Note: The Timbren Axle-Less suspension system may require additional support on your trailer. If your trailer does not have a crossmember above the spot where you want to install the Timbren system, you may need to reinforce the frame. You can accomplish this three ways. First, you can retrofit the trailer with a crossmember. Second, you can build out the trailer frame. Third, you can use standard, 2-inch steel tubing to connect the 2 Timbren suspensions together using the built-in square hole on each unit.

Ground Clearance

Ride on rubber with Timbren's Axle-Less trailer suspension system. This one-of-a-kind suspension consists of two separate units, each containing rugged steel arms and two strong, hollow rubber springs. Overall, the system safely and effectively absorbs road shock, minimizes trailer bounce and rattle - regardless of load size - and helps to protect your trailer's components and cargo. Built-in camber and toe-in keep your trailer tracking straight to minimize tire wear. Integrated hangers attach to your trailer's frame. And 2-inch holes make it easy to reinforce your trailer's frame by adding standard, 2-inch-square steel tubing (if needed).

The Axle-Less independent suspension system replaces your trailer's existing leaf spring suspension and can eliminate the need for an axle. The independent action of the suspension reduces roll when your trailer is cornering and allows you to maximize ground clearance and minimize deck height. Your trailer can have the same side-to-side clearance as your tow vehicle. And the low deck height makes it easy to load cargo from either the rear or the side.

Because you're riding on rubber, your trailer will ride smoothly and comfortably, whether you're navigating rocky terrain or highway asphalt.

Timbren Axle-Less Suspension Parts

Components

  1. The AEON progressive-rate main spring supports the weight of your trailer and cargo and easily absorbs road shock. It is constructed of heavy-duty, hollow rubber.
  2. The rebound spring minimizes trailer bounce, rattle and bottoming out. It keeps the suspension under constant tension and ensures that the main spring compresses and expands in a controlled fashion. And it delivers a smooth, stable ride - regardless of how much cargo is on the trailer.
  3. The trailing arm and integrated hanger attach the suspension to the side and bottom of the trailer frame.
  4. The control arm carries the spindle and the hub. It pivots on strong, long-lasting urethane bushings that never require lubrication.
  5. The EZ lube spindle is simple to grease. If damaged, it can be removed and replaced, saving you both time and money.
  6. The hub is not included with this model.
  7. The built-in square hole accepts standard 2-inch tubing. If there is no crossmember above the suspension, you can easily add support to your trailer's frame by inserting 2-inch steel tubing through the hole on each suspension unit and then bolting the tubing into place.

Timbren Axle-Less Suspension versus Leaf Springs

Leaf Spring Example

The Axle-Less suspension's progressive spring is a definitive upgrade over leaf springs. Although leaf springs deliver a stable ride when supporting a load, a trailer with leaf springs will bounce and rattle when it's empty or supporting a light or off-center load. On the other hand, your trailer can bottom out on bumpy roads if the load is too heavy. The AEON progressive-rate springs of the Axle-Less suspension always deliver the same reliable performance, no matter the load size. As more weight is added to the trailer, the springs compress and become stiffer, offering more support for heavy loads. And because they rebound more slowly than leaf springs, the AEON springs do a better job of absorbing road shock, thereby keeping your trailer from bouncing and rattling when you're carrying a light load. So with this versatile system you will enjoy a smooth ride whether you're towing an empty trailer or a hefty load.

Unlike leaf springs, Timbren's Axle-Less suspension units operate independently of one another. Each spring activates only when needed. This reduces roll and delivers top-notch performance, even when you're hauling off-center loads. When your trailer with leaf springs takes a turn, one side of the suspension compresses and takes on more weight, and the other side becomes looser and bounces. This causes rattle and can make the trailer lean to one side. But when your trailer with the Axle-Less suspension takes a turn, one side compresses and becomes more rigid to absorb the weight, and the other side expands to normal height to help steady the load and minimize bounce and rattle. The load stays better balanced, even if it is off-center.

