Video Transcript for Review of Redline Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension - Swan-Style Equalizers - AP302

Today we'll be taking a look at the triple-axle trailer equalizer kit for two-inch slipper springs. Our equalizers are going to take out some of that brunt of force whenever we're going down the road and you hit a bump. Typically, one of your axles would be in the air and then the rest of the weight would be coming down fully on the remaining axles. This helps to distribute that weight, so we don't have any one axle getting overloaded. That helps to maintain better longevity with our axles, make sure that we don't overload any components of our system, and it also helps to make our ride more comfortable in our vehicle while we're towing down the road. Our kit comes with the four equalizers. These are a swan-shaped equalizer that measures 10-1/8 inch, and that's going from the center of the shackle bolt hole here at the end to this little fin that comes up on the top.

They have a two-inch inner channel to fit with our two-inch slipper springs, so you have a little bit more than two inches on the inside edge there to allow those springs to fit in place. We'll also have our four, 7/8-inch diameter bolts. Those are going to measure 4-1/2 inches long, and they have the little grease Zerk on the end so those are wet bolts to make sure that we have good lubrication inside there. Keeps everything working smoothly. And then we'll also have our 7/8-inch lock nuts on the end of each one of those bolts.

So that'll keep everything in place in its center. We'll have six, 9/16-inch diameter shackle bolts. These are going to measure 3-1/2 inches long. Those will be mounted onto the end here to match up with our spring. And then we'll also have the 5/16-diameter bolts to mount to our spring keeper. Those measure 3-1/4 inch long.

And then we'll also have our lock nuts to go with those. The distance from our center hole to the back mounting hole there is about 4-5/8 inches, center to center. And the distance from that center hole to the spring keeper is about five inches. Now, if you pick up part number H302, that contains the front, center, and rear hangers. That will make this a complete kit to get everything installed. That H302 is sold separately here at eTrailer.com if you want to pick that up. And this is designed for use on trailers with triple axles that have a 3,500-pound to 8,000-pound capacity. And that's going to do it for our look at the triple-axle trailer equalizer kit for two-inch slipper springs..

  • Dimensions of Equalizer in Triple Axle Slipper Spring Hanger Kit AP302-H302
Yes, trailer suspension equalizers are measured from hole center to hole center. The 10-1/8-inch dimension provided for the swan-shaped equalizers in kit # AP302-H302 is from the two outside holes as shown in the linked image.

  • Recommended Hanger Spacing for Triple-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for 2" Slipper Springs
The proper positioning of leaf spring hangers will be up to the installer. Therefore, in order to get the correct leaf spring hanger positions for the Triple-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for 2" Slipper Springs part # AP302-H302 you'll need to mock up the suspension and then weld the components as you see fit. I cannot provide exact locations for anyone spring and hanger combo unfortunately.

  • What angle do swan shaped equalizers need to be at for installation?
The equalizers in the Triple-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # AP302-H302 do not get installed in any specific angel. As you can see in the attached installation video, you will install the equalizers and springs hand tight until everything is in place. The equalizers will be at the required angel/orientation at this point, and you can go ahead and torque the equalizer bolts down and then torque the springs down.

  • Hanger Spacing with Triple Axle Hanger Kit AP302-H302
I can give you a general estimate but the only way to get it just right is to mock up all the parts to determine the proper locations prior to permanently installing everything. On a triple axle trailer with 2 inch wide slipper springs the distance from the first and second hangers would be approximately 28-1/2 inches. From the second to third hangers it would be approximately 33 inches. And from the third to fourth hangers it would be approximately 28-1/2 inches. For this set up the center...

  • Are Components of Slipper Spring Equalizer Kits AP302 and AP202 the Same
The individual components between the two kits are the same but the quantities are different since the part # AP302 was designed for triple axle trailers and the # AP202 is designed for tandem axle trailers.

  • Tandem Axle Version of Triple-Axle Trailer Equalizer Kit for 2" Slipper Springs AP302
Sounds like you are looking for the # AP202-H202 which is the tandem axle version of the two part number numbers you mentioned.

  • Can Tire Size 235/85-16 be Used with Triple Axle Equalizer Kit # AP302
Yes, since the equalizers of the Triple-Axle Trailer Equalizer Kit # AP302 are longer at 10-1/8 inches and the length of your springs is a bit longer than most you'd easily be able to use the tire size 235/85-16 that you referenced. In this tire size I can recommend the Kenda Karrier # AM10501. This is a load range F tire which has a capacity of 3,960 per tire and a speed rating of 81 mph. It also comes with a great warranty of 5-Year limited warranty with a 1-Year worry-free guarantee.

  • Correct Spacing for Triple-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for 2 Slipper Springs with 10-1/8 Equalizers
We sure can! The spacing you're looking for between the hangers for the Triple-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for 2" Slipper Springs # AP302-H302 is 28-1/2" for the first to second hangers, 33" from the second to third hangers, and then 28-1/2" from the third to the fourth hangers. This would allow you to use a 2" slipper spring like the 5-Leaf for 7K Axle # e74SR. When it comes to exact placement of the hangers on the trailer frame that's something you'll have to play with to get the correct...

  • Raising the Back of a Triple Axle Trailer to Tow it Level with a 2017 Ford F-350
There are a couple of ways to get your trailer level when towed with your new 2017 Ford F-350. One is to adjust the coupler but since you mentioned having to adjust it already in order to get the right amount of space above the bed sides the remaining option is to raise the back end to match the front end. There are a couple of ways to raise the back of a trailer. First, if the axle tubes are 3 inches in diameter and they are currently mounted above the leaf spring stacks (double-eye only)...

  • Converting from Double-Eye Leaf Springs to Slipper Springs on my Triple Axle Trailer
When looking to convert your triple axle double eye spring trailer to slipper springs, I recommend going with the 5-Leaf Slipper Spring, # e74SR, for your 7,000 LB axles. This spring has a 3,500 LB capacity, an axle capacity of 7,000 LBS, and the height of this spring is the same as your current 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring, # e64SR. When it comes to whether there will be a change in the ride height when switching from double eye springs to the slipper springs, this is going to depend on the...

  • How to Determine Correct Replacement Slipper Springs for Triple Axle Trailer With 8,000 lb Axles
I can help you determine exactly what you need to replace the suspension in your triple axle trailer, although we don't have any type of database which has each part for each year, make and model of trailer that would tell us exactly what you have on your trailer, which means you'll need to do a bit of pretty simple measuring. Since you have a triple axle trailer, with three 8,000 lb axles you will need slipper springs for that axle capacity, for which we have two of that capacity. To...
