Video Transcript for Review of Dexter Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension - Bushings - D014-077-00

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this Dexter bronze bushing. It's for a quantity of one. Now these bushings are designed for use with your trailer suspension system. Basically, they'll insert into the eye of a leaf spring or an equalizer to ensure proper sizing for your suspension bolts. Now one thing I did wanna mention is in 2018, Dexter has changed the material of these bushings, to an iron graphite bronze material.

Basically, the wear testing determined that this was an acceptable material to use for these bushings and this new material does have elements of iron in them and are a darker metallic color. Basically, these bushings are also oil impregnated, similar to the previous material used and is not considered a steel bushing. And to date, Dexter has not had any incidents of premature wear or anything else regarding these new bushings. Few specs on it, the inner diameter on this bushing is 57/100ths of an inch, outer diameter of 69/100ths of an inch. Total length on this bushing, if we put our ruler on it, is one in three quarter inches and as I mentioned, it is for a quantity of one bronze bushing.

Now we do also sell this in a package of four, if you needed more than one. The package of four is listed on this product page as a related product and it goes by a part number of K71-291. But that should do it for the review on this Dexter bronze bushing for a quantity of one.

Easy to install. Saw in one of etrailers videos that this bronze bushing should replace the nylon bushing in the leaf springs we got. The nylon ones pounded out okay and these bronze bushings were a nice, tight fit back in.

by:

I appreciate your informative response to my questions. The RV leaf spring is exactly what I needed. Thank you and I will continue doing business with you. Thanks to Dan for helping me place this order.

by:

Good fit, easy installation

by:

I give this average rating, because I did get what I ordered, but the nuts for the wet bolts I ordered are extra, i ordered a triple axle upgrade kit which everything was included, so the bolt with out the nuts are useless, on your end someone must think, he’s ordering only bolts maybe check with the customer to make sure they get all they need for a repair.

by:

Had to pay prem.for individual bushings cause out of 4 pack, but needed parts now.

by:

Parts are always great but the outstanding customer service is what keeps me coming back.

by:

What excellent service I received. I received my shipment promptly and one of my items was ordered incorrectly. I wish I had known but was not too bummed. It was probably my mistake. When I called to re-order the rep recommended I go right to the manufacturer for the special part, and gave me the number. etrailer credited my credit card for the incorrect part and because it was not an expensive item did not require me to return it. Thank You!!!

by:

Replaced all the spring bushings on my twin axle trailer with these and the fit was great. Appears to be a quality part.

by:

The bushing fits the spring nicely. I noticed they are made from sintered bronze and will take pressurized oil nicely making them last indefinatley.

by:

The upgrade was well worth the effort. The plastic bushings were shot and they squeaked and screeched as we towed thru campsites. We did a full rebuild with wetbolts, cushioned equalizer, heavy duty shackles, brakes and bearings. A smooth quiet ride and a sense of security resulted from the expenditure and effort. I'm 76 and I crawled under and took my time. Etrailer supplied everything at great prices and I saved a bundle by doing this project myself. Our trailer pulls smooth and quietly and braking is firm and equal on all 4 wheels. Before we leave Colorado bound for Florida this winter I will recoat the roof and caulk all the items whish penetrate the trailer. 2009 and looks like new.

by:

worked as it should

by:

My trailer had the plastic or fiber type bushings and after 12 years they were worn out, however it still pulled fine. After noticing the worn bushings I just needed to get them replaced as I like my equipment ready to go at all times. Your bushings were a simple fix to get me operational again.

All working well. Thx

by:

Parts arrived quickly and as advertised. Customer service was excellent.

by:

Only half of my order has arrived. The important part hasn't even shipped although it was shown in stock on 7/21/23

by:

I use my bumper pull tandem flatbed trailer a lot and have had to replace shackle straps, equalizer and bushings twice with it being less than 10 years old. This last time I took advice from a customer that had doubled the shackle straps and used longer bolts in shackle and spring eye. After a year, there is no visible wear yet so thinking this is an easy way to get more life when rebuilding.

by:

I wanted to have a couple extras for the Dexter Single Axle kit.
I now have them.
Excellent.