Timbren Axle-Less Suspension versus Torsion Axles

Torsion Axle Example

Timbren's Axle-Less trailer suspension system is a great alternative to torsion axles. While both systems allow either side of the trailer's suspension to operate independently, only Axle-Less suspensions are actually separate units. Torsion axles still require a bar that spans the bottom of your trailer, whereas Timbren's system can eliminate the need for a thru axle - giving you the same amount of ground clearance from the front of your trailer to the rear. It also allows Axle-Less suspensions to fit any trailer width - unlike torsion axles, which have to be fitted to an exact frame width.

Axle-Less suspensions operate in a smoother, less stressful manner than torsion axles. Torsion axles use a twisting motion, where the bar inside the axle tube rolls against rubber cords or a rubber wall to create compression and resistance. The up-and-down motion of the main spring and the side-to-side motion of the rebound spring in Timbren's Axle-Less suspension work together to provide smooth, consistent compression - with no twisting - that results in a better ride and less stress on the suspension's components.

Installing the Timbren Axle-Less Suspension

Whether you are building a trailer or retrofitting your existing trailer with the Axle-Less system, you must make certain that the trailer's frame is both perfectly square and sturdy enough to support a heavy load without the aid of a thru axle.

Install Option 1

There are three ways to install the Axle-Less suspension. The easiest method, which is recommended if you are replacing axles on your trailer, is to install a piece of 2-inch-square tubing (sold separately - available at most weld shops) through the integrated hole in the Axle-Less suspension. Then all you need to do is bolt the suspension to the side of the trailer's frame with three bolts (not included).

Install Option 2

The second option for installation is to fabricate an inboard extension plate that attaches the trailer's frame to the Axle-Less suspension.

Install Option 3

The third method of installation is to bolt the Axle-Less suspension's hanger to the trailer's frame and to an existing crossmember that is in the area where you want to install the suspension.

With both the second and third options, you must use three bolts to attach the suspension to the side of the frame. And you also have to use two or three bolts to attach the suspension to the bottom of the frame extension, or crossmember. Both the second and third methods of installation will eliminate the need for a thru axle and provide the most clearance.

Measuring Diagram

Timbren's Axle-Less suspension units should be installed directly across from one another. Before mounting the units, measure back from the coupler and mark the frame to make sure that the two distance measurements (A and B) are within 1/8 inch of each other. Then you can drill holes through the frame and attach the hangers with Grade-5, half-inch bolts (not included).

Video Transcript for Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System Test Course

Speaker 1: Now, let's take a look at our conventional Lee Spring suspension versus our Timbren suspension. As you can see, there's a lot less movement. The trailer doesn't bounce up nearly as much, so it's generating a lot less noise. Overall, it's going to offer a much smoother and more controlled ride. Now, let's take a look at our Axle-Less suspension system as we go out through our test course. You can see as we're hitting the different bumps, you're not seeing as much movement as what we're used to with the conventional suspension system.

It recovers very quickly. Now, as we're just doing some maneuvering around our parking lot, you can see there's no trailer roll side to side. With them working independently, it helps keep everything level.

Built very rugged. I am glad this is available because all the 2K axles I found were not wide enough for my application. This setup allowed me to keep expenses down and build the trailer I wanted. 326161

So far great! I used one of the Timbren Axles in a mountain trail camp/SAR trailer I just finished building. I have only had the trailer on roads because all the trails I want to try it on are still under snow...but it is melting fast. I have included a couple of photos. 612696

A little bit pricey, at first. But in the long run they are cheaper. We used to bend or break an axle every 3 or 4 months. But we have had these a couple of years now with no problems. One thing that is nice is on a tandem axle set up you can get a flat and you just have to take the wheel off and run on 3 or 2 wheels without the hubs hitting the ground. 593458

I was amazed at the attention given to me and my order. I was kept up to date untill my order arrived, it also arrived a few days before the expected time. The axle less system looks to be so much easier to install and more functional than the regular spring suspension. If compared by cost and labor to the other spring system, I find that this is considerably less. I have yet to install it, but will send photo of finished product as soon as possible. 178367

