Video Transcript for Review of Redline Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension - Front Hanger - 28-1

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this 4 1/4 inch tall front hanger for 2-inch-wide slipper springs with a 9/16 bolt hole. Now this front hanger works with trailer suspension systems that have a 2-inch-wide slipper spring. This will provide the attachment point for the leaf spring and basically this hanger's what will suspend the spring from the trailer frame. The height is 4 1/4 inches, which is measured from the top of the hanger to the center of the bolt hole. That's how you get your height of this.

So if we go center to the top of the bolt hole, you can see is 4 1/4 inches. This is designed for trailers with 3500 pound to 9000 pound axles and it is designed to fit 2-inch-wide slipper springs. You can see if we measure the inside there where the slipper spring goes, actually about 2 1/4 inches. So it allows enough room for the slipper spring to fit in there. It is designed to work with a 9/16 diameter bolt, that's the diameter of the hole here, 9/16ths of an inch.

And that bolt we do sell separately on our website. But that should do it for the review on this 4 1/4-inch-tall front hanger for 2-inch-wide slipper springs with the 9/16th diameter bolt hole..

Product is excellent quality with good price. It will serve my application very well with only a slight modification. Only disapoint-ment was that when I called to obtain the thickness dimension, I was advised that he didn't have it available and wouldn't speculate
on it. I ordered the item assuming it was at least 1/4" thick and it is.

  • What Is Thickness Of Front Hanger For 2 Inch Wide Slipper Springs
I contacted the manufacturer of the Front Hanger for 2 inch Wide Slipper Springs, Item # 28-1, and the steel hanger is 1/4 inch thick. It is designed for trailers with 3,500-lb to 9,000-lb axles and works with 9/16 inch diameter bolt that we sell separately. Additional information and video attached.

  • How To Add 1 Inch of Height to a Slipper Spring Suspension on a Single Axle Trailer
Assuming your trailer suspension is in good condition and you have a 3 inch round axle you could use the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit, part # K71-385-00. This kit will move your trailer axle from the bottom of your axle to the top of your axle and give you an additional 3 inches of height, without having to weld new spring seats to your axle. If you do not have a 3 inch round axle, you would need to buy 2 new spring seats, 4 U-bolts, 8 nuts and 2 U-Bolt plates, depending...

  • Recommended Replacement 2" Slipper Spring Equalizer 3-3/4" Tall
I think I have a better option for your trailer with the dimensions that you provided in the Front Hanger for 2" Wide Slipper Springs part # 721584. This hanger is designed for 2" wide slipper springs, has a 9/16" center hole, and measures 3-9/16" from the center of the bolt hole to the top of the hanger where it installs on the frame. This is a bit closer to the dimension you provided but you could also still go with the Front Hanger for 2" Wide Slipper Springs part # 28-1 as well. In...

  • Hanger Kit Recommendation for a Tandem Axle Trailer with Double Eye Springs and 5,200 lb Axles
The hanger kit that I recommend for your trailer is part # APT5. This is the recommended hanger kit for tandem axle trailers with double eye leaf springs and 5,200 lb axles. This kit comes with six 3-1/4 inch tall hangers, shackle bolts, shackle straps and 7-3/4 inch long x 2-7/8 inch tall equalizers. This should give you the clearance you need between your axle and frame. Welding hangers can be tricky. The best way to make sure the hangers are welded parallel is to measure and use a...

For what you listed the best fender solution is the part # CE17720 as it measures 22-1/2 inches long and is 7 inches wide. Since the sidewall of the tire is tapered from the top of the tread this would match the width needs you mentioned as well.

  • How To Determine Correct Trailer Fender Height When Mounting
The recommended clearance needed between the trailer fender and trailer tire is 3-4" from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender. That said, it would be best to mock this up beforehand and see which location works best with your setup. The correct fender will be selected based on the diameter of the wheel. The Single Axle Trailer Fender part # HP79VR for example is designed for 13" - 14" diameter wheels. I have attached a full list of fender options below.

  • Radius of # HP89VR Trailer Fender
The trailer fender you mentioned, part # HP89VR is designed for use with 13 and 14 inch tires. The radius of the fender is 14 inches, or half the total length of 28 inches. Because the fender is not a complete half circle, this does not represent the actual dimension of the radius. Because two of these fenders placed together would not make a complete a circle geometrically speaking, the true radius would be unobtainable and would most likely be slightly less than 14 inches. I have...

  • Solution for Gaining Axle and Tire Clearance on Triple Axle Enclosed Trailer
Typically you want at least 3" of clearance from the axle to the trailer frame. 3" of clearance is also recommended on the top of the tire. If this was made by a reputable trailer manufacturer the hanger size is probably not off, but it is possible. It may be that your suspension is worn out. I would check out the leaf springs to make sure they aren't flat. If you're going to install new hangers you will need to choose based on the spring style and width. If you have double-eye leaf springs...

  • Can a 16 Inch Trailer Wheels be Added to a Trailer with 12 Inch Wheels
There are a few things you will want to look at when changing wheel sizes. First, a 16 inch wheel and tire is going to be taller than a 12 inch. You need to make sure there is room above the existing 12 inch tire and wheel to go to a 16 inch set up. Next, a larger wheel size will often have a wider tire. You need to make sure there is enough clearance between the trailer frame and the back of the existing tire for a larger size. Then, if your wheels now center on the hub using lug nuts,...