I am still very satisfied with all the products you mentioned. Thanks for checking!

by:

I purchased a wet pin bushing kit for my trailer, this bushing was to replace one i cracked putting in. The kit worked well, found some tricks during the process. One being to ream the spring eye to make it round and consistent. Two, I made a driver to push it in and used an air hammer to install. Rest is just tedious work.

by:

It was a very small order, I just needed a replacement bronze bushing to replace one I messed up installing a MorRyde Wet Bolt Shackle Upgrade for the leaf springs on my trailer. However, I got excellent service nonetheless. Always gratifying to receive such good service even when the monetary value is low. Makes me a repeat customer for sure!

by:

E trailer was the best on line discovery I have ever made, quick and easy ordering, I wish I would have found them sooner.

by:

Did what it was suppose to do. It would be informative to have instructions on installed these sleeves. Some may not have any experience in doing so.

by:

The folks at etrailer.com are super great. The package that I received was torn and a few parts had fallen out. etrailer immediately had shipped out the missing parts with no questions asked. Thank again and we will be using you in the future.

by:

This is A very good product we traded campers and our new camper has the up graded shackles from the factory very satisfied with them

by:

I was very pleased with the quality of the APT4 kit I received . I had a small issue due to the kit was short 2 bolts and nuts. Etrailer toke care of the issue promptly by sending the missing parts with out question. I would use etrailer for all my future needs.

by:

So glad we found greasable bushings, bolts and nuts to replace plastic setup on our 5th wheel while traveling. If you have Forest River you need to replace with greasable. Repair shops just do plastic if you don't know better and send you on your way!! Awesome staff and quick shipping Quality parts

  • Replacement Equalizer Wet Bolt and Bronze Bushing For a Suspension Equalizer
A 9/16" diameter bolt like the Wet Equalizer Bolt # 126B2 is very common on many double eye leaf spring suspension systems. While there isn't a standard due to heavier trailers using 3/4" or 1" diameter bolts I do not see any 5/8" equalizer bolts. It may be that the person who told you the 5/8" bolt had measured the inside diameter of the equalizer itself. They will often have either a nylon or Bronze Bushing # D014-077-00 that protects the bolt from seizing to the equalizer.

  • Replacement Bushing Options for Lippert Never Fail Bushings
We do have replacement bushings for your trailer, but unfortunately the Never Fail bushings have been discontinued and are no longer available. I recommend bronze bushings like the # D014-077-00 or for the 4 pack the # K71-291-00. We also have nylon bushings available # 721590. If you're looking for an entire hardware upgrade kit like the old Lippert kit we have those as well. For a single axle trailer you could use the Dexter Heavy Duty Suspension Upgrade Kit # K71-358-00. • Should You Replace Leaf Spring Bushing With Road Armor Shock Absorbing Equalizer Kit
If you want everything to match then you can replace the nylon leaf spring bushings with bronze bushings like what come with the Road Armor Shock Absorbing Equalizer Kit part # LC696740 using the Bronze Bushing part # D014-077-00. These will work great with the Lippert AP Kit part # LC52SV. That said, unless the existing are worn or you just want them to match you don't need to change them out.

  • What Info Is Needed to Pick Out Replacement Brake Assemblies and Leaf Springs
In order to pick out all of the components you mentioned I would need to know more info from you. The brake assemblies would require me to know the axle capacity of the axles on your trailer. The leaf springs would also require that info plus the length of your current springs, the bolts you'd need for them would be part # 126B2 though and the bushings # D014-077-00. I attached links to all of the leaf springs and brake assemblies we carry once you get the mentioned info.

  • Will Dexter Bronze Double Eye Spring Bushing D014-077-00 Fit 9/16-Inch Diameter Wet Bolt
Yes, the Dexter Bronze Double Eye Spring Bushing # D014-077-00 is a direct replacement for Dexter bushings used with 9/16-inch diameter wet bolts like # 126B2. The bushing measures 11/16-inches outside diameter, 9/16-inch inner diameter and its length is 1-3/4-inches. So long as your original bushings match up to these dimensions these Dexter parts should work great for you. For your reference, I linked our main bushing page showing all trailer suspension spring bushings which are offered...

You can pair this with the Lippert AP Kit - Tandem Axle Road Armor Wet Bolts and Shackles # LC52SV. If your current leaf springs have nylon bushings they will need to be swapped with Bronze Bushings # D014-077-00. Be sure to get 8 of these for all 4 of your leaf springs. You will need a 7/16" locknut for this bolt, which is available with the Fastenal Lock Nut - Zinc Plated Steel - 7/16"-20 - Qty 1 # 1137306. The wet bolts on the Momentum were most likely not serviced properly from the dealer/owner of the camper is my guess. • Why Does Dexter Heavy Duty Suspension Upgrade Kit for Single Axle Trailers Only Come with 4 Bushings
Great question, Brian! The bushings that fit on the bolts for the shackle straps tend to wear out a bit faster than the ones that connect your leaf spring directly to a hanger which is why there are only 4 bushings in the Dexter Heavy Duty Suspension Upgrade Kit for Single Axle Trailers # K71-358-00. If you wanted to get 2 additional of the bushings that come in this kit then the part # D014-077-00 is the exact same bushing so you just need to order 2 of them as well.