I installed these on a small jeep style camping trailer that I built. I plated my frame and also used the suggested two inch square tubing to tie them together. It rides very well, looks like it should be very durable, it's a simple design, simple to install, more economical than other independent systems, has less parts to go bad than other systems, I would highly recommend to any body using a trailer on rough roads! 582196

Timbren Axle-Less Suspension - Spindle Only - Regular Tires - 5200 lbs Item # ASR5200S01 Looks great on empty trailer, idea is good, bad execution. When loaded tires "splay out" severely, excessive tire wear, obviously too much play in system somewhere. 584361

Comments

Excessive camber which causes wear on the portion of the tire tread closest to the trailer can be caused by a few different things. 1 The axle-less suspension system has a 5200 lb per set capacity, so youll want to be sure this amount is not being exceeded. 2 The surface of the trailer that the suspension member is added to needs to be an integral part of the trailer that should have NO give in it whatsoever. Any flexing of the side member there will throw off the camber of the tires. I have seen what you describe occur when the suspension system has been mounted to tubular steel that made up the edge of the trailer frame. In that instance, some angle iron was added to stiffen things up. 3 Its not required, but a piece of 2x3 inch tube steel of the appropriate length can be used as a beam connecting the two sides, utilizing the existing hole in the axle-less suspension member. This will help stiffen things up. 4 The suspension system should have included some shims that can be used where the spindle attaches to the suspension portion of the assembly. Using these shims can decrease the camber, but only if the points mentioned above are taken care of. Ive checked with Timbren regarding the above, and they concur.

Everything came really fast, quicker than we had anticipated and in one piece. The email notifications on shipping were great and accurate as well. The only thing I would point out, if you order AKHD-655-35-EZ-K Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 10" Diameter - 6 on 5-1/2 it is not a set, it just one drum assembly. 473672

Review from a similar Timbren Axle-Less in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

Purchased 2 sets of the Timbren 1200 Axle-less systems for upgrading the suspension on an older 30' ft glider trailer. Single axle with small (13") tires made towing tough due to porpoising, dragging on drive entrances do to poor flotation; also German made and metric, no repair parts. GVW 2000 lbs equated to bouncy ride. Dual sets now allow the trailer to ride over bumps and sharp inclines easily, smoothly, little bounce on country roads; porpoising is history. My glider now rides securely, safely, quietly. Install time 4 1/2 hours (includes head-scratching). Results are outstanding, units are totally solid. Recommend the square tube interconnect, easy and quick - trailer frame was on the light side, so a precautionary fix. Clean look underneath. Ordered 5 wheels w/tires, very nice. Helpful neighbor so impressed he ordered a HD single set for his new DIY snowmobile trailer. Customer satisfaction 100%, from phone order, online support, product information, immediate shipping, install instructions, followup... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! 580744

I have just a little more to add regarding my purchase: Two sets, of the Timbren Axle-less assemblies, 1200 lb, and 5 wheels. I placed the order via phone, and whoever was on-call that day provided great answers and recommendations regarding the units, wheels and tires. At 31 feet, the trailer originally exhibited amplified porpoising on any bumps or dips in the road. Also bouncing and occasional sideways tipping due to the single axle. It made a lot of noise on my mountain community washboards. I speculated that the Timbren units would solve most, if not all of these problems and they have. Installation on my older 31 ft European ie, metric and no longer manufactured glider trailer was a mere 4.5 hours from removal of the old single axle to setting the trailer back down on its new assemblies. Instructions are complete, precise, useful and helpful. Appreciated. Little to comment on as installation was all straight-forward. I would like to describe the maiden voyage to the airport and back, but there is nothing to tell, other than it towed beautifully proper alignment instructions, and all that I viewed from the rear view mirror looked like a magic carpet ride. It rides over washboards and pot holes like a marathon hurdler, the 4-wheel independent suspension is great. Packaging: the shipping boxes all arrived in good condition, but the cardboard component boxes inside them... not so much. Most were ripped and open due to heavy components lightly surrounded with brown packing paper, just token amounts. Parts: all was accounted for minus a pair of spindle axle washers for one set, easily replaced at the local farm and ranch supply. No squawk, just an fyi. I am very pleased with your product and support, and was happy to leave a 5-star review with photos. The upgraded suspension was also a topic this past weekend at the glider port by those who regularly trailer their ships to various soaring events, some as far as a thousand miles away. My compliments to eTrailers, hope you can use my info,

