Bargman website either. No luck finding gasket material at a hardware store or several auto parts stores so will have to jury-rig something. 268669

Thanks for the followup. Truth be told I just installed the tail lights over the past holiday weekend. Last year was a rush to get things packed up for a move from Minnesota to Colorado and Im just now getting the RV ready for a trip. Installation was easy and the tail lightbrake light/turn signal are definitely brighter than the original ones. The only issue is I think I need to get a different blinker unit as the turn signals act like there is a bulb burned out they blink really fast. Probably because of the lower power usage of the LED lights. As I mentioned in my review there wasnt any gasket material for the lights so I used an old truck tire inner tube to make gaskets to better seal the units to the body of the RV.

This a common issue when installing LED lights, and is known as hyper flashing. It occurs since your LED lights do not have enough draw to activate the circuit. To solve this problem load resistors like part # P230004A-2
Putco LED Light Bulb Load-Resistors - Aluminum - Qty 2
can be installed, they increase the amperage draw on a circuit. You would need one per affected circuit (likely just the blinker circuit in your case), and I have linked a kit 2 for your reference. Additionally, there are a couple of types of load resistors, and the aluminum versions are recommended because they dissipate the heat that builds up from the added resistance.

Upgrade Trailex incandescent fixtures with these LEDs. Much much brighter and takes vibration and moisture in the elements without "burnt out bulbs". A great upgrade. Depending on tow vehicle, switching to LCDs may require additional "load" in the wiring to prevent "burnet out" bulb warning in tow vehicle. 396913

Thanks for your business and review. You are correct about upgrading from incandescent to LED lights. You can install load resistors, P230004A-2, on the trailer wiring. As recommended by the manufacturer, the load resistors will need to be installed inline with each circuit. These will provide more draw on the system and the vehicle will not activate the bulb out sensor. For your convenience, I have included a link to the product page and a trailer wiring help article.

This light from Bargman is exactly what I was looking for as a direct replacement for my Haulmark enclosed car trailer. I wanted to switch all the lights on the trailer over to LED's and these lights fit the exact dimensions I needed. The lights are built well, illuminate brightly and all the wiring is clearly marked. Very happy with this product and Etrailer !!!! 708427

Bargman 84/85 Series Trailer Light. I installed these on my 2004 Ford F350 Motor home. These tail lights are a perfect match for what I had. ( None LED). On these new lights the back-up lights are not Led. So I installed Led bulbs in them. At first I thought they were not going to work. Hyper-Flashing! This was a easy fix. replaced Flasher with a Led-Flasher. One other small problem ( another easy-fix). Back-up lights water got in. I sealed the lens with clear automotive clear silicone. I`ve used my RV all Summer an I`ve had no problems, they work perfect. My old light were not Led. These are so bright. And now I feel safe knowing others can see me. Thanks etrailer! Great replacement part. 699498

These Bargman LED taillights are exactly what I needed for my '98 Class C Winnebago. They were the same size as the originals, fit perfectly, and improved the visibility of my RV lighting by leaps and bounds. As I tow a little car behind my Class C, better lighting is a real plus for safety. It took less than 30 minutes to swap in these new LED units for my old incandescent ones. Unscrew the units, clip and reconnect the wiring, screw new fixtures in place. That simple! No regrets at all with purchasing these as an upgrade for my RV. 492069

  • Replacement 84 Series Taillights for a Haulmark Car Hauler
Sounds like you have Bargman 84 series double lights like the part # 47-84-008 which is what you referenced. If what you have looks like that style of light it would be the correct replacement. This is a very common style of light seen on trailers and I am very confident it's what you have. The part # 30-84-508 is the light to use if the two section of light are stacked on to of each other. This light differs with the way the wires are ran on the assembly. With this light it's more accessible...

However, the higher draw from the incandescent lights could cause the LEDs to not be as bright as they normally would be. Thank you for your purchase! I may have a solution for you but there is not a gasket available for the Bargman LED Double Tail Light # 47-84-008. We have spoken with Bargman in the past about this and they said that because of the design of the light gaskets are not used because they can actually trap condensation inside the lens that wouldn't have a chance to dry out. If you are concerned about moisture getting inside the assembly I recommend using a gasket maker like the Loctite...

I don't have a set of installation instructions for the # 47-84-008 that I can show you, but I can walk you through the installation. What you will need to do is first remove the current taillights you have on your trailer. Remove any screws from the assembly and pull it out. You can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to verify that the correct voltage is making it to the light assemblies when the taillight functions are applied and if that check out it's most likely the ground which can be easily fixed by running a jumper wire from it to the main ground of the trailer wiring.
