Today we're going to review part number TRFA73Z916DLNZ. This is the TruRyde zinc shackle bolt with the lock nut for double-eye springs. This shackle bolt is a 9/16" diameter, and it is used to mount your double-eye leaf springs in your front hanger or your rear-suspension hanger. The lock nut is included. The shackle bolt and nut is a corrosion-resistant zinc finish. It is a 9/16" diameter, I mentioned, and the length of it, this is for 3" long.
So basically the way you would measure that is if you measure from under the head of the bolt to the very end of the bolt. And you can see there that it's 3". One other little item we need to mention to you is, this is a lock nut. It may look like, just by looking at it, a standard nut that attaches to the bolt, but this is what is called a distorted lock nut. By the distorted they mean that if you look at this side of the lug nut, it is actually oval shaped.
If you look at the bottom, it's actually normal round shape. What they do is they crimp the very top of this, and you can tell that by if you look at the sides you'll see crimp marks right here, and then 180 degrees crimp marks on the other side. So they basically crimp this and squeeze it a little bit to distort the top of the bolt, and that will give it it's locking feature. So when this lock nut is installed onto your shackle bolt, what you want to make sure is that these crimp marks right here that are at the top are facing to the outside. So in other words, make sure the crimp marks are facing to the outside.
And you'll start it, and it will start about one thread. It won't start a whole lot. It will seem like the threads are cross threaded or something. but just go ahead and start that way. Actually, what you'll need to do is once you install your lead spring in your suspension, and then you're going to put the nut on there, just start it like that.
Make sure your suspension is all lined up, everything's ready to go before you tighten this down. Now once it's all ready to go, go ahead and tighten this down, and as you tighten this down, it will lock onto this bolt when it gets to this distorted part. So that is very critical. If you try to do it with the crimp marks facing inwards, it just won't start because it's distorted and the threads will not start. So a little tip there is to just make sure those crimp marks, that you can see right here, are facing out. It'll start maybe one thread, not a whole lot, and then you'll be ready to install the shackle bolt. Hope that helps you, and that should do it for review on part number TRFA73Z917DLNZ.

9/16" Diameter spring-retainer bolt is used to mount double-eye spring in front or rear suspension hanger. Locknut included.Ideally, the shoulder of the bolts should be long enough to extend all the way through the spring and shackle so that the threads are not subject to load or moving parts. The treads are the weakest portion of any bolt and should only be exposed to tension, not sheer loads. This being trailer hardware, I guess that design factor is not a high priority. Just seems like it could be done right with just a smidge more effort or consideration. That said, the original bolts I removed had only a slightly longer shoulder and one-half the shackle was riding on threads and it held up for years, although it was worn considerably more in the threads.
All good except one of the bolts was supplied with a nut that was too large, sourcing one locally with the proper thread was not possible, ended up purchasing a complete set of shackle bolts to get the job done. I did not make contact to have the issue resolved so I could complete the work but I am confident that the issue would have been resolved if I had asked for a replacement or refund
Bought these for a Big Tex 35SA 3500lb trailer. Arrived in 3 days and was a perfect fit, thank you.
I have not been able to use parts as UPS lost one entire shipment, damaged another shipment and etrailer left some parts out of the replacement shipment. I want to replace all the items on my trailer together in one day.
Anyways, your company has been good about fixing the issues.
I hope UPS pays for the damage and lost shipments.
Wth rusted out leaf springs on my trailer but with zero experience replacing them, I contacted etrailer and Shawn was very helpful in selecting the right parts and taking me through the process. She was patient in terms of helping me take the right measurements and suggesting the bolts and pieces I needed to do the job right.
Everything came well packaged and complete two days later. An hour after that the springs were in my trailer and now has a boat sitting on it.
Thanks!
What can I say they are bolts they are still bolted in!
Shackle bolts fit perfectly
Good quality delivered quick
First time I've purchased from etrailer. Will again if the need arises.
Seems to be really good. The part was back ordered and took an extra month to get here. But etrailer was up front with communication and tried to find a similar comparison.
I’ve got it now and happy.
Fast shipping and priced right.
Just as expected.
Great product at great prices!
Good product.
I never saw locknuts like the ones that came with the bolts. They are only slightly dented on the exterior/last thread of the nut. Looks home made..lol . Bottom line if the bolt is just big enough to fit the lock nut most likely will not fair well. I punched the bolt threads as a assurance.
I am completely satisfied with service and the product that I purchased from etrailer.com. The measurements and specifications on the web site were complete and accurate. Shipping was prompt and the parts were packed more carefully than anything that I have purchased online. Installation of my replacement leaf springs went seamlessly which I really appreciated as I had to leave my broken trailer at my hunt camp and had limited tools to do the repair.
I can't recommend etrailer.com highly enough. They are now my first choice in trailer parts.
These shackle bolts came with the lock nuts for less than other parts houses want for just the bolt.
Great product and excellent customer se rvice.
Fit perfectly
The replacement trailer spring set was out of stock but Michelle watched for it with care and kept me informed. She let me know when it came in, shipped it quickly and made sure I had all the nuts and bolts needed to replace my broken springs. Have ordered from etrailer in the past and the quality and price can't be beat.
If you look closely, the bolt head is serrated; this area is thicker than the smooth diameter of the bolt, so you will have to hammer it into place. My trailer is older, so I had to take a round file to smooth out the eyeholes and then hammer in the bolt about a 1/4 inch so it sat flush. The plus is the serrations grab the eyehole of the steel so when you tighten the nut, the bolt won't spin.
After suffering a major incident on the highway where 3 of the 4 tires were destroyed along with the rims and some suspension parts, I needed parts fast and correct for my trailer. These wheels, along with the other suspension parts, where inexpensive, well built, accurately described, delivered quickly, and exactly what I needed to get my trailer back up and in operating condition again.
These parts were for a 1977 Citation Travel trailer frame that someone had cut the springs off because the electric brake drums were to tight to roll and quite rusty so adjustment was not practical in the field. The springs and assembly pieces arrived promptly. The installation was completed in one hour. All parts fit exactly as they should. The goal is to make a storage trailer unit 8 X 18 feet.
we plan on doing more business our trailer seem to be a hit see attached photo
I purchased these bolts and bushings to "tighten up" the suspension on a three rail Pacemaker motorcycle trailer I bought in 1974. Used a large welding clamp to press the bushings into the spring eyes, drilled the original shackle plates from a worn 1/2" hole to 9/16" and everything fit like new. Great service from etrailer.