The product got here in great time delivered on time as said. But I had problems with the square hole in two of the suspension brackets -- the had one side of the inside tube that had a large radius that won't fit the square tubing you are going to slide through it. I spent a lot of time trimming the bracket and rounding off the tubing I need to install. I live in a residential neighbor hood and working early in the morning. Fitting the tubing in the hole it gets wedged in and I had to pound it in to get the fit needed. Too noisy and it should fit to start with. If a person knows he is going to use this square hole in assembly then the seller needs to send the brackets that fit properly. I have to build a sub frame for this small trailer because the shelving tubing I am using for the deck is too light of gauge to put the suspension system directly too. And I had to chase the threads on one of the spindles because I couldn't turn the nut with channel locks to adjust the bearing to fit. Hope the rest of the assembly goes easier. Still got lots work to do but too hot in after noon. 209085

This review is limited to eTrailer customer service since I have not yet installed the suspension. The part I ordered was out of stock when my order was placed. An eTrailer representative notified me both by email and by phone informing me of the situation and offering direct shipment from the manufacturer in the event time was an issue. While time was not an issue for me, I was impressed eTrailer took such a proactive approach in dealing with the stock out. Additionally, despite the item being out of stock, i did still receive it in a timely matter (~2 weeks). 235933

Great product.. My company manufactures trailers with our own axle-less suspension, however we have abandoned our own design in favor of the Timbren system. It is far superior and more cost effective to use the Timbren. Also, the Timbren can be adjusted for camber, a nice feature on a trailer. Just be sure to order the correct spindle for your application. Exchanging the spindles with etrailer became a nightmare. I eventually kept the original spindles and bought new ones from Timbren directly. 182264

These units install easily, are well made, and perform great! The trailer doesn't bounce around like you see a lot of trailers do while traveling down a bumpy road. I traveled some unpaved roads with no issues. I am certainly glad I went axleless. I installed with 15" tires. Problem is I didn't go big enough. I intended to install on an existing trailer that I had. Changed my mind and built a new trailer. The new trailer came in heavier than I had planned. 2k pound capacity is now too small. I have to watch what I load the trailer with so I don't over load the suspension. I intend on buying the 3500 pound units when I have the money. 289894

Review from a similar Timbren Axle-Less in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

Used this on a camping trailer behind our Jeep. The suspension handled 1000 miles of washboard gravel roads and mild rocky offroading with ease. We don't drive gently and had the trailer airborne at one point. The brackets that we opted to fabricate for them were straightforward and simple to install. I especially like the ground clearance under the trailer that you gain due to the lack of a solid traditional axle. The ride quality overall was excellent, especially given where we took it. In hindsight we should have gotten the 4" travel version as it may have been able to soak up deep ruts at 40mph a bit better. Only mild complaint is that the powdercoating on the leading edges had already begun to flake off when we received the suspension. I hit it with a can of spray paint, but I would have hoped it would be more durable. Overall, I will definitely be purchasing this axle-less suspension again for my next trailer build. 230177

Comments

Ashley, the 4 version doesnt actually give it more travel. Its the same was the standard or the system as far as suspension travel. What the 4 system does it lift the height of the trailer from the ground, depending on what youre doing with the trailer. For an off road trailer I personally would do the 4raise for added ground clearance, just gotta make sure the trailer doesnt get top heavy. The standard system is good for pretty much all uses and the system is for when you need a really low deck height for a lawn mower or go kart for example. I appreciate your review as I am going to be building a small off road campingbug-out trailer to tow behind my lifted FJ cruiser. I havent decided if I am going to go with the standard height or the 4 lift as I am going to be running the same off road tires toyo RT that I have on my FJ on the trailer and I want the trailer to sit around the same height. Did you add brakes to yours? Im planning on either running electric brakes or if available in am going to run surge brakes.

