Hello, neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at replacement shackle bolts for your trailer suspension. Now these are available in two different diameters. In 9/16ths, as well as half inch. You can also get these with splines or without, and those are gonna help keep this in place.

And you can also get it with or without new nuts as well. When refreshing your trailer maybe replacing your equalizer, sometimes it's really nice to have new hardware because over time, these can corrode pretty bad or your threads can kinda get marred up. Making it tough to get them off, and maybe destroying them in the process. So having new hardware to put on at the same time is really nice, and you know that they're gonna hold in place well. Now these are grade five bolts and they should resist corrosion and rust decently over time.

Now, if you're picking it up and you want some nuts, you're gonna wanna make sure that you get these locking style nuts just so they hold in place once you tighten it down. So if you are replacing your equalizer on your trailer, if you're doing just one side, you're gonna need to pick up five for the equalizer side. And if you want, you can actually replace the outside shackle bolts as well. Totaling seven per side. Now if you have a triple axle, you're actually going to need 12 per side if you wanna replace them all.

You can also go through, see which ones actually need to be replaced and replace as necessary. So here we have our old hardware that we took off, and you can see these threads are pretty well gone. So trying to get this to thread back on and have that lock nut really bite onto it, this doesn't really give me a sense of security that that's gonna hold on. You can also see these blinds have kind of started to flatten out so they've lost their bite as well. So if you're gonna replace your bolts, you're gonna wanna make sure that you have the proper one by measuring it.

So if you have a dial caliper, you can get the diameter. Or just using a tape measure, you can see here it puts us right at half an inch for this. And then as far as the length, you're gonna wanna measure from the bottom of the bolt head. And you'll see right there where it ends which is gonna be three inches for this one. So if your threads are bad, your splines are bad, or the head's grounded off and you have to cut this to get it off or whatever it may be, you're gonna wanna get replacement bolts because it's easy to find other hardware that may work, but it's not gonna be robust enough to hold up to the strength of the bolts that we wanna replace it with to keep it safe. We recently replaced our equalizer here on our trailer, and went through and actually put all new replacement hardware on here. So this should keep it working properly for many years to come. And that was a look at a replacement shackle bolt for your trailer suspension. Thanks for watching..

I really don’t understand why the bolts didn’t come with nuts?

Delivered on time seems good quality installed but not put to use yet, time will tell, this item was replaced by a cheap china made product that did not hold to it's specs, hopefully these will.

Fast delivery and in good shape when it arrived

See what our Experts say about this ABS Fasteners Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

  • Is There A Torque Specification For Spring Eye Bolts?
If you are referring to the torque specification for the spring eye bolt, there is not a torque spec for this bolt. The general rule is to tighten the nut for the bolt until good and tight, but not too tight to where it will bind the spring. If the nut is too tight it will cause the suspension to bind. You can use the bolt # 9163B and lock nut # TRFA916DLNZ for a 2" wide leaf spring like the # e39SR

  • Should Trailer Suspension Shackle Bolts Be Torqued
When installing suspension components on your trailer there is not going to be a torque setting for the hanger bolts because they really only get tightened down to hand-tight. Going more than hand-tight can pinch the hangers closed and prevent the suspension from being able to move, which will eliminate the support a suspension provides. A standard shackle bolt like part # 9163B uses a mechanical lock nut like # TRFA916DLNZ to prevent it from backing off and would need to be tighten until...

  • Replacement Shackles, Bolts, Bushings, and Equalizers for Tandem Axle Trailer
Although we do have 1/2" replacement bolts, there are no kits that include them. However, we can piece everything together. For a 1/2" bolt we have the # ABS74FR and for a 9/16" the # 9163B. Assuming an 11/16" outer diameter you can use the # TRBU11506 for a nylon bushing with a 1/2" inner diameter and # 721590 for 9/16" ID. You will need to make sure your bushings match the outer diameter. You will also need to measure your shackles to get the right shackle length. This measurement...