Michael, My trailer was so light even fully loaded that I didnt see the need for brakes and never missed having them.I stand corrected: We did get the 4 lift, but the non-HD instead of the HD because the specs said that it had a bit more travel. and we didnt need the weight capacity. That being said, Im still happy with how this suspension performs. My trailer is on 31s on a stock Cherokee.

Review from a similar Timbren Axle-Less in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

I think their axle-less design is very clever. The build quality of the suspension part looks good. I have heartburn over the spindle build quality. The spindle is mounted to the suspension and then the trailer wheel mounts on the spindle. The spindles I received are warped from welding. The plate that bolts onto the suspension does not mount flat due to this warping. I called Timbren. The gentleman that helped me was very pleasant. I described the problems and he said he would check his inventory and call me back. He did call me back and said they are all like that. He said get out the grinder and fix what you can and just tighten the bolts super tight, maybe the gap will go away. Really? Wow. The other problems are a LOT of weld spatter where the bolts are supposed to fit and they made a bend in the plate too close to the bolt holes so two bolt heads hit the bend and dont fit flat against the part they are supposed to hold together. Yikes! I am taking the spindles to a machine shop to fix them but I would not have ordered this Timbren stuff had I been warned before hand. So, fair warning. 100490

Your comments regarding the Axle-Less Suspension are greatly appreciated. To address the issues you have pointed out, we have carefully reviewed our assembly. While we did not come across any major issues, we did however discover a few areas where the quality could be improved, specifically in the areas you brought to our attention. The following improvements have been made to improve the manufacturing process: - Robotic welder gun re-programmed so that it stops from getting too close to the areas adjacent to the mounting holes of the outboard arm and control arm. This will minimize weld spatter. - The distortion of the flat plates is due to the high degree of heat generated during welding. We conducted experiments, changing the sequence of welding operations until we were successful in minimizing the distortion. We apologize if our customer service in addressing your concerns was insufficient at the time of your phone call. Timbren is an ISO 9001:2008 company with an excellent reputation for providing customers with quality products that are well-performing and easy to install.

Review from a similar Timbren Axle-Less in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

I live in California and I'm building a custom off-road camping trailer for overlanding/camping, mainly for the Sierra Nevada backroads, but possibly for longer trips in a variety of terrain. I had read about the axle-less suspension from Timbren and found that it's a popular choice for these types of trailers. In my searches, etrailer.com came up frequently. So I posted a few questions on their web site, and got a prompt response with tons of great information and a complete parts list for what I needed. Much appreciated! The order handling and shipping was very prompt, and all my parts were shipped in one shipment which I definitely appreciate since I don't get packages delivered to my door. I received all the packages today. Great customer support, prompt handling, and quality products. I gave 4/5 stars because the packaging could have been a little better. One of the boxes was a little banged up in the corners, but the content was unharmed as far as I can tell. I've also received follow-up emails to ensure that I received everything and that it was in good shape. Overall, I'd highly recommend the company, and I won't hesitate to buy from etrailer again! My trailer build will probably take a few months to complete with all the bells and whistles, but I'll be sure to post pictures from the process. 546087

Pleased with ETRAILER, will order here again. Not as happy with the torsion axle setup. 2 inch square opening for tying both axles together with your own 2" square tubing are not shaped to match 2x2x1/8 tubing. Grinding and welding of tubing required to make it fit. Also found the overslung stub axle left the end of the pivot arm without much ground clearance though the unit was intended and spec'd for atv tire off road use. A pivot arm with mounting pads top and bottom would be better and allow the user to choose high or low clearance use. I found the units were perfectly suited to offroad use once I fabricated new mounting pads and welded them to the bottom of the arms. 263841

After a year of off road use, I couldnt be happier. My trailer rides smooth loaded or unloaded. No of that bunny hopp with leaf springs or rigid mount axles. The small rebound control snubber works perfectly! I modified my components for high clearance but the concept is sound, they work well. Great job Timbren!

Review from a similar Timbren Axle-Less in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

enclosed are pics of trailer and spindle units. I was very happy with the end result, lowering ez loader trailer 8 inches for hovercraft. the spindle units were well made, very strong but had some weld repairs as pictures show.i could not set the needed adjustments till I cleaned up the units with a stone and file. also please improve the packaging . these heavy units need something better than cardboard for shipping. they were dislodged from Styrofoam and partially poked holes thru cardboard. but fortunately no damage there. again im happy with the installation.thank you!!! 506119

Review from a similar Timbren Axle-Less in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

Excellent, helpful customer service sold me this product, and trust me when I say it's worth the price tag. Pulled the old axle and leaf spring off a 60's era Bantam and swapped out for this with a support bar in between. Bumped up tires to 315/75r16 BFG TA/KO's to match my rig and am amazed at how much better this trailer now pulls. Empty it wad bouncing all over the place with the old axle and leaf spring setup. Now I hardly even know it's there. Was very easy to install, took a couple hours but I am happy with how it turned out. A+++ product and customer service! 172019

They are GREAT! I put them on a small offroad trailer that has followed me all over some really rough roads in remote Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. They have performed flawlessly, helped the trailer tow extremely well, and were the single best upgrade I did to that trailer. Very much looking forward to another summer of exploring! Massive upgrade to the stock axle leaf spring combo, and I have had the opportunity to show it off to alot of fellow overlanders. I cant speak high enough of them. I also purchased a set of airbags for my vehicle which unfortunately have not held up terribly well. I have had to field repair one once already, and neither holds air terribly well. Truth be told they seem very underdesigned for the job they perform. From my super secret high tech pocket internet window.

These axles were a perfect retrofit for a vintage tralier rebuild/mod. Service at etrailer was excellent. The parts were easy to fit with a little care. I would recommend this product and this supplier to anyone looking for trailer parts. 256727

Review from a similar Timbren Axle-Less in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

etrailer does not provide sufficient information for a customer to correctly choose wheels / tires for this item, so while the suspension looks great and I'm looking forward to using it, I ended up with the wrong wheels/tires: specifically, this will NOT work with 14" zero offset rims (which is almost all of them). I got an RA on the wheels which guess what I can't use it because the only reason I know they don't work is I mounted them so I've wasted DAYS of my time with no progress on my trailer and STILL do not have a confirmed answer that if I buy X rim it will work with these despite writing to the person who helped me place the order days ago and no answer. This is really not what I expected I'm pretty wildly unhappy at being ignored. 524906

Review from a similar Timbren Axle-Less in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

This suspension system did EXACTLY what I wanted. I replaced the leaf springs, axle/hubs on my small trailer. The new suspension improved the capacity, lowered the bed 4+inches, improved ground clearance and allowed me to rebalance the trailer all WITHOUT having to have any welding done. Everything needs to be measured very exactly and the alignment technique is fairly cumbersome and takes a bit of time. In the end, I have a quiet, steady, strong, low riding trailer. What more could you ask for 517553

Review from a similar Timbren Axle-Less in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

I was looking for a low profile axle system for my motorcycle trailer. The primary requirement was to be able to load my motorcycle by myself which required a low-profile trailer. With the 4" drop provided by Timbren, this setup turned out great. I originally intended on using ramps but after I swapped the leaf spring axle out with the Timbren, I found I was able to ride my motorcycle on/off without the need for the ramps. Originally, I was going to go axle-less but I found when torquing down the assembly to my frame it started to compress the aluminum rail. To take the pressure off the frame I added the 2" bar from axle to axle. Pulls smooth and effortlessly. I've had several people comment on the trailer height with one wanting to buy the trailer from me. This person worked at the local Honda Dealership. He thought it was a great design and I would imagine he's seen a variety of trailers come through his lot. The other option I considered was a torsion axle but I was looking for the lowest profile I could get. Therefore, cost was not a key factor. I also like the soft ride the Timbren system provides. Not sure if the torsion design would have been as smooth over bumpy roads. Regardless, I'm pleased with how this project came out. 352952

Its been a year since Ive installed the new axles on my trailer my comments above still hold true. Im very pleased with the ride quality of the system after a year. The trailer tracks true and has hauled many things other than my motorcycle. Even empty it doesnt hop around like the original stock straight axle did. No regrets on the purchase.

It looks like a wonderful, well built system. The shipment was partial, turns out they forgot the rest. Customer service corrected the matter, still took almost 2 additional weeks to get the rest. The packaging for shipping - The suspension pieces should be packed individually not together. The box was torn in half and falling out, scratched up like it had fallen out of the box during shipping when it arrived. There were no installation / alignment shims or mounting hardware in the box, don't know if they were included and missing or they forgot that as well. I found no information on the paperwork for the inventory expected to be in the box. 424016

Review from a similar Timbren Axle-Less in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

This is my favorite suspension system in all the world! Rides like an absolute dream. Easy to set up and install. Works on any trailer frame size. One thing to know: You don't get the ride height you get with a standard leaf spring suspension. Even with 15-inch wheels, the ride height is pretty low - maybe 10-12 inches of ground clearance to the bottom of the main trailer frame. If you need more ride height, get the lifted version. A few areas of possible improvement? It's difficult to bolt the suspension unit to a crossmember using the middle bolted hole, which uses a tacked-on weld nut. You have zero room for error when drilling the hole through your cross member, and you can't really use the suspension as a template. Hmmm ... also, the hanger plate mounting holes are positioned 1-inch from the bottom of the trailer frame. That makes it very difficult, since I use channel side rails, to use standard 1/2-inch USS or SAE washers on the backside. There isn't room. Just an extra 1/4 of a inch would allow me to use standard washers underneath the nuts on a channel frame. Nitpicking aside, it's amazing. 410020

I mounted these axels on my off road trailer, this trailer has 37" tires (same as my jeep) tracks perfectly on the road at 60 - 70 mph, Last summer I pulled this trailer on the Rubicon trail were while on the rocks the lean angle was so extream my trailer turned over on its side, when I winched my trailer back on its wheels all the weight of the trailer was on one axel. Timbren Axle-Less trailer axels are so well built and strong nothing bent, everything stayed intact. There is no sag in these axels as well. I could not be more pleased with the Timbren axels. 630861

Good application for custom axle set up that would not allow mounting to outer frame. Suspect I will need to make adjustment to camber as these mount to inside of frame with wheels in rather than outside of frame but shims were provided with kit. Also confirmed with mfg., Timbren, that these could be used in that configuration. Parts arrived in good condition in timely fashion. Did received two different type of tires but that was easily resolved with a single email. Good company to work with, competitively priced. 598251

Do you have a question about this Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension?

  • Hubs with 5 on 5 Bolt Pattern that Will Fit a Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System
  • There are Timbren axle-less suspension systems that do not come with hubs so that you could add your own such as # AKIHUB-550-35-EZ-K. But the hubs with 5 on 5 bolt patterns that would also fit a Timbren system only accept up to 15 inch wheels. The other issue is that vehicle wheels are not meant to be used on trailers and often have an offset (mounting surface of wheel not in the dead center of the wheel) whereas most trailers take wheels with a zero offset. With that said the hub listed...

  • Which Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System for On and Off Road Trailer?
  • Great question. The standard 2K system # ASR2KHDS01 is for standard highway driving only. The Heavy-Duty 2K system # ASR2KHDS02 will be compatible with wider tires for more of the combination use you are seeking. The # ASR1THDS01 listed for Off-Road Tires has suspension that is more robust for up to 2,200 lbs and has a longer arm for a smoother ride over a rougher terrain. For your application, I recommend # ASR2KHDS02. It will handle better for your fair bit of highway driving...
